Dodge Ram 1500 owners have reported 90 problems related to wiper (under the visibility category).
Turn signals work sporadically. This is a daily issue. Signal left and the right signal comes on. Signal right and maybe the left turn signal comes on, or maybe not at all. Sometimes turn signals randomly switch back and forth between left and right on their own. Many times turn signals don't work at all. Once the wipers did not work. Hazard lights sometimes do not work. I have had the multi-function switch replaced twice under warranty and twice again since. Still have the issue. I believe this is a safety concern as the turn signals are telegraphing the wrong information to other drivers. Also possibly related the oil pressure gauge in my instrument panel will not work 3-4 times a year. Next time I start the truck it works fine. All this happens when the vehicle is in motion, and when stationary, forwards, backwards, straight, or turning.

Intermittent wipers do not work or work erratically when raining.
In driving rain, and on a major highway, the windshield wipers suddenly stopped working. I had to repeatedly turn them on in order to clear the rain from the windshield. There was a recall for this very defect and for this year vehicle. I called Chrysler, but its customer service person, dennis, refused to honor the recall, claiming the VIN wasn't included. He also, magnanimously, offered to "reimburse" for the expense "if the recall is expanded. " unacceptable response and obvious, blatant lack of concern for safety, and especially for this vehicle which it knows has this very defect.

Totally integrated power module (tipm) has been dangerous. All four windows went down while truck was unattended and locked several times. We replaced the expensive tipm and car stopped doing that. A few months later, we found out that just one electrical item can cause the entire tipm burn out that affects almost everything in the car. For us it was the backup camera that had a short. It caused air bags, seat belt safety, windshield wipers, defrost/fan, backup camera, locks not to work. Dealership had to replace tipm again. We also believe the tipm may have had something to do with our transmission locking into gear.

The heater/ac control module went out on the vehicle. I brought it in to my mechanic on 9/24/15 he checked with the dealer they said the part is on back order and there are 59 back orders of this part in front of mine. They said it would be in on 11/9/15. On 11/9/15 my mechanic inquired and found the part delayed now until 12/2/15. This is a crucial element as I do not have defrost capabilities and the automatic lights do not come on. In rainy weather and now as we are hitting winter this is a safety hazard. For t here to be 59 of these parts on backorder tells me there is an issue with this part. The 2009 Dodge ram has had quite a few serious recalls. I wanted this to be out there so NHTSA knows the customer service Dodge isnt providing their customers or their lack of regard for this safety issue.

After owning a Dodge 1500 2006 mega cab for 4 years had to replace the multi function switch it stopped working had no wipers high beams or signals. 5 years later have the same thing happen seems like an on going problem with these switches. When the don't work make it a safety issue due to no wipers, signals, or high beams. . .
Last spring, April 2015, I noticed that my defroster was not operating properly. The air blows out of the a. C. Vents, but not the top dashboard vents. I went online to see: 1. How widespread the problem was (very common in older vehicles; I bought my truck new in 2004 from a dealer that is now out of business) 2. What the reaction from Dodge was ( $1. 500. 00 to repair, even though they must do an airbag recall repair in the same area) 3. How expensive it would be to have a professional repair job done ( est. $1,200. 00 - $1,500. 00) 4. How expensive/difficult it would be to attempt to repair myself (uniformly inexpensive parts are available in metal for around $50. 00, not the cheap Dodge plastic) ( do - it - yourself instructions are complex, counter-intuitive, time consuming. . . 8 hours or more, and require special tools as well as physical dexterity) I am stuck having to find $1,500. 00 for a repair, or drive in the fog this winter with no defrost. All because of a $1. 500. 00 repair bill for a $50. 00 part.

