Dodge Ram 1500 owners have reported 23 problems related to engine shut off without warning (under the engine and engine cooling category).
The truck stalls when slowing for a stop or idling around a corner. That is a safety issue because the steering and brakes are locked up at that point. Whether it's idling in a traffic jam, coming to a stop, or idling around the corner, you will suddenly have no power but everything else is on. Not the engine and it was so smooth that you don't notice until you can't brake or steer. There are hundreds of people with this year make and model that are having the same problem. I understand there was an investigation but it was closed without resolution. Case number ea05018. This is a growing problem and we the people are spending hundreds of dollars to replace parts that are just part of a trouble shooting issue and most of us still have the problem. And it's the same for all of us. Please relook at this problem. If I were the only one I could understand but I am not. We love our trucks but this is a serious problem. Last night I was in a double turn intersection when it shut off. Thankful I was in the outer lane and hit the median and not another car. If you read on car complaints. They think the repair fixes but it does not and the issue does not happen all the time. It started occasionally but now it's almost daily and multiple times a day. Please please help! this started in 2009 when we bought the truck and has progressively gotten worse. Not sure if previous owner had issue but it may be why it was traded in.

My 2005 Dodge ram srt-10 viper truck engine stalls/shuts down without warning, no codes, no errorlights while driving. . . I have a problem with my truck stalling out when parking or going through slow turns. In the middle of an intersection¿while an emergency vehicle was approaching, it died and I slowly drifted over to an adjacent curve. . The most recent was on 11/06/15, but it has happened at least 5 times over the past 5 months. All lights and the radio remain on and it starts right back up, however my steering and brakes lock up which is a huge safety concern. When the steering wheel is turned my rpms drop dramatically and it sounds like the truck wants to stall. Started surging and stalling so in it went in again, this time they replaced the iac module . . . And then they thought it might be the fuel pump¿so they tested the fuel rail and claim that it was losing 5% of its torque¿but not to be concerned¿then they thought it might be the map sensor¿but no !. . . Again with no indication, no error lights; and no codes¿ ¿ and the dealership mechanics still can not get it to run without shutting off once you step on the accelerator it dies¿ to dealer for checkup. Could not and can not find the problem. And they charged me $967. 00 why can¿t fiat-Chrysler save face when they know a part problem exists and just fix it right without ripping off customers ? the mopar mechanics have had my truck since November 6th, 2015 , (over two months ) and still can not figure out what is wrong with it¿. . ¿they want me to pay more money while they explore different options they claim that the fiat-Chrysler coprporation engineers want them to try¿ ¿really. . Ss you are asking the consumer/customer to fund the education of your mechanics¿fiat-Chrysler really ????? please recall these trucks before some-one or some-family gets killed please. . Please !!.
In September 2015 my truck engine shut off on I-20 w after a hard brake at highway speed while approaching a trailer with a wide load on a bridge overpass. I was the lead vehicle and had the left lane momentarily blocked until I could restart the engine. After shifting to park, it took two attempts to restart the engine. Then, in December 2015 the exact same thing happened in the city after a moderate stop at a red light, again holding up traffic until the engine was restarted. After traveling about one tenth mile the engine quit again as I was approaching a red light. The first instance was a hard break situation to prevent an accident but the second two shutdowns happened with light breaking when approaching a red light. When the engine had to be restarted, it required a couple of attempts before it would engage and then ran rough for a short time before smoothing out. Each instance was while I was driving in a straight line. The first time at highway speed of 70mph and the last two at 30 or 40 city mph. I have not had a problem with this since the last time but I have been extremely careful to lightly apply the brakes when possible. I read on the internet that I am not the only one that has had this problem so that prompted me to file this report. I feel the problem is associated with a engine electronic control of some sort or other. The engine is the veriable 5. 7l hemi. My wife has been so upset with this happening, she refuses to ride in my truck anymore. I have not reported this problem, mostly because I have been in the market for a new truck. But, I don't want to trade until I find out if this problem is subject to a recall. This all happened after I had my truck serviced for the air bag recall.

