The vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1FTYR14V91_. My 2001 Ford Ranger 3. 0 liter automatic has a lot of pre-ignition under load, regardless of outdoor temperature. I have had 2 different dealerships say there is no way to change the timing to relieve the symptoms. An independant shop told me that that there was a Ford technical service bulletin addressing the issue. He said that the problem comes from a control module that changes the engine timing as needed for maximum performance. Is there such a cure for me?.