On 3/30/15 my ram truck exhibited the condition described in the k17 (reprogram hvac control head and inspect/replace actuators) recall. This recall was created to eliminate the possible malfunction of the hvac system to properly defrost/defog the windshield. It involves updating software and replacing mode door actuators. The plastic actuator gears can easily be broken when the control head sends the wrong signals to open and close the mode doors. At the moment, my defroster/heater is not working and when I first start the vehicle, there is a series of knocking sounds for several minutes as the malfunctioning system goes through its progressions. I took it in to my local Dodge dealer (gurnee) hoping that the recall would eliminate the condition. The mechanic replaced the actuators but could not get the system working properly. He said the control head is not working properly but the recall only covers the software update and not the replacement. From my research I have noticed that other ram owners have encountered this potentially dangerous condition. If it was just a matter of the control head wearing out and not working, I would be okay with replacing it at my own expense. In my opinion though, it is not a case of ¿¿wear and tear¿� but instead I believe it is a defective component. The faulty control head causes the breakage of the actuators and mode doors. People who encounter this problem in the winter are at risk of an accident due to the inability to clear their windshield. Drivers may even need to get their vehicles towed. I believe that Dodge should be responsible for repairing the system to its normal capabilities. That is what a recall is designed to do. This is simply a case of a previously recalled vehicle remedy not working as designed. I called Dodge customer support on 4/10 and talked to a rep that said the repairs would be my responsibility.
Defrost won't work. Heat works on floor and vents. I understand from on line forums that this is an on going problem with these trucks. I feel this is a safety issue and this need recall. Someone is going to get hurt or killed some day because of this.
I was driving down the 131 south about 9 o'clock going about 70 mph and the hood somehow opened and flew back on my windshield and smashed it. Hit the brakes and veered off the road. Scared the crap out of me took about 20 minutes to bring the hood back down to strap it. The hindges snapped on one side and ripped and bent corners of the hood. This truck has 123k on it with no rust on the hood or mechanisms. If this will not be taken care of free of charge I will not be a happy camper. . I work on cars I know how to lube hood latches I also know how to close hoods. My VIN doesn't pull up a recall but this happened as a manufacturers error and I hope this will be professionally taken care of free of charge . Before I bought this truck I had checked for recalls. If this were to have popped up on my VIN this would have never happened. I'm just glad I could get it off the road safely.

My 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 makes a loud popping sound when the heat comes on or off and the windows do not defrost making for little to no visibility.
Driving on the highway in washington state during a snowy day and the defrost started blowing cold air. Dealer seems to think it is a broken blend door. As I have researched it on the web it is a very common problem and very expensive to fix but since someone hasn't deemed it a safety issue there is no recall. I on the other hand see foggy frozen windshield and windows as a safety issue.

Started out with loud knocking noise in dash even when vehicle was shut off, then lost defrosters and dash vents a couple days later, problem has now been repaired by dealer under a 2010 recall . I took the vehicle in back in 2010 and this had been checked back then. I've read on carcomplaints. Com where people had this same problem and were charged anywhere from $259-$1080. 00!.
Upon starting vehicle I heard some type of gear grinding/knocking, sometimes it happens when I turn the key off too. Along with this I noticed I had no heating control which kept me from DE fogging my wind shield or having heat in general. Could be a big issue if the windows were iced over. Has happened randomly over the last several weeks and I have finally disconnected the blend door actuator located behind the glove compartment. Will contact dealership.

The defrost on my 2010 Ram 1500 p/u is covered under recall k-17 that reprograms the hvac software and tests that all the actuators which direct heat and airflow are working. I contacted Dodge recall and confirmed the recall # and applicability to my truck. I was told by the recall specialist that the truck had the completed recall but that it could be completed twice under the recall. I am the second owner of the truck. I was told I had to take the truck to the deal where the recall was accomplished. Chyrsler could not tell me which dealer di the recall, I contacted several dealerships trying to get the hvac actuator for the defrost scheduled for repair. I cited that w/o defrost driving is dangerous and as fall is coming I would like to schedule an appointment. I received estimates between 1 /12 hrs labor to 7 hrs. I am concerned that chyrsler recall specialist provide false information and cannot get a dalership to complete recall repairs. I also have a rear pinion nut recall and received the same feedback to call a dealership and schedule an appointment and I am pushed out 2-3 weeks without a commitment the repair will be no charge. This complaint is to highlight the poor customer service and recall resolution car customers endure, and the decisions to park the vehicle or repair it, and fight for reimbursement. The auto companies are not required or do not resolve recalls to the satisfaction of the customer the vehicle owner. Please help me understand what my rights are and what I can demand from Chrysler or its dealerships.
The lighting system (headlights) on my 2014 ram truck are dangerous to use at night. They are very dim and produce sub-standard lighting for safe driving. I am forced to use high beams during night driving. This is notably not safe for oncoming drivers, but it is the only option I have. After a quick internet search, this is a known problem with many Chrysler, ram and Jeep products.