I was on my way home from picking up my paycheck driving on the highway in the fast lane doing around 70 mph when all of a sudden my truck shut down with no warning and then restarted. I immediately got off of the highway and took back roads. About 1. 5 miles from my home at a red light the truck once again shut down completely, no engine, no electric, nothing, it was completely dead on a fairly busy road. I had to have the truck towed home and have not been able to get it started at all. I went online to see what might be the cause and have found many related cases to what I am dealing with.

Truck has had multiple incidents of stalling and shutting off with no advance warning or notice. I come to a stop or turn and the engine shuts off. Power steering is lost and even though it starts right back up when put on neutral it has started to worry me to the point where I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle for fear this may happen on the highway. I've had throttle work done and wires replaced but it continues to do the same thing and no codes appear as to what may be causing this problem. The dealer also cannot tell me the reason why this is happening.

While driving my trucks dash will go blank, the vehicle shuts off and then resets. The last time this occured, when the vehicle reset the throttle came back on wide open and almost caused a loss of control. I reacted by manualy shutting down the vehicle and coming to a rest on the shoulder of the road. Once I restarted the vehile all was ok. I was only a mile form the Dodge dealer and returned it to them for a diagnosis. Again, nothing found. This has happened several times (dash resetting while driving approximately 10 times in the last 2 months) but only once has it came back on full throttle. I have been to the dealership three times for the dash resetting just to have them tell me they cannot duplicate the incident. This is a valid safety issue and needs to be addressed. After reviewing the Dodge ram forums, I notice several people with the same issue.

As I was rounding a curve and approaching train tracks,truck lost power. The engine shut off and I had no power steering. I was able to turn the wheel enough to stay on the road and coast over the train tracks. Since then my headlights sometimes flicker on and off at night while driving. Took truck to dealer and was informed it was the tipm and would cost over $900. I don't have the money so I am forced to drive it as is.
The vehicle will shutdown without notice, the engine will shut off and will not restart. The electronic dash will go black which shows what gear the vehicle is in. So shifting to neutral to restart the vehicle can be difficult since no indication is given of what gear. All power to the steering and brakes are no longer available. The vehicles computer does some sort of reset after several seconds but any attempts to restart the vehicle fail till the reset is complete. Taken to the dealer several times and also notified Chrysler which there attempted resolutions were only guess and does not resolve the shutdowns. Chrysler and service tech's have stated they have not heard of the issue yet another customer in for service same time as myself with a Jeep complained of the same issue that I had seen with my ram. While driving in 30 below 0 fahrenheit weather the engine shut off while the truck was in motion at 55 mph. There was no power and once I stopped the vehicle I was able to restart it. This has happened several times and now the truck is refusing to start or even power on. The key fob will not start (manually or by the button), unlock, lock or activate the panic system.

While driving my truck just shut off. No warning lights or anything. Lost all power to steering and was lucky to get stopped with out getting hurt. It started right up like normal. Few days later it did it again. Just plain scary.
When I was pulling into a parking place the truck stalled. Lost power to the engine. This happened again a couple weeks later as I was sitting at a red light. And today it did it more than it ever has. Three red lights in a row the engine shut off.

Over the last few days the vehicle idle has been extremely erratic. Today pulling up to a stop sign at a slight curve, the vehicle/engine just shut off. I was able to restart it but it was a very dangerous situation as my power brakes and power steering both shut off unexpectedly and could have caused a major accident if there had been other cars coming.

