4 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 02/02/2015

I own a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel with a automatic transmission. This occurred on two occasions the first was on Saturday 1/31/2015 and the second on Monday 2/2/2015. I had just pulled out of my shop when the engine suddenly accelerated at extreme high speed, I slammed on the brakes immediately however as one can imagine the response time and/or the capacity of the braking system was limited due to the high torque of the engine. Non-the-less I was fortunate not to have any other vehicle in my vicinity. This same scenario occur two more time on my way home which is about 4 miles from my shop. The check engine light came on at the time of the first occurrence. I let the truck sit for a couple days, however needed to plow out from a large snowstorm. Upon restarting the truck, the check engine light was off and everything was back to normal. Things changed approximately a half hour into plowing when the sudden acceleration occurred once again and this time within inches of ending up in the drainage ditch at the end of my driveway. It occurred two more times as I was completing the plowing. Also, out of the blue it would idle down with no response when I depressed the accelerator, then after a moment or two it would respond. During the idle the voltage meter would drop to just about zero. I did find some references to the apps (accelerator pedal position sensor) on the web, however when I checked in with my local dealer they stated that they had no recall notice on this. After experiencing this, there is no doubt in my mind that this is quite a serious matter and should be looked into. This situation could easily cause injury or death. I have forty years of driving experience and have never encountered anything of this sort before. I will be taking the vehicle to the dealership, however I feel quite strongly that this should be covered under a recall.

6 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 11/18/2014

I was driving my 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 5. 9 diesel truck to work during rush hour morning traffic at approximately 25 mph when the check engine light came on and a few seconds later the truck suddenly accelerated on its own to about 3500rpms. The roads were iced over from a previous snow storm. Due to the sudden acceleration on the ice, the rear tires broke traction and started sliding sideways before I could react to the sudden acceleration. I immediately applied the brakes with no results. Truck continued to slide sideways into the oncoming lane of traffic when as sudden as the acceleration happened, the rpms dropped down to an idle and I was able to get the truck under control. Luckily, there were no other vehicles in the oncoming lane. Dealership has truck now and is telling me the fault code indicates a bad acceleration pedal position sensor. If there would have been any vehicles in the oncoming lane of traffic at the time the truck accelerated on its own, it would have absolutely caused an accident and could have killed someone. I have never felt so panicked when the truck took off on its own. I cannot describe the feeling of helplessness I felt when this happened. If it hasn't happened already, this will certainly, at some point cause a tragic accident with the loss of life if not addressed immediately. I have read several online blogs where this seems to be an issue in other 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 5. 9 diesel trucks. These trucks need to be recalled immediately and parts re-designed to not allow a sudden increase in acceleration.

7 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2014 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 09/05/2014

1. Check engine light came on 4 sept 2014 brought it to dealership they cleared the code and gave me the truck back because the code did not return while it was in their possession. 2. This same issure has occured 4 more times since that date and the problem has not be resolved, each time they did something different, ie replaced a dosing unit, replaced the nox sensor and now as of 15 oct 2014 are preparing to replace the ecm or brains of the truck. The truck has been in the more than in my possession for the same exact problem since 5 sept 2014. 3. Vehicle has vibration between 60 to 80 mph, has been back to the dealership on the day I purchased and also multiple times after that, and problem still has not been corrected by ram. 3 tires have been replaced and now the service manager says "it operates as designed", although the manager also states that he feels the wobble/vibration between those speeds as well. 4. I have begun the lemon law process and have received a claim number but Chrysler has not yet called me back.

8 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 11/03/2013

A few weeks ago my check engine light came on. Advance auto parts said an error code for the turbo charger was present. I have 43900 miles on the engine. Dealer told me it was not critical and I made an appt. Before bringing it back, a new code stated dpf filter full 100%. Brought it to the dealer and was told the dpf needed regeneration and would cost $150+. New trucks give warnings of 25%/50%/100% and "change driving habits". Apparently diesels shouldn't be driven in town w/overdrive. Instead we need to pull heavy loads. The only option: drive on the highway in 4th gear to bring rpms to at least 2500 rpm every so often! plus, the turbo charger apparently was clogged because I don't use the diesel automatic deceleration brake when not pulling a trailer. The dealer had to order some type of additive to clean the turbo charger and they did 3 cleanings with 3 cans of cleaner on a machine to let the engine run. The manager didn't charge me to do the cleaning since they were inter-related and happened together. Otherwise, there would have been another diagnostic charge and cleaning charge that took two hours to do. I asked if Dodge was planning an upgrade to the onboard computer to provide those pre-warnings for the dpf filter. The svc mgr said no. Why not? from all I read, if the dpf filters gets to 100% it can damage the system. To replace the dpf, it and the catalytic converter would need to be replaced at a cost in the $5-6000! so, the only option is to periodically have them check the status using a diagnostic at a cost of $95 but likely, would not show anything until it gets to 100% full. This is ridiculous since they should be able to do a program upgrade to warn about the dpf filter as well as the turbocharger levels of soot. I bought the truck to pull an RV and only pull it every 6 months or so. Why pay $45,000 for a truck if you can't drive it around town.

