Failure Date: 12/06/2007

Pickup is a diesel f250, 2002, extended cab. Brakes overheat too easily and rotors become warped. When running down hill and hold brakes for extended period it becomes nearly impossible to maintain control of the vehicle. Pickup is designed to carry loads, and tow trailers, but this occurs with virtually no load. It is apparent that the same brakes are used on lighter weight pickups (I. E. Gasoline engine f250's) and the diesel version should have heavier brakes. I have noted that Ford recognizes the problem in that they have been installing much larger brake rotors on their newer diesel pickups. I have had to purchase aftermarket brakes to increase the cooling ability to minimize this problem. First time brakes were replaced with Ford rotors and same problem occurred almost immediately. Date, number of failures, etc. Listed below are misleading as this is a problem every time I brake. Ford service persons and parts persons just shrug their shoulders at me when I complain!!!.

No accident. 2002 Ford f250 4x4 short bed crew. Brake rotor warping all the time. Not driving through water while hot!.

car   Brake Disc Rotor problem 3
Failure Date: 03/06/2004

When driving at an undetermined speed vehicle vibrated. The consumer took vehicle to the dealership for inspection, and mechanic determined that both front rotors failed. The consumer stated that front rotors were replaced at 38,000 miles, and currently need to be replaced again at 77,000 miles. The rotors would get extremely hot rather in use or not.

Failure Date: 12/27/2003

Warping of front brake rotors. Truck has not pulled anything heavy or carried a heavy load. Pulling to the left, and front end shaking during normal braking. Symptoms increase with braking pressure. Only 25,000 miles on truck. The dealer charged for repairs and would not cover rotor under warranty.

My vehicle has 34000 miles, it's a f250sd 4x4 diesel. When braking the front end shakes. This has been attributed to rotor warp. Depending on the mechanic I have between 70-90% of the brake pads left. The vehicle doesn't normally tow or carry a great deal of weight. I think that there is a problem with the rotors or some mechanical problem that causes rotor warp so quickly.

While applying the brakes at any speed vehicles shook. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle. Consumer took vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the rotors needed to be replaced, and replaced them four times. However, problem recurred.

Vehicle had problems with the brakes. The brake rotors warped every 20,000 miles. It was also discovered that the ball joints were loose when the vehicle was being repaired. Provide further details. Mechanic also found that lower ball joints where loose.

When braking at any speed vehicle vibrated in the steering wheel. As of may 5, 2004 vehicle is being repaired the third time for brake rotors.
