I have a 2005 Ford Freestar with 61000 miles on it and I have had no problems no sounds no nothing and today on my way home on the highway it just stopped moving like I was in neutral but I was in drive. I had to pull over immediately as there were several large trucks coming up behind me. I barely got it out of the way. I was not able to find a spot to kind of get out of the way then I would not be here today.

Have a 2005 Ford Freestar with 64000 miles on it. While driving down a highway with my husband and 5 children in the car, it just revved up without warning and started to slow down. No drive, reverse, low. . . Nothing. The transmission just took a vacation. Lucky aaa was close by and got the car towed to our home and our family home safe. The next morning we decided to go out and try to start it again and see if anything changed. Now the car not only has no transmission but the car wont even turn over. Everything else works. Its not the battery, which is new. Have had regular maintenance on it and not had many problems until now,. Have a call into Ford right now waiting for a tech to call me back with options. Seeing so many people with the exact same issue , seems to me Ford should be taking care of this issue.
2005 Ford Freestar 36,000 miles was driving home on surface road along a 2 mile straight away vehicle bucked, (surged and slowed) while driving 40 miles an hour put it in neutral and reved the engine just fine put it back into gear and it drove about another mile did it again. . . Same response on my part and was able to limp it back to my house which was 3 miles from orginal place of the problem. I parked it and after a short google of the problem found hundreds after hundreds of people with the same problem. I've not repaired it yet. Pending finding out what my options are.
The transmission in my 2005 Ford Freestar stopped workign without warnign or prior indication that something was wrong. My wife backed out of the drive and then put the van in drive and it would not move forward. Also tried reverse and it no longer works either. This needs to eb a reacll based on what I am reviewing on several web sites. This type of repair (that could have been avoided with a better design) is costing approximately $2500 for each vehicle - with some owners experiencing this issue multiple times!.
I have a 05 Ford Freestar in the garage with transmission problems discribed by many on the internet. My wife was going to work and the van loss all power from the transmission. She was in heavy traffic and it just quit. After coasting to a stop she called me. We had to call a wrecker and had it towed to the garage close to home. After calling Ford, (their price over three thousand) I had it towed to aamco for an estimate, 2,500. 00. I've been told this could happen again, this is dangerous and we are beside ourselves that this could happen. My wife is 70 years old and the van only has 66,000 miles. P. S I've been told this could be an electronics problem that Ford knows about. Ed, austell,GA. If there's a class action lawsuit outthere, I'm in!!!!!!!.
November of 2010 we were coming off of an exit ramp and the van died. No warning, no lights, not a thing. The transmission had been a little sluggish coming from 2nd to 3rd gear the day before but fine that day. Had to replace the transmission. July 2012. Transmission began to jerk when going into or out of any gear. Power train light kept coming on. Had to replace the transmission. 3600 and some change later, it still jerks coming out of 1st to 2nd. We now know that this is a common problem with the vehicle that Ford knows about.
I have not had any problem with my 2005 Ford Freestar in the past. I was driving along on an interstate and experienced a loss of power. The vehicle slowed down and would not accelerate anymore.
I had taken my 2005 Ford Freestar van to be checked for a problem with the transmission because it wasn't shifting properly. Then later I had taken it to a Ford dealer for the check engine light to be diagnosed - they claimed that it couldn't be diagnosed because it didn't write the code properly. Transmission still not shifting properly. A month later the transaxle light came on, the engine wasn't running properly and in the rain the check engine light would blink on and off. I took it to a transmission specialist who actually took the time with the van to diagnose it. He had to let the engine warm up long enough for the lights to start coming on. Then he diagnosed the problem to be the 2nd gear in the transmission. Once the transmission was removed he said that it couldn't be fixed so I had to install a new transmission - $2700 later and had to borrow a vehicle from family to go on vacation. I also had to replace the air compressor for the air conditioner - $500 later but now it seems to be giving me problems again. I have had numerous issues with the tires - they don't hold air because of the rims that don't allow them to properly seal. I had the dealer put on the last set of tires and told them to fix the issue - so far I haven't had an issue. But for 60000 miles I have had issues.
2005 Ford Freestar. Driving normally, stopped at traffic light, when light changed to proceed van stalled. Started vehicle but would stall once shifted into gear. Managed to drive in reverse into a parking lot until tow truck arrived.
On sat. May 7, 2011 my 2005 Ford Freestar quit while driving 55 mph on an open highway. I lost speed while motor continued running. I pulled off to the side of the road turned off engine restarted fine, but would not move in either drive or reverse. I was stranded going to work. We think it might be the transmission. After reading all the complaints online there are hundreds I want Ford to do something about this. Someone please do something about this. We don't have the money to fix or even buy another vehicle. Now how do I get to work? support a family? after all the complaints why isn't there a recall yet?.