9 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

While driving on interstate highway in my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel truck the check engine light came on and the engine shut down. It appeared that a fuel line had ruptured. Fuel had sprayed on the engine and fuel was visibly leaking from the engine. The truck was towed to the Dodge dealership where I was told that the number 4 injector tube had broken. The truck was repaired and everything seems to work properly. I discovered that there are multiple instances listed on internet forums related to the number 4 injector tube and clamp holding the fuel line on 2006 Dodge ram trucks with the cummins diesel. The fact that the number 4 injector tube (out of 6 total) is the only injector tube that appears to have this problem and the fact that fuel is sprayed on a hot engine creating a safety issue should warrant further investigation and design review. I contacted Chrysler customer service to inform them of the issue and to see if any repair considerations were available. Chrysler customer service did not offer any repair considerations because they said my truck warranty had expired. Chrysler did not acknowledge this issue as anything other than a repair let alone as a safety issue. Any consideration for review of what I believe to be a safety issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

14 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2008 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 10/08/2009

On my 2008 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel pickup truck sometimes when you accelerate, there is little to no response except black smoke billowing from the exhaust. You have to press the accelerator completely to the floor to get any response, and then it will only do maybe 5-10 mph. Maximum. This happens at random times, and there seems to be no way to predict when it will happen. It happens from a stopped position, as well as accelerating to pass a vehicle at highway speeds. In the case of highway (passing a vehicle) speed, the engine will lose power, but will not completely quit. In either case, you must pull over, turn off the vehicle, and restart it for it to perform normally. This problem first began in late July, 2009. I took the truck to the dealer for repairs on August 14th. 2009. According to the work order (invoice), they replaced a particulate filter, and did a turbo test. The check engine light came back on about 3. 5 miles after I left the dealer, and the truck was billowing heavy black smoke. When I took it back to the dealer for the same repair, I was told they were going to do the same thing. A new filter, and a turbo test. They did not have a filter in stock, so they did not make any repairs, and they told me they did not expect this to repair the problem anyway, as it had no affect the last time they did it. The latest incident occurred on October 8, 2009.

16 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 09/09/2008

Extreme safety hazard - vehicle is dangerous!!!we purchased a 2007 Dodge diesel 6. 7 liter engine megacab truck 14 months ago, and almost immediately the check engine light began showing on the error message board, along with messages about the particulate filter. We have brought the vehicle in for repairs at least 5 times since then with two total replacements of the pollution control system. The last one took over three weeks apparently because the parts were on backorder. We only put 250 miles on the truck since that time, and were driving over a high mountain pass (7000 feet elevation), when catastrophic failure occurred. I was driving down the pass and my foot was on the accelerator when the engine totally cut out. I was going about 50 miles per hour and only had a few seconds to brake hard before the brakes and steering failed to respond. No warning lights or error messages were showing on the dashboard. It was only because we were near a deep gravelly/sandy shoulder area that the truck stopped. We had the truck towed to the nearest Dodge dealer in missoula, mt (litia). Their mechanics say they do not find anything wrong. I have informed them that we will pursue the lemon law buy back from Chrysler on this vehicle. An internet search shows that this is a problem that is happening around the nation. Please expedite this report to inform people of the very dangerous situation with these vehicles and make Chrysler recall them before fatalities add up!!!!!!.

