20 problems related to cruise control have been reported for the 1998 Ford Taurus.
Vehicle in park, engine running, vehicle idling normally at about 1000 rpm. All of a sudden engine idle will go up to about 3500 rpm, cannot kick down. The only thing I could do was to shut engine off and restart.
Cruise control will not shut off when brake is applied, and brake lights do not shine at same time. It has been repaired, but consumer wanted to report it.
Ever since I started used cruise control engine accelerates-rpm at 2 1/2 while parked.
Cruise control picks up speed when going down hills. Dealer & the consumer both test drove a 2000 Taurus & the vehicle also increased in speed. Consumer stated that his 1994 Taurus was traded in for this 1998, didn't do this.
While driving 45mph took foot off accelerator and vehicle increased speed & maintained that speed. Cruise control not on. Vehicle failed to slow down with braking & rpms had came down without braking. Will be taking to dealer for a check. Vehicle takes off by itself and can be slowed only by braking.
Vehicle's speed did not decrease when gas pedal was released. Consumer said it was just like using cruise control.
Vehicle speed does not decrease after release of gas pedal. Vehicle maintains speed! cruise control is not activated. No engine braking occurs! this happens at any speed. Place trans in nuetral while in motion and the rpm increases afew hundred rpm the maintains rpm. Application of the brakes decreases rpm proportionatly to mph while in nuetral. . Dealer says " like it or not that is how it is".
Cruise control failed to hold while descending a hill. If control set to 55, unless you apply the brake you can be doing 75-85 mph at the bottom of the hill. Dealer says condition normal and that it is impossible to design a system that will hold speed on an incline, despite personal experience in previous vehicles to the contrary.
When cruise control is set it accelerates al least 15 mph past the speed it was set for.
While driving the vehicle will idle which will cause the vehicle to accelerate with the brakes applied. This may cause an accident. Had to place the vehicle in neutral and turn off the engine in order to stop the idle and accleration. Dealer replaced idle air valve, but problem is still occurring. Cause unknown.
Excessive use of brakes required when cruise control is in use, picks up speed when going over bumps.
Vehicle experiencing a problem with increase in speed during deacceleration, while going down a incline. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that was normal. Cruise control malfunctioned.
Although cruise control is set, the car accelerates when going down a hill. Acceleration up to additional 15 miles an hour. Driver must brake in order to maintain desired speed. Service department states this has been reported to them, but they have no solution.
While driving down a hill with the cruise control set at a specific speed vehicle will exceed that speed by 25 miles.
While driving with cruise control activated it disengaged without manual operation and without warning, cause unknown. Please give any further details.
Erratic operation of cruise control allows the vehicle th accelerate 10-15 mile over the setting while the overdrive is on. When overdrive is turned off cruise control maintains setting.
Design of vehicles were calibrated with increased dash-pot function causing in the vehicle not decelerating when taking the foot off the pedal.
Cruise control loses control when going down inclines.
Cruise control failed to disengage, causing vehicle to accelerate.
When using cruise control it will not disengage, causing vehicle to travel over the speed limit. Please provide further information.
