Ford F-350 owners have reported 186 problems related to diesel engine (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Truck has about 65k miles on it. It has had 2 major diesel engine malfunctions that left me stranded on the road. The first time I barely made it off the travel lanes. The second time at least I was able to get fully off the road. Both times we were on the highway. It already has had the fuel pump go out causing major problems and having a new fuel system put in. Now something else internally of the engine has blown up and now it has metal shaving all thru the engine. The first time it took over 2 months to get fixed and this time its been in the shop 8 weeks and the Ford extended warrentee still hasn't approved the repairs. I've read many on line posts saying that these 2011 diesel engines are exploding and Ford won't cover the repairs or make good.

2011 Ford F-350. Consumer writes in regards to diesel engine failure - service bulletin refers to vehicle misfire/ runs rough due to a broken injector hold down clamp. The consumer stated while driving the engine suddenly lost power and stopped. The engine would not restart or idle. The consumer advises the failure should be a recall. .
When the 6. 7 diesel engine goes in to regeneration for the emission system the engine sometimes shudders and shakes violently. The valves rattle and there is a sudden loss of power and truck slows. Seems to be mostly when the truck is in a slight pull up a grade. But, it has done it on flat ground. This condition is very dangerous and wide spread throughout the Ford 6. 7 diesel engines. The dealer stated it was common with these 6. 7 diesel engines and a fix was coming but it has been over 2 years and no fix in site. My truck is a 2016 with only 10,000 miles. Ford knows there is a problem and won't fix it. The truck is at woody anderson Ford in huntsville, alabama in their truck shop. Their truck shop service manager told me of the problem when I reported what the truck was doing. Ford actually has a TSB for for customers who have reported this issue, but they have no desire to correct the programming. It is bad and something needs to be done before someone get hurt.

Bought truck brand new in December 2014. At approx. 5,000 (still during the diesel engine break in period) while driving thru an intersection in traffic the truck and motor started violently shaking/bucking with the motor making a loud knocking noise- the truck then had a total loss of power in which I was unable to safely accelerate. The truck then went to the dealer in which I was told they could find nothing wrong. The truck now been in an out of the shop numerous times because the problem keeps occurring. Ford released a TSB stating that its normal for their trucks to experience "rough running" during the exhaust regen cycle. The experiences that have occurred with my truck have no correlation to the regen cycle and seem to happen at random times. The truck has become dangerous to drive and pull my horses with as the shaking/bucking is so violent and with a loss of power and unable to accelerate its scary to even attempt to drive in traffic.

I have submitted my request for a recall to be issued on all 2008 Ford f350sd for the exhaust temperature sensor failure causing the vehicle to shutdown. Looks as though a recall was issued for 2012 Ford 6. 7l ambulance packages: F-350 engine recall number: 13v535000 recall date: 10/30/2013 problem summary: Ford motor company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 F-350/450/550 ambulance package vehicles manufactured February 22, 2010, through October 19, 2012 and equipped with a 6. 7l diesel engine. Due to an exhaust sensor problem, the vehicles may experience loss of power followed by an engine stall. Consequence: an unexpected engine stall increases the risk of a crash. Additionally, if this were to occur when the ambulance is transporting a patient, there is an increased risk of injury to the patient. Corrective action: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the exhaust gas temperature sensor, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin by the end of November 2013. Owners may contact Ford motor company customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's recall campaign number is 13s10. Sure if a crash can result in the vehicle shutting down on a 6. 7l, it could also occur on a 6. 4l 2008 Ford f350 super duty that is not an ambulance package. A crash is what almost happen when my wife's vehicle shutdown on her due to the sensor going out heading down hill with no power steering. Investigate this and have Ford held accountable. I have emailed Ford on several occassions and this is their latest response: our records indicate that you contacted the Ford crc on 9/30/14, and our customer care representative advised you that we have documented your comments which will be forwarded to the appropriate department for review and consideration. Wow "for review and consideration".

This is the third time that my truck has left me on the side of the road. Ford had a recall of all 2012 ambulance f350 because of this exact situation and is leaving the consumer to worry with it on their own. The actual problem is the egt sensor 13 and 14 in the exhaust system. These sensors continue to fail and all Ford can do is to keep my vehicle for 4-5 days and tell me that they cant find the issue and they replace the sensors (only to fail again in about a month). I can not drive this vehicle anywhere without the thought of failure. There is no way I can take this truck out of my normal around town area as if failure does occur, I am stuck. I am afraid that it is going to die on me in traffic and cause an accident or death of myself or a passenger. I have taken it to 3 different local dealers only to be told that they dont have a clue and know nothing of any other similar instances of this ever happening. (I can show you 50 cases online that have happened to other owners of the same vehicle) I am looking to get this taken care of as soon as possible as I am driving at $65,000 vehicle that I cant trust to drive across the state line. Any recourse that you can offer is very much appreciated as Ford is acting clueless to this ongoing issue. Thank you for your help.

Ford diesel engine began to sputter/miss/backfire/etc-later shown to have 'blown-up' . . . Basis of problem appears to be in the 'crank-area' of the engine. Has to be replaced @ 116,000 miles with a $20,000 pricetag. (note: any diesel should be good for 250,000--300,000 miles). We are 2nd owner(1st owner was a Ford dealer) buying on 5/31/12 47,276 miles on speedo.

The head bolts have a known defect, which Ford filed a class action suit against the engine manufacture novastar for and won. This defect/weakness can cause the bolts to fail/break causing many components to become damaged. This can potentially cause an accident and/or injury to the vehicles occupants. I believe this issue needs to be addressed as a recall because according to my research all of the 6. 0 diesel engines in this year/model are affected.

