In our 2000 Ford Ranger, the dome light intermittently remains on when the car is off. The light and the "door ajar" indicator will intermittently remain on while the car is being driven, causing potentially hazardous night-driving conditions. This has drained the car's battery, stranding the owner. This has happened over 20 times in the month of December and countless times since this problem began in the month of November. This failure was unprovoked, no indicator of any other problem was given and the driver is at a loss as to how to correct the failure without taking the car to the dealer.

Smoke from the steering column with the left turn signal on. while driving on the freeway, I turned on the left turn signal to change lanes. Initially the turn signal worked normally. After changing lanes, a column of smoke began rising from the steering column. The turn signal light on the dash board had gone from blinking on and off to a steady dim green and the turn signal arm had not fully moved to the off position. I moved the turn signal arm to the off position and the turn signal light went out and the smoke stopped shortly after that. At a stop sign, the same situation occurred. I did not use turn signal for the remainder of the drive.

Windshield wipers come on intermittently, vehicle has not been examined by dealer. The lights on the dash went out. Consumer found soot everywhere. Consumers husband checked to see if a fuse had blown. They noticed that in the power distribution box the fuses used were higher than what the manual stated. These had 50 amp fuses. The manual calls for 30 amps. Consumer feels this overage in power could have resulted in fire to the vehicle and that this may be the underlying problem with the windshield wipers.

When turning on left turn signal smoke came from steering column. Sometimes light won't turn off. Consumer played twice with switch. Please provide any further information.
When turning on directional light, and at making a turn, windshield wipers will turn on by themselves. Consumer believed that it was electrical related. Please provide more information.
Stopped at red light with left turn signal on. Turn signal indicator on dash went dim, but not out completely. A few seconds later smoke started coming out from the top of the steering column around the opening for the hazard light activation switch. Shut off the engine, pushed truck off to the side; waited about 15 minutes, started back up, no further indication of problem (however, did not use turn signals again for remainder of trip: ~5 miles).
Fog lenses are made of glass and the interior light will not turn off making it next to impossible to see at night. A friend is having the same problem with the interior light staying on in his 1998 nascar series f150.

Failure for brake lights to function after hard braking situation. The harness routing for the brake switch connector is tied too close to the connector . Applying the brake caused the wire to stretch and pull out of the connector pin. With the wire broken the brake lights fail to come on.
Dashlights are not working. Consumer sees soot on the dash sometimes and smells something burning. Dealer determined amps on factory installed fuses are too high. Cannot remedy the problem. Consumer states that the fuses should have been a 30 amp.
Whenever consumer hits a bump the windshield wipers come on. Also every time he puts the vehicle into reverse fuse, which is connected to the overdrive switch and reverse lights, blows out. Dealer and manufacturer has been notified.
The circuit breaker that controls the air flow into the engine has a malfunction which causes the engine to run prime, dumping gas onto the catalaytic converter. This is causing overheating of the converter, and could also lead to an fire. The dealer has been contacted.
After parking in garage tail light short circuited, causing an electrical fire . Fire department put the fire out. The dealer has been contacted.
