The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, the transmission began to vibrate excessively in a jerking motion with the illumination of the wrench warning icon. The warning icon remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The failure recurred ten times while the contact traveled at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and they were unable to detect a problem. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 82,650.

While driving down the interstate, the Fusion began to jerk and shake due to the transmission slipping, causing the car to lose its speed very quickly, almost causing a wreck. The dealership ended up having to do a complete transmission overhaul at only 13,000 miles. The problem came back around 20,000 miles and the dealership said it needed its codes reprogrammed. The problem persisted and around 70,000 miles, the vehicle began doing the same thing. Again while driving on the interstate, the car's transmission started slipping and the vehicle shook and jerked. Now the dealership conveniently recommends a new transmission, now that I am outside of my warranty at a cost of $4,000! this is a very dangerous situation and having a newborn child in the vehicle makes it even more alarming. I do not feel safe in this car and strongly feel that Ford needs to make its customers whole by recalling the transmission components entirely.