17 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 08/11/2008

My 2007 2500 4x4 diesel 6. 7 has been a headache since the beginning . It has stalled several times the check engine light comes on for a short while then goes off . But the other day I was in a tight situation, when I stepped on the accelerator hard , a car pulled in front of me I immoderately stepped on the brake , and northing was there , it wet all the way down to the floor then after a second or two it started jumping as the anti lock brakes started to work, this was a close one I couldn't of slide my wallet between my truck and the car that pulled out in front of me . This truck also has the worse ride on concrete freeway paving . It bounces in a un stable, most irritating way ,on asphalt freeway it is very smooth, until you hit a bump and it shimmy's in a un safe felling like it could loose control, I am happy with the power of the motor when its got a full load going up hill. With that exception this is the worst over priced truck I've ever owned , ill never buy Dodge again.

18 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2008 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 04/04/2008

My husband and I bought a new 2008 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel a year ago. Within the first 500 miles the check engine light came on. We called the dealer and were told this was normal and not to worry, just drive the truck, stop, turn it off, restart and drive it, until the light goes off. The light turned off the next time we started the truck, so we figured it was ok, maybe we were overreacting. Well a month later it happens again, we called the dealership and were told the same thing, don't worry, just start it, drive, turn it off, and turn it back on. We took the truck in the third time this happened, they told us it was no big deal, that this was "a normal problem" and the emissions sensor just needed a cleaning, which they did. We were told when we picked it up that everything was fine, but two weeks later it happened again, we took it back to the shop and they cleaned the sensor again. Right after we got the truck back, we had absolutely no power, it struggled to get up a small hill, we took it back to the shop, and they held it for four days. When we got it back they told us there was absolutely nothing wrong with it, but the next time this happened bring it right back and they would replace the turbo and the emissions sensor again. We have only owned this truck for a year, and I have called Dodge with my complaint but was told to email the complain, and when I emailed it, I was told to call, which to me seems like a run around. We were told by the mechanic at the dealer this was a ongoing issue but there was nothing he could do about it, except for continuing to clean the sensors or replacing the turbo, which will still not stop the problem.

19 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 11/13/2007

I like others have had my new truck in the dealership more than on the road. I have had my 2007 Ram 2500 6. 7 in the dealer for seven visits to solve problems with the dpf and emission ck engine light codes. The last was on 9/22 and when I picked up on 9/23 I was told two more TSB-technical service bulletins have come out over night and I would have to bring the truck back for the parts ordered for these TSB's. Mt. Clemens Dodge has been very helpful but Dodge can't seem to come up with a solution for the problem. I'm very disappointed in the fact that I've purchased a new vehicle and so many unresolved problems.

20 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 07/15/2007

The contact owned a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500. While driving 45 mph, the check engine light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the particulate filter was causing the failure. The technician cleaned the filter; however, the check engine light illuminated again a few weeks later. He took the vehicle to the dealer a second time for a computer upgrade that would clear all the codes in the vehicle. The engine light illuminated for the third time and the dealer stated that the vehicle was under a recall, in which they repaired the vehicle for free. The engine light illuminated for the fourth time a month later and the vehicle was returned to the dealer. They performed a second computer upgrade and also replaced the turbo. The engine light illuminated for the fifth time and the dealer replaced a valve and upgraded the vehicle again. At that time, the contact began researching the lemon law. The check engine light illuminated for the sixth and seventh time a month later. After the eighth failure, the dealer offered the contact a new vehicle. The contact now owns a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500. Within the first month of driving the vehicle, the check engine light illuminated. He took the vehicle to the dealer and they performed a computer upgrade. Two weeks prior to the upgrade, the check engine light illuminated again. The engine light illuminated for the third time two weeks after the upgrade. The vehicle is currently at the dealer. All the repairs were performed under warranty. The failure mileage was 500 and current mileage was 1,906.

21 Check Engine Light On problem of the 1999 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 09/12/2000

While backing out of the driveway, the vehicle would intermittently stall. This stalling occurred six times. On one occasion, the dealer replaced the ignition coil, and on another occasion, the consumer kept hearing a pinging sound coming from the engine. The transmission was replaced, and the transfer case was still leaking. There had been a myriad of problems with this vehicle. Also, there had been several recalls associated with this vehicle. The consumer claimed that the vehicle was in the shop more than it was in her possession. The vehicle experienced the following: airflow noise/sucked air due to a possible vacuum leak, the passenger mirror vibration due to the bug shields, engine ticking, undershield rusted along with the driveshaft, u-joints, and the bumper, there was rust on the rear box panels, engine ping/noise, the check engine light had come on two times, rear window leakage, transmission did not shift properly/transfer case leaked, hard jumping when in reverse, revvs out more rpm's than normal, engine ping had gotten louder, and there were many times when the engine died.
