Ten problems related to engine belts and pulleys have been reported for the 2000 Ford Focus.
Engine Belts And Pulleys problem #1
The vehicle involved is a 2000 Ford Focus. My motor mounts went out while I was driving down the highway making the engine hop. My seatbelts are locking up so that you can not get the seat belts on. And my tires cord broke making the tire wavy and the steel belt was showing through. (dot number: e13 027430 tiresize: p195/60r15). This problem occurred on Thu., Aug. 23, 2001.
Engine Belts And Pulleys problem #2
The vehicle having this issue was a 2000 Ford Focus. Gas mileage is poor on this size veh--motor kicks into neutral while driving at higher speeds. Dealer keeps telling me there is no problem/cannot duplicate, 4 incidents, this is very freighting. Especially in heavy traffic & cannot get off the road fast. Brakes wear between 16000 and 18000 miles with normal driving. The motor belt had to be replaced at 22000 miles. This never happened so soon with any vehicle I have ever owned. Repairs and services are very expensive, many safety recalls and product warnings that take time to repair. The dealer has a problem making sure the parts are available when I make an appointment. The wheel bearings have been replaced several times and sound like they may be going bad again! I do not feel safe in this vehicle. What if something fails while myself or my family are in this vehicle. This vehicle has depreciated at such a drastic rate, that I would be wise to trade it for another vehicle. I feel it is in direct relation to all the safety issues with this vehicle. **dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**763169. Engine Belts And Pulleys problem #3
The car involved is a 2000 Ford Focus. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1FAFP34P1Y_. At 35mph, vehicle shuts off. Could have caused an accident. Cause unknown. Dealer notified. . Consumer states the vehicle has been in the shop 7 times for the same problem, consumer complained of wind noise inside the vehicle, the seat belts were inoperable. This engine belts and pulleys issue occurred Jun. 12, 2002.
Engine Belts And Pulleys problem #4
The vehicle having this issue was a 2000 Ford Focus. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1FAFP33P6Y_. Car has had the brakes serviced a total of five times and the car is stalling during acceleration. This car has been in shops for several recalls as well as twice for ignition lock failure. One of our children was trapped in rear seat by defective seat belt & had to be cut out with a knife. Car stalls after it warms up. Dealer says it's fuel pump but if that were so, wouldn't it stall waarm or cold. I spoke to an employee at another dealer who said Ford was finding problems with sensor connected with cooling system. Who do I believe? they want to charge us $700 to replace fuel pump that probably works fine. This issue happened on Sunday, December 15, 2002.
Engine Belts And Pulleys problem #5
I purchased my 2000 Ford Focus se from merlin motors in saskatoon. Production date - may 2/2000, stock no. Pp24941, r. O. No. 155631. I believe this car was previously owned by someone in british columbia. Here is a chronological breakdown of repairs. April 17/01 - took car in because driver mirror vibrated badly when driving - so badly that I could not look into it, it was shaking that much. Also, the trunk would not open from the release inside the car. Parts were ordered at this time. Vehicle kilometers- 32854. June 19/01 - they checked for driver mirror vibrating when driving and replaced driver side exterior mirror. The also checked for trunk not opening from the release inside the car, they replaced the trunk stop and adjusted. Vehicle kilometers- 35222 June 20/01 - they checked for power steering leak and replaced steering rack and set toe. Vehicle kilometers- 37782?? (this is obviously an error - I know I did not drive 2, 560 km in one day!) I also did not complain about the power steering and don't recall why my car was in there at the time. Sept 21/01 - they repaired rattle in right front going over bumps, tightened all assemble bolts in front end, removed right caliper and rotor, lubed all bushing, adjusted front splash shields, found tie rod bolt loose and tightened. They also fixed molding on window belt, which was loose and checked inside rear view mirror and found it flawed - part on order. Vehicle kilometers- 43170. Nov 3/01 - we were driving in saskatoon when engine started to boil. We knew this because of steam coming from the hood, all gauges in the car read normal! we took car to merlin - they could find nothing wrong with the car after their checks, and told us to bring it back if it happened again! work order for this date states: customer saw steam coming from under hood, antifreeze pooled on engine, gauge read normal, steam coming from overflow tank - fill with a/freeze, pressure test for leaks, no leaks found. This issue happened on Sep. 15, 2003.

Engine Belts And Pulleys problem #9
The vehicle involved was a 2000 Ford Focus. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of this Ford Focus is 1FAFP34P2Y_. Since buying this car in October 2000, I have had 4 fuel pump replacements. The car is now on its 5th fuel pump, and the problem the fuel pump replacement is supposed to correct is still happening. The car still has trouble (especially in wet or humid weather) with sputtering and jolting/surging. Most recently it has been getting worse and worse. Luckily the surging has (of yet!) not caused me to have an accident. Right now the car is in for a timing belt replacement (!) which was replaced incorrectly and now I have cylinder head issues. This engine belts and pulleys issue occurred Thursday, October 7, 2004.
Engine Belts And Pulleys problem #10
VIN of the vehicle was 1FAFP34P7Y_. Engine malfunctioned: Ford Focus se year 2000. Purchased from omar car sales in fremont (510)-770-0107 I thought it was the battery. When I came out of raley's at about 4:50 pm, I could not start my car. It was making a clicking sound only. (1) just had major work some of the timing belt, a motor mount, and spark plugs, all new Ford parts were used as replacements. The car had been in excellent condition beforehand. I had only purchased the car a little over a year ago from omar car sales for $6,000. 00, and it was running fine till 3 months ago, when the timing belt went then got fixed in one week. One minor problem with an ignition switch was found when I 1st bought the car, also very minor. (2) butch's automotive inc in fremont, 510-793-9883 found problem, (the valve seat inside the engine collapsed and failed, pistons came down, ruined my entire motor including oil on parts in process) I reported it to NHTSA, they said I also needed to contact the dealership, and manufacturer of which I did. Nhtsa said that if the dealership didn't do anything, to file a complaint. I spoke with jose in service at fremont Ford within 24 hours. He said contact the manufacturer, but the manufacturer tried to claim that there weren't any recalls. I think there are, and if not, I would like a discreet recall started. (3) butch said the cost of repair will be $5,200. 00 for all the damages engine wise, plus a re-built engine being installed. I would like all costs reimbursed to me, as this was a safety hazard. Had this happened on the freeway, I might have died when other cars crashed into my stalled vehicle. I had recalls done at fremont Ford, and my recalls were up to date. Butch says he was able to get a newly rebuilt Ford engine to newark , CA dealership, and my malfunctioned engine was returned to that dealership. (510)-651-5600. I alerted responsible parties of this matter in Ford, local and factory wide. It was Tue., Feb. 20, 2007 when this engine belts and pulleys issue occurred.
