Carvana is attempting to sell this vehicle in lehi, utah. After speaking with the Ford dealership that worked on it for an “internal transmission repair” they told me the the vehicle’s engine is bad (full long block replacement is recommended and the dealership told me it’s dangerous) and needs a new engine. The previous owner was told this and then turned around and sold it to carvana. I told carvana this and they did nothing about it and it is still for sale. Please protect anyone looking to purchase this vehicle as it is not safe.

Spark plugs potentially eject from cylinder heads due to bad engineering design using aluminum heads with insufficient amount of threads to hold spark plugs when in motion. Newer vehicles were re-engineered to eliminate this happening. Request recall and repair.

Vehicle was in motion on a city street and the fuel injector dash light appeared momentarily and then disappeared . Shortly afterwards, I began to sense the slight smell of diesel and just as I turned into my homes driveway there was a loud burst from the engine compartment and the truck began to smoke. I stopped and shut off the vehicle immediately and exited as I was going to inspect the situation. There were screams of fire coming from my wife as the trucks engine compartment began to roar with flames. Action was taken to put out the fire but the flames were too strong. 911 was called and the fire department began in route to our location. In my attempts to contain the fire the truck began to attempt to start on its own. After approximately 3 attempts of the truck starting, there was another loud burst and more flames. Afterwards the horn began to alarm for several minutes. With the help of my neighbors between the water hose and fire extinguisher we were able to contain upon the 18 minute arrival time of the fire department. It is unknown at this time to what caused this fire. Please understand my frustrations as I tell you my 2 year old son was strapped in his car seat in a vehicle that was on fire which was only purchased only 6 months ago from a certified Ford dealership. Photos of engine compartment and cab dash area are attached.

Spark plug blow out of 5. 4l engine causing gas fumes in passenger area.
Yesterday I went to start a 2007 Ford E-350 super duty cargo van with a 5. 4l triton engine. One of the spark plugs was immediately ejected which resulted in ruining the plug and coil. I was able to re-insert the plug and tighten it up, but it is also the second time it has happened to me. Previously it also happened on a 1999 E-350 with the same engine and also the same cylinder. I traded the 99 in for the 2007 and in less than a month had the same exact problem.

Started my 2001 Ford E-350. After 10-15 seconds, large pop and engine died. Opened hood and found right rear spark plug had blown out of engine. I'm an engineer and I've been working on engines of all descriptions for 35 years. This is an obvious engineering defect. Ford should replace the parts. We have a fleet of Fords. I now wish it was a fleet of chevy's.
On 03/15/11 spark plug #6 blew out of the head of engine causing a strong smell of gasoline. On 06/01/11 spark plug #3 blew out same odors resulted. Dealer rethreaded hole(s). Metal shavings could now be in the head of the engine causing more damage. Dealer says this is not a permanent repair and may happen again. This is a fire hazard. Gasoline could ignite causing a fire and/or impaired vision. [xxx]. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Have a 2003 Ford E-350 van cng gas conversion. At 97,000 miles a spark plug blew completely out of the cylinder head and broke off the ignition coil that was bolted to the head. The cng gas could have possibly ignited and caused a fire since the fuel was still being sent to that particular cylinder and the spark was still sparking eventhough it was blown out of the hole. I have never heard of this happening before until I researched it after it occurred. This seems to be very common in Ford engines that are 5. 4 liter. The repair is around $2500. To pull the engine and repair the head. This could have been very dangerous if we had continue driving the van. This occurred 9/27/2010.
The contact owned a 2001 Ford e350. The vehicle was parked outside of the contact's residence when he heard an loud explosion. The vehicle had caught fire. The fire department was called. Once the fire was extinguished, the contact discovered that a hole had been burned in the hood of the vehicle, right above the master cylinder. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle remained outside of the contact's home and was not drivable. The failure and current mileage was 150,411.
2000 Ford v8 triton engine spark plug popped out and engine misfire had the coil replaced and had mechanic tap out the spark plug hole and re set the plug and then it happened again on Saturday July 3rd 2010.
We have a 2001 Ford E-350 van with less than 80,000 miles. A spark plug has ejected from the engine, stripping the block. Of course, gasoline spews from the open cylinder, and the spark plug is still sending out a spark. . Read more...
This 350 econoline, 8cyl. , extended body van was purchased new, and I am the original owner. The vehicle has only 120k miles on it since 2002. Beginning several years ago, my mechanic complained of severe frame erosion, having had to reinforce and re-weld several parts back onto the frame, including but not limited to the brackets which support the rear leaf springs. (two ocurrances-- left and right sides). Last week, my employee complained of some rear end swaying at moderate speed cornering. We discovered a cross-tie connection between the side rails at the rear of the vehicle's frame had rotted away, thus causing some unwanted frame movement. If it weren't for a heavy-duty towing package I had purchased with the vehicle in 2002, I believe the left and right sides of the vehicle's under-framing would have twisted and separated from the body years ago ! also beginning a few years ago, was the decay of the vehicle's engine block, as three separately timed spark plugs had literately 'blown' out of the threaded wells of the engine block. My mechanic had to adapt heli-coil kits into re-bored holes in the vehicle's spark plug wells. It's only a matter of time before these kits come loose, and blow -out again. I'm already experiencing a painfully ominous compression loss in one (or more) of the cylinders. Could Ford have purchased some inferior metals, thus producing a line of junk vehicles?.
I have a 1999 chinook class c with a Ford E-350 chassis powered by a triton v-10. Shortly after buying it used we had a spark plug pop out. It was an original plug. We had them changed and took a cross country trip. As we were coming up on memphis TN. Another plug blew out. We were on an interchange in a very dangerous place. We could not get out as there was a freeway on both sides. It took 3 1/2 hours to get us out of harms way. Just last weekend it happened again though I drove off the freeway. I have since read that this could cause a fire as the gas is getting pushed out the plug hole and the plug is out and firing. I have done some research and Ford says the plugs were not torqued to spec which caused it to happen. We had our original plugs when it 1st happened. I also read online where a dealer had a very low mileage v-10 with original plugs and it happened to him. I think these heads are defective and should be replaced. I cannot find aftermarket heads so I would feel safer. It has always happened going down the freeway. The mechanic at the shop where it is says he has a Ford kit to repair the heads. He says it is the only kit for this he has ever seen yet Ford denies there is a real problem. I just feel lucky I have been able to get off the road each time. These engines are in many RV's and larger trucks which are harder to maneuver I. E. More dangerous.
Spark plug blew out of triton v10 engine almost causing a fire. Truck only has 14,000 miles on it. Very costly repair and could have caused a fire or injuries.
