I have had 2 spark plugs blow out of cylinders, once while driving and once while it was idling in the driveway. The spark plugs were torqued in using a torque wrench, but work loose with time. I have to check the tightness of the plugs every six months or they will loosen up and blow out. I have helicoils put in for the threads, but it is $400 each time it happens.
Own 2000 f150 with 4. 6 motor. Right rear spark plug blew completely out on trip from wyoming to vermont. On a Sunday so had to complete the run, fixed it with a spark plug insert and replaced individual coil that was blown apart by the plug, but truck has not run right since. What is being done about this as it seems to be a very common complaint ?.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford F-150. While parked he noticed flames from underneath the hood of the vehicle. The fire department extinguished the flames. The vehicle was completely destroyed. A fire report was available. The cause of the failure has not been determined. A technician from the dealer stated that his complaint would be forwarded to the office of general council and that they will give him a call back. The vehicle was towed to a Ford collision center for inspection. The failure and current mileages were 125000.
2000 Ford f150. Blew no. 3 spark while driving. It blew at partial throttle, 45 mph. Truck has been properly maintained, never had this happen on any other car I ever owned. Come to find out this a common problem on triton v-8 engines. I've owned cars with aluminum heads before so for Ford to claim its a torquing problem and the fault of the owner is disgraceful to all the people that maintain their own cars. Fortunately the fire was only temporary and went out when I stopped the truck and killed the engine, but there obviously had been a fire at some point. This is the same truck that has already been recalled once, still have a burn mark on the master cylinder reservoir from where it almost burst into flames in my driveway one day, thank god I just so happened to have the hood up to replace my coolant when it happened, or the whole truck would have burnt down, I managed to pull the fuse before it did, but for this to happen on top of that is ridiculous.
I own a 2000 Ford F-150, triton 4. 6 liter. July 2007, blown spark plug from cylinder head; cost for repair $636. 00. May 2009, blown spark plug (#3) from cylinder head; cost for repair $606. 00 plus $81. 00 for rental vehicle. I understand Ford will not take responsibility for repairing and or reimbursing a customer for their expenses. Signed, another unhappy Ford owner.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford f150 4x4. The contact stated that her vehicle was parked in front of her house on June 4, 2007. On the morning of June 5, 20007, the vehicle appeared fine until she heard the neighbors screaming. The contact discovered six foot flames rising from underneath the hood. The fire department extinguished the blaze and two fire marshals filed a report. According to the contact, the dealer and manufacturer stated that they will get back to her in ten days via mail. The individual called and informed the contact that the vehicle caught fire while parked in his driveway. The vehicle was destroyed and the source of the fire could not be determined. A police report was filed. Ford stated that they were not responsible since it could not be proven where or how the fire originated. The current and failure mileages were 190,000.
I own a 2000 Ford f150 5. 4 liter, it has blow 2 spark plugs, one at 90,000 miles and now a 140,000 miles it will cost $3000 for a new head I can't afford it so now I will make a $500 monthly payment to a truck loan that doesn't run.
My 2000 Ford F-150 w/ a triton 5. 4 l engine (: ) blew the #3 spark plug. There were no unusual events leading up to the failure. I took the truck to the dealer and they wanted to charge me $3000 for a new head or $1000 for insertion of a helicoil. I know that this is happening on many trucks like mine. Why is Ford not being forced to take responsibility for this failure? it is obvious to me that it is not improper installation of a spark plug, a few too many coincidences for that I think.
The spark plug blew out of the head, repair was very costly. This should not happen. I also have had 3 coil packs go bad on this vehicle.
Passenger side #3 plug blown out two months later #4 blown out. Called Ford and was told that there was not a problem with that head.

2000 Ford lightning 5. 4 spark plug blew out of head.
Spark plug on my Ford svt f150 lightning popped out of the cylinder head while I was driving to work today. Doing 65 mph and had to swerve over into their traffic to get to the shoulder safely. Warranty just expired in June but still have only 21,000 miles on my truck. This is not right because I'm looking at a bill of several thousand dollars to get this fixed.
Driving to work doing 60 mph slowing down to get on a off ramp and I heard a big bang. I look under the hood and my, passenger side second from the front, plug, coil, and boot were ejected from there hole.
While cruising at 65 mph a spark plug blew out of the cylinder into the fuel rail. Luckily no fire was started. This seems to be a common problem in the 5. 4l engine. As even Ford has changed the design of newer 5. 4l engines, but has done nothing for earlier owners. The vehicle has 40,000 miles and I was told that the vehicle had an extended warranty in 11/02. However, Ford now says the warranty was put on by mistake and was cancelled 1/03 - not notifying me, the owner of the truck, about it's cancellation. I have owned Fords for the last 18 years, but this will be my last.
2000 F-150 4. 6l engine. Blown spark plug, which damaged the driver's side head. Ford will not approve of a repair, so either the head or the engine needs to be replaced. From reading various Ford forums and message boards, this is a known problem that Ford should be held accountable for on the 4. 6l and 5. 4l engines.
I had $1375 worth of maintenance done on my 2000 Ford F-150 at mak haik Ford on Aug. 14, 2003, such as transmission & power steering flush, replacing fuel, air & oil filters, new brakes & fixing abs sensor, etc. When I got home straight from the mak haik, the alarm was acting up. Later, I discovered the cruise control was broken. Two days later, while I was in bww on westheimer, my truck combusted into flames (about 30-40 feet high). The truck is a write-off. Mak haik blew up my truck. I want my $1375 back as well as approx. $32,500 for the truck.
Spark plug launched from cylinder #7 (third back passenger side) on my 2000 Ford F-150 lightning with 26,xxx miles.
The consumer turned the vehicle off, and nearly 2 hours later, the horn began "blaring" and then the vehicle caught fire under the hood. Around 2 months before the fire the cruise control stopped working. Never had repaired. . The cruise starting working for about a half hour one day then stopped working again. Then the brake lights went out. One fuse was blown. Replaced 4 fuses and they kept blowing with a flash. On the fifth fuse I started the truck up and it took the fuse without blowing. This was all the day before the fire.
Blew a spark plug out of my 5. 4 liter motor.
Spark plug blew out of head on a Ford lightning (completely stock, never modded). This issue is a known issue with 5. 4l motors, and is a $2000-$3000 repair that typically happens after the manufacturers warranty is expired. Mine happened at 39,000mi.
When the vehicle was turned off, it caught on fire. Jb.
Factory intercooler is leaking at 41000 miles dealer said recall ended sept 2002 . Bought truck used didn't know about recall now will have to pay $1500 to fix the problem Ford knows about.
Spark plug was blown out of head. Dealer claims head is not repairable, requires new head. No warranty from Ford, they claim they have never seen this problem however the Ford service managers at several locations claim it's a ver common problem.
While traveling on the highway without prior warning. The vehicle will shut down and vibrate please fill in additional information dealer is aware of the problem. Ts.
Have a Ford f150 lightning truck. 2 weeks after I bought it cylinder #2 blew the spark plug out of the head. All I did was turn the engine over and it blew. When the dealer replaced the head and plugs they found 3 of the 7 remaining plugs loose. If I didn't have the dealer replace the plugs, it would of happened again. I have all this on an invoice. Dealer would not cover it under warranty. Bill was $2300. 00.
The motor mounts failed. Nlm.