My wife was on the interstate with my 2 and 4 year old traveling 70 mph today(3/15/11). Van lost power to transmission and thankfully she was able to reach the safety of the shoulder by way of dodging to semi trucks coming up fast behind her. Van is at the dealership now to figure out what has caused the failure of power. I have read about all of the issues other owners are having and find this very dangerous and disturbing. Something needs tp be done by Ford to rectify the issue.
I own a 2005 Ford Freestar minivan. Over the last couple of days I noticed it would shift hard when I put it into drive. Then on Tuesday, 3/8/11 me and my family was on the highway, my husband driving, and noticed the van would not shift into 3rd gear. We pulled over and checked transmission fluid and added just a bit. We then started driving again and then the van would not shift into 2nd gear. We were able to get it to a mechanic and was advised that the transmission needed to be either replaced or rebuilt. We are having it rebuilt with at least $1600 or more expense.
The day after a heavy rain, my 2005 Ford Freestar started stalling out and the engine light coming on. I thought it was a sensor as I had the same problem last year after a heavy rain & took it to the local mechanic who replaced the cam sensor which solved the problem. This time the mechanic said it was the transmission & he could not fix it. We had it towed to the Ford dealer we bought it from who confirmed that it is the transmission & will cost us $2,200 to have it fixed. Why is such a new, low milage vehicle having this problem? I have been reading many complaints about the transmission on this very same vehicle. Why hasn't Ford recalled it? we cannot afford this and I need my van. It is so frustrating. Especially knowing that I am not the only one having thi problem. Isn't there something we can do??? I still owe over $2000 on this van that I expected to last me for years without having to repair the transmission. Please help!.
Stalling out of nowhere.
2005 Ford Freestar transmission problem - car just stalled on me while driving at a very busy time pulling into a driveway up hill. In addition, any time I tried to put it in a gear it would roll back. I almost hit the cars/people behind me. Plus, I was blocking the middle of the intersection.
I was driving west on kimberly rd in davenport,IA. In our 2005 Ford Freestar. On 1/17/2011 approximately at 1230pm. At the intersection of division st and kimberly the stop light was red and there were three cars in front of me. When the light turned green, my Freestar wouldn't move. It has only a little over 117,000 miles on it, and didn't give any warning of going out. After reviewing edmunds. Com for Ford Freestar transmission problems, I see this is a common occurence and I was luckier than most. The worse part of this was when the transmission went out, it was on a busy road in winter snow conditions and came close to being rear-ended a few times. Lucky I didn't have my family with me, because this could of turned into a serious accident. A davenport officer showed up to give me a safety barrier before a tow truck showed up, but I was there over an hour before the officer showed up.
I was driving my 2005 Ford Freestar and suddenly loss power, it felt like it was in newtral and coasted out of the road to a parking lot where it was tow to a shop. Bad transmission, it will cost me about 3,000 to repair.
We have a 2005 Ford Freestar van, I was pulling out of a parking lot and started down the road got up to 40 mph and all of a sudden my van coasted to a stop no gears. This never happened before, brought the van to a transmision place and they had to replace the torke converter costing me $810. I have read other complaints about this happening to other people.
Driving 70 mph on I-75 in northern michigan, transmission quit without warning, stranded my wife, three children and myself in the middle of winter on the highway.
While driving down highway without warning my 2005 Ford Freestar transmission went out.
Drove about an hour and then the transmission felt like it was slipping a bit around 65/70. Had never felt it before. Called mechanic when we got home who said bring it in 2 days later. Within that two days, the transmission completely let go and we had to have it towed to mechanic. He said he found water in the pan. Ended up replacing transmission with a rebuilt. Got car back. Withing a week the converter let go and he said it went through transmission and he found metal shavings in pan. Had to drop transmission again and repair. (hope this all makes sense, I believe this is what he described to me but if not, I can get a better explanation from the mechanic).
I was driving during rush hour traffic with my 3 young children, when I came to a stop sign. I went to turn the corner when my minivan wouldn't go forward at all. We barely missed being rear ended by the other car turning behind us. I was lucky enough to coast into a residential area and pull over.
My 2005 Ford Freestar transmission went out as I was driving. It has less than 50,000 miles on it.

2005 Ford Freestar. Pulling out into an intersection and vehicle lost all power. Transmission is gone. Have not gotten repair costs yet but I anticipate over $2000. I have seen that there are over 1000 complaints in the internet for the same issue. I could have been killed because I had no warning of this happening and there was on coming traffic approaching me.
While driving on new york state thruway at 55 mph the transmission on my 2005 Ford Freestart failed. The engine revved up and the car coasted to a stop. Luckily I was able to get off the roadway.
I drive a 2005 Ford Freestar and on sept. 29 2010 while on the interstate the transmission (or something similar) quit working. No symptoms or warnings beforehand. I checked the transmission fluid, and it was full. I was able to safely maneuver to the shoulder of the road and have it towed. Nothing has been done to correct the failure just yet but I am pretty sure a new (or refurbished) transmission will need to be put into the van.