Engine shuts off while driving and stops in the middle of the highway. This happens several times per day. To start the engine back up, I have to come to a complete stop, cut the ignition switch completely off, wait 1-5 minutes, cut the ignition switch completely back on and if the gas meter gauge comes on, then the engine will start up again. 2005 Dodge ram frequently stalls at slower speeds and rpm's. The engine shuts off without warning often after letting off the gas pedal at lower rpms. It has happened at speeds of 20 mph and lower, while taking turns, approaching stop signs and at the crest of hills when I let off the gas. Very dangerous and resulted in running off the road into a ditch in one case. The dealer was not helpful on both occasions when they kept the truck for repair purposes. In both cases they said they could not do anything since the computer did not register a specific failure. I told them that it was related to the low rpm's and that it was not a "sensor" issue. They refused to investigate further as they felt this would be chasing the problem "blind".
I lease a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with the 5. 7l hemi. My vehicle has roughly 17,800 miles on it. I am having stalling problems with it. In early November I went outside to turn my truck on to warm it up. I moved it forward about 5 feet and put it in park. When I did this, the engine shut off on it's own. I took me about three minutes to restart the vehicle. Once it restarted, it ran fine and showed no other symptoms of a problem. On December 3, 2006, I was driving home and exiting from the freeway. When I reached the red light, I stopped and the truck stalled out. I restarted it and it ran for about five seconds and stalled again. I put the car into neutral and started it and kept my foot on the gas to keep it running. At the next light it died again and continued to do it everytime I stopped. I took it into the dealership on December 5, 2006. They looked at it and said that they could not find anything wrong with it. The computer did not show any codes and they could not duplicate the problem. It only happens periodically and it did run okay as I drove it to the dealership. On December 6, 2006 I was driving the vehicle and it stalled again at a stop. I am scheduled to take it into the dealership again on December 12 to have them "flash the pcm". The dealer has informed me that their special tech has seen this problem on a few other vehicles and does not quite know how to fix the problem. I have done some research and found that the NHTSA is conducting an investigation for this problem in Dodge rams and Dodge durangos. I have two small children and do not feel safe to drive them in this vehicle. My wife and I make conscious decisions regarding our childrens safety. Placing them into a vehicle that stalls at will is not Smart. If you have any guidance or information that would assist in this matter, it would be greatly appreciated.
While pulling out of a parking lot to proceed on a main road the vehicle died when I attempted to pull out and cross multiple lanes of on coming traffic. I pushed the accelerator and the truck briefly accelerated and then just died. I was able to put it in neutral and restart the engine. I purchased this vehicle with approximately 6500 miles on it and now I have 204000 . This is the 4th occasion it has stalled while at low speed for no reason. The latest occasion just occurred on08/11/15 while I was going threw a round about. I entered the round about turning slightly to the right ,half way around coming out of the turn as it was straightening the truck just shut down. In all the occurrences I have been traveling at lower speeds 30 mph or less. 2 almost causing a crash with another vehicle. On the last occurrence I was able to restart the truck while coasting in neutral ,even though the side of the dash that the gear range is burnt out so you cant actually see what gear you are in. All the times it has stalled it has been during summer months hot outside and no precipitation. At times the truck will hit a low rpm while at an idle but will recover. The vehicle has gone years in between stalls first 2 when the truck had less than a 80k, and the last 2 stall outs about a year apart. No codes stored in the computer. Totally random events.
While stopped in a turn lane, the engine shut down for no apparent reason. This occurring three days after serviced by the dealer for the second time for the same problem. Have since spoken to the dealer again and have been told that Chrysler is looking into the problem. So far, this a problem that has only manifested itself in town at low speeds. I am very concerned that it may occur on the freeway, which will leave me with no power steering or power brakes.
I have an 04 Dodge Ram 1500 hemi,while driving the truck at any given time truck just shuts down completely. I have taken it back to the dealer several times and nothing was done to solve the problem. Now last week I was driving up the street the truck shut off one more time causing me to hit a guide rail. I feel the truck is very unsafe to drive and personally dont want it anymore.
The vehicle shut down, losing power to steering, brakes, and the consumer was left in traffic. Vehicle was serviced, and the dealer stated there was no solution for the problem they knew that existed.