The heating and air conditions system would not operate. Windows fogged up and defroster would not operate at all. Lost complete visibility almost immediately. Had to pull over and manually remove fog from inside windows. Had to do this numerous times until arrived at home. In shop now for repairs unknown at this time what caused failure. Suspect control head failure.

Driving down the interstate . . It started to rain big down pour I put the wipers on and went right to high speed and they just stopped . . I had to pull to the side of the interstate and it was a fuse that was blown got a new fuse and the next time that it started to rain it was on regular speed when the rain started going harder turned it up to high again and it blew the fuse again . . I had to take my truck in for a different recall so I explained to the what was going on with my wipers and they told me that it was an issue with the motor of the wipers and that it would cost me 515. 00 . . I said wait a min why would this cost me seems to me this is a safety and internal issue of my vehicle and maybe other vehicles need to be looked at . . This could have been a deadly situation for all involved . . But they don't seem to concerned about the situation and its either I pay the 515. 00 to get it fixed or it doesn't get fixed . And also it did not come up on my messages that anything was wrong with my wiper motor which is part of the electronics system of my truck .

When I purchased my Dodge truck in 2012 the car lot where I bought it had used some kind of glue and tape on the dash it had every small crack. About 3 months later while driving down the road piece of dash fell out under my feet. Small pieces fell out several more times then bigger pieces started coming lose. I had to pull over and remove most of the dash in pieces. Now windshield is cracked my mechanic say its because of the dash being busted up like it is, that caused my windshield to crack.

Heater stopped working , the bend doors are broken , no heat or defrost .
The tipm is going out. Causing all sorts of electrical issues. Heater fan stopped working, windshield wipers come and go, esp comes and goes, tow/haul comes and goes, rear window power comes and goes, 4x4 cant be turned on from time to time, airbag lights come on at will, esp/bas comes and goes, abs comes and goes, rear sliding window comes and goes, all of this happens mainly below 32 degrees but van happen anytime. But below freezing is extemely dangerous because the windshield ices up on the inside with no heater fan! thermometer stopped working to. Im sure other thing but its to much to just remember off the top of my head. Fuel economy is terrible also 12-13. 5 mpg while the problems occur. Normally is 17. 1 mpg average still that is terrible. At test drive it was getting 20 mpg average.
Blend door actuator failure. Loud knocking noise coming from inside of the dash, the result of stripped gears inside the actuator slipping. Plastic gears became worn and ineffective, causing failure in the blend door actuator. Safety is compromised when defrost can fail at any given time causing the driver to lose line of sight with the road and potentially resulting in an accident, and/or loss of life, limb, or eyesight. Needs recall immediately to correct malfunctions.
I noticed about a month ago that my vehicle would make a popping noise just after starting it, regardless of defrost/heat being on or off. It would make this noise about 20-30 times and then stop. Approximately two weeks after, I noticed that it would also do the same thing 10-15 minutes after starting the vehicle. I observed that while the popping noise is occurring, the hvac fan goes to a minimum setting and sometimes stays there after the popping has subsided. This includes the defrost. Now that cold weather has arrived, I have had instances of the windshield freezing up while the vehicle is in motion and reducing visibility to nothing. It was difficult to even get to the side of the road. After some research, I determined it to be one the hvac door actuators. According to posts on the internet, this appears to be a common problem. 3 of the 5 of these actuators that exist on the vehicle are relatively easy to access, so I obtained one of these parts and replaced one of the three accessible parts (found to have stripped gears). After reassembling, the noise was still present. After, investigation, it appears that the one of the actuators on the back side of the hvac housing has gone bad, also. The dealership has informed me that the only way to replace these is to remove the dashboard. They told me this would cost nearly $600. The dealer also informed me that all of the actuators have been superseded by "high torque" actuators, which means the manufacturer is aware of this problem. Thank you.
