1 Ignition problem of the 2004 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 07/19/2008

1. Ignition- ms. Faulkner was transporting me to pick up my vehicle and her vehicle engine shut off just before she came to a stop. She stated that this had occurred on several occasions. The vehicle did not stall the day I drove it but when I stopped at a signal light the engine surged momentarily for approximately 3-4 seconds and then it returned to it?s normal idle. Had I not had the brake pedal engaged the vehicle would have surged forward 2. Transmission ? while driving on the interstate at speed limit and speed control set, upon resuming speed after coasting down a hill, there was a very distinct clunk that came from the transmission/transaxle. This same clunk occurred again at slow speeds when I slowing down for a signal.

5 Ignition problem of the 1999 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 11/24/2005

On thanksgiving day of 2005 I picked up my 74 year old grandmother, who is blind to go see my mom, who lives about an hour away from me. As we were approaching my mother's house, I heard a popping sound from what appeared to be the power steering hose from my 1999 Dodge Chrysler Stratus and the steering wheel locked up. Smoke and fire started coming out from under the hood. I stopped the car and put it in park and shut off the ignition. I froze for a couple of seconds and realized we had to get out from out of the car. I went around to get my grandmother out and the locks went down automatically. I opened her door and told her to get out, hold on to me and run as fast as she could. She asked me what was going on and I told her the car was on fire and could blow up. We started running and screaming for help. People came out of their houses and two men tried to put down the fire but to no avail. After a while, the fire dept and police arrived. The fire dept. Was able to put out the fire but the car's front was completely consumed. The fire inspector told me he had heard of similar stories with this car. I called Chrysler corp in puerto rico and they told me I have to wait for an inspector from Chrysler comes down to puerto rico and inspects the car to see if they are liable or not. Meanwhile, I have to pay for a tow truck to bring the car to wherever it is they will inspect it and also, the lady who took my complaint at Chrysler said if they find there was a defect, I have to wait to see what Chrysler decides to do about it. I have no car, my nerves are shot and my grandmother is a nervous wreck. This is extremely frustrating waiting for Chrysler to contact me to see when they will be able to inspect my car. Please help!!!!.

7 Ignition problem of the 1998 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 08/15/2004

Herbee motors 130 sunrise highway west islip n. Y. 11795 August 15, 2004. Attn. Service manger, the preventative recall work done on my 1998 doge Stratus is unsafe and totally unacceptable. Please see service history for Aug. 12 and Aug. 13, 2004 and refer to your invoice docs27685 dated 8/13/04 VIN 1b3ej46x0wn335688 for recall c45 floor shifter ignition park interlock. I picked up my car Friday evening Aug 13. After parking my car (placing the shift in the park position with the hand brake on) I was unable to remove the key from the ignition. I drove back to herbee motors and saw your manager charlie who assisted me. At first he was unable to remove the key with the car shift in the parked position. Then after numerous attempts he was able to remove the key and advised me to bring the car back on Monday for service. I started my car and shut it off and was able to remove the key with no effort (like normal) but the dash parking light and odometer light were still on. The key would not turn all the way to the parked position but was able to be removed. I saw charlie who verified that the key was easily removed but not going into the locked park position. The problem of key removal appears to be intermittent. After attempts, again he was able to remove the key in the proper position. He thought the hand brake had something to do with the key removal and advised not to use the hand brake. This afternoon after returning from shopping I parked my car on my driveway and thought I had placed the floor shift into the parked position and removed the key easily. I got out of the car but the shift was in the reverse position and my car rolled down my driveway into the street. The car could have killed someone or cause serious property damage very easily.