On 05/31/2013 after driving aprox 50 miles at highway speeds the truck was parked and a small fire started due to leaking oil on the hot exhaust system from a rusted oil pan. The fire was extinguised before it comsumed the entire vehicle. I have contacted Ford motor CO. Customer care and was told that the truck was out of warranty and that the cost to repair 1500. 00 to 2000. 00 would be my responsibility. I am disabled and on social security with a very fixed income and cannot afford the cost of this repair. From looking at all the other posts and living in michigan with winter salt, Ford has recalled many of their vehicles due to rust and corrosion of various componants that could cause a accident or death. Please investigate this major problem with Ford trucks and other vehicles with the 7. 3 liter diesel engine. I have contacted my dealer and they said this is a very common problem. Thank you in advance. The truck is currently parked and undriveable.

Brought my 2011 Ford f350 diesel truck into certified Ford dealer to have oil change came back with a ticking noise, brought the truck back to dealer and they stated that this noise happens to the 6. 7 diesel engines after a oil change. . I have bought my truck to many other places and have had the oil changed and I have never had this happen. . I am expected to have this noise for the rest of my ownership of this truck, if Ford knows of this problem they need to find away to fix it!!.
Was driving on a heavy traffic highway, in the middle lane, and truck just quit running. This is unjustifiable!! over $5000. 00 in repairs to get to get this truck to run! why hasn't Ford issued a recall on this notorious problem on these diesel engines?! I will continue to pursue a class act lawsuit over this, I do believe there are enough Ford owners very unhappy regarding these continuing issues.

White heavy spoke, loss of power, performance, engine stalled on major highway an extremely dangerous situation. Dealer stated not Ford or their problem. Charges close to $1,500 to repair. Dealer claims failed egr valve.
I was hauling a loaded horse trailer and had just merged onto the highway. As I was trying to accelerate, the engine was "catching" and wouldn't let me accelerate past 35 mph and was revving very high and wouldn't shift up into the next gear. It finally stalled and completely shut off in the middle of traffic and I had to coast to the side of the road where white smoke started pouring out from under the hood. My entire rig - truck, trailer and horses, had to be towed home and then the truck towed to the mechanic. He found the engine running poorly, and found low compression on cylinders #3 and #8. He found low oil pressure and when he removed the oil pan from the chassis, he found piston material in the oil pump. He removed the engine and found the pistons in cylinder 3 and 8 melted down. He had to bore out and hone all the cylinders, replace all 4 valves in cylinder #3 head, replace all pistons, replace the main bearing and rod bearing, update the oil cooler and replace 8 pistons and 6 head gaskets. When he put it all back together and test drove it, he found an exhaust leak from the ebp sensor and tube. Those had to be replaced. Before all this happened, I had noticed that the engine seemed to be "skipping" when I was hauling my horse trailer. It only happened when I was over 55 mph and it only happened when I was hauling. I had taken the truck to the mechanic before the big breakdown (described above) and he couldn't find anything wrong. I think that is because he was not hauling a trailer and that's the only time the problem occurred. The total bill for all these repairs is $6400. 00 and I have been told that Ford will do nothing to help me.

The truck has begun blowing white smoke while under acceleration. This is a very blinding smoke. I have found numerous other truck owners with the same 6. 4 l diesel engine experiencing the same issue. Ford has not offered a fix for this and say it is doing no damage to the engine. It has caused me to be pulled over by the police as it is that severe. I would like the truck fixed, a new exhaust system which works or I want Ford to buy the truck back for what I have in the vehicle. I should not have to drive a vehicle that is causing a safety issue for others. Ford will not help in this matter.

I had a 05 Ford super duty 6. 0 liter diesel that had 3 new turbo's put on due to skoring. Ford replaced all 3. When turbo's go out you loose power. I have a 06 super duty that has 26828 miles. The warranty just went out 6/16/11. Ford had to put on another turbo because it was skored. Ford did pay $750 and I had to pay $1142. I was going down highway and lost power and had to limp home pulling a 5th wheel camper. I have read where Ford has had a lot of problems with the 6. 0 liter diesel engine. I am upset that Ford that Ford did not cover this problem fully because of all problems they have had with the engine. The property damage below was just to the turbo itself. I am wondering if you as an agency have had other complaints like this and to see if their are any recalls or are going to be any recalls on this problem. The engine only had 26828 miles on it and I do not drive it every day because I have a department vehicle. To drive to work because I am on call 24/7. I voiced my concern to Ford and now I am voicing my concern to this agency,.

I have a Ford F-350 with a 6. 0 diesel engine. This engine has been nothing but trouble. Which creates a hazard for all who own one and to the public . This is the second time I have complained to you about this engine. Why aren't you people doing something with Ford and International. Two times my truck has dumped half the oil out going down the road. Once when the high pressure pump blew a seal and again when the oil cooler and egr cooler busted. If this truck is doing it then all the other 6. 0 diesel trucks on the road are too. If you google the oil coolers and egr coolers you will see just how big the problem is. If this is not a hazard then I don't know what is. If they sold say, 300,000 of these trucks a year from 2003 to 2007 , that's 5 years times 300,000 times 5 quarts (less than half, truck holds 15 qts)5 x 300,000 x 5 = 7,500,000 qts of possible oil spilled or 1,875,000 gallons of oil spilled if these trucks only spill 5 quarts over their life time. Most of the trucks will do it more than once. When the oil cooler busts the oil goes into the radiator and out the over flow into the environment. Updated 05/04/10.
