The contact owns a 2000 Ford f150. On March 8, 2008, after activating the windshield wipers, the wiper motor caught fire. The contact was able to extinguish the fire. The vehicle is currently being diagnosed by the insurance company. There were no warning lights; however, the passenger side windshield wiper stopped working the previous night. The contact thought the failure was due to the snow on the wipers, but after they were cleaned, the wiper failed to operate. The current and failure mileages were 118,000.

New 2006 Ford f150 extended cab, less than 2500 miles, driving in moderate to heavy rain when windshield wipers completely failed. Fortunately the driver, my son, was able to immediately cross 3 lanes of traffic and pull off the road without accident or injury. This is a serious defect / failure that could have resulted in severe injury or death. Wiper motor was replaced at a Ford dealership the next day.

While driving home from new hampshire, suddenly there was a fire in the windshield wiper motor. I had the wipers on at a slow speed as it was misting outside. I put the fire our with snow from the roadside. As we continued home the radio went dead, the battery went to low and the lights started flicking on and off. As a result of the fire the windshield cracked, and continued all the way across from one side to the other. I luckily found an open Ford dealer that gave us a small rental and repaired the truck.
