The contact owns a 2002 Ford Taurus ses. The contacts stated while driving approximately 25 mph he heard a loud noise, then the front left side of the vehicle fell onto the ground. The vehicle was coasted to the side of the road where he noticed that the front spring had fractured. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer nor was it repaired. The dealer was contacted and advised him that there were no recalls. An independent mechanic advised him that he was aware of the failure and the spring needed to be replaced. The failure and current mileages were approximately 118,000.

My 2003 Ford Taurus broke down on the road-upon investigating it, the front springs broke and grease spread throughout the front part of the car. I cannot afford to have it fixed, so it was towed to my home garage.

The front drivers sid spring broke and punctured the tire on my 2002 Ford Taurus. It was parked in my driveway and when I went to drive it failed. I have seen on forums that this has been an issue with other people and Ford had recalls until 2001 for the exact issue. There is a defect investigation going on. Please reference NHTSA action number : ea08018. Mine is the exact issue.
Driving car, heard a load crash from front end like someone had dropped a tray of socket wrenches. Load popping noise followed. Pulled over to inspect. Found a large portion of front spring drivers side wrapped around the strut. The piece was the shape of a "c". I am glad that the sharp end did not puncture through the tire as it was within 1/8" of the tire. I guess quick reactions prevented an accident. Spring will have to be replaced and front end inspected for additional damage. Old spring and broken off part are available.
The spring of the front strut assembly on my 2002 Ford Taurus broke in half while driving the car. There was no rust of any kind around it. The strut assembly was the original one form the Ford factory. I saw online that this is a common and extremely dangerous issue for which Ford issued a recall that goes up to 2001 models. I wonder why newer models were not included if the issue was never resolved.
Driving veh on road,front spring busted, causing damage to tire+possible damage to other parts of vehicle in that area. Had to replace strut and springs, and of course it is highly recommended that both front struts + springs be replaced. Veh is 2002 Ford Taurus---Ford did recall for exact problem-but only for 1998,1999,2000,+2001 years.
Put my 2003 Ford Taurus in reverse, backed up about a foot , tire blew out and the front drivers side suspension spring was broken.
Just starting backing up and heard and loud sound and then the tire went flat. Tried to change the tire but could not get it off. I found that the spring had broke and went through the tire. Called aaa and they said this was common with the2002 Taurus and that I was lucky it happen while I was not driving on the road. Very dangerous problem that needs to be addressed before people get killed.
This winter I had my right frond strut spring break as I was backing out of my driveway and the spring went right through my tire. The noise sounded like an explosion and scared me to death! my husband got the spring and strut repaired and purchased a new tire. I thought this was an isolated problem until I walked out today and sat in my car to go to work. I had not turned the car on, or even touched the steering wheel and again I heard the same loud noise and now the spring on the left side broke. I am also going to check the back tires because my car sits at a funny angle and I would guess tha the spring on the left rear is about to break.
Pulled out of garage and heard a loud pop. Front strut broke puncturing tire on drivers side. We just purchased the vehicle 3 wks ago it has a little over 90k on it. Vehicle is in good shape other wise. Prevoius owner had already replaced passenger side strut a few weeks before we purchased it. Very dissapointing. Was hoping that there was a recall on this part. And judging by the numerous complaints about the suspension issues, there certainly should be.
Bolts that hold front suspension to body fell out without warning. 4 bolts - 3 almost all the way out and 1 missing!!!! loss of steering control!
no lock washers on these bolts from Ford! they are all going to fall out!.

While waiting at stoplight, heard a popping noise and front drivers side of car went down. Was able to pull into gas station parking lot about 50 feet away. Upon inspection could see inside sidewall was torn up. Called for tow. A series of bad events had taken place, could have been fatal at high speed. Spring had broken and twisted out to side shredding tire. Tore open pvc boot. Spring also damaged axle. Also destroyed another large plastic part. All these parts had to be replace at great expense. Also replaced spring and strut on passenger side for safety s sake. Ford has recalled and replaced other model year springs, but not 2002 or 2003. This should never have happened, especially with Fords past acknowledgment of this problem.
Was driving my 2003 Taurus when I got a flat tire drivers side. . Called aaa they put my spare on. I took car to my mechanic who told me a coil broke and ruptured the tire. . It is going to cost $950. . I was told how lucky I was not to have had a major accident!!! only have 49,000 miles on my Taurus.
Front drivers side spring broke and pierced tire. Tire is destroyed and car is inoperable.
I'm adding my complaint to an open investigation #ea08018. My 2003 Taurus suffered a broken coil spring today which punctured my passenger side tire and apparently damaged upper and lower mounts in the process. Estimated cost of repair (including addressing the yet to be broken opposite side), is 1800 dollars. There was no accident as I was traveling a a slow rate of speed.
On 1/10, I was on my way to drop my kids off at their school when the car began to drive funny. I pulled over right away and saw the front driver's side tire was blown. . I proceeded to change the tire to my donut when I say the gash in my tire and I looked at the wheel well and saw the spring was sheered off. . Henceforth I had to pay to get new struts and a new tire and a new stabalizer for my car. . I looked on the web and saw a bunch of people have had the exact same problem with their 2002 Ford Taurus. . Please help.
Front springs breaking on 2003 Taurus. Loud boom in front of car. Result is a broken spring damaging front tire also. Car was backing out of garage when it happened. Had to tow vehicle as it could not be moved without further damge to vehicle.
Tue 28dec2010 outside temp = 21f I entered driver's seat & immediately heard loud "bong!" sound of lf coil spring breaking. I am familiar w/ Ford recall# 04v332000 (NHTSA reference #04v332000) and have been waiting similar recall for newer models during NHTSA action number: ea08018, ongoing for over two years now. I tried to drive off slowly to avoid tire damage but could not, as within the first tire rotation the broken spring slashed the entire inside sidewall of the lf tire. Repairs will cost $300 for strut/spring replacement + $60 tow + $150 for tire, total = $510, and I expect rf to break identically at any moment. It is outrageous that the investigation of a safety hazard identical to vehicles two years older has taken two years!.
Christmas morning I was backing out of my driveway when a loud popping noise occurred. It was found that the front drivers side spring has fractured. I was lucky to be at home driving at a low speed. However, this is the second time in 6 months that I have had a spring fracture on me. Back in June 2010 I had the same experience with the right rear spring. The car is currently un-drivable and must be towed to a shop for assessment and repair. Parts will likely need to be replaced and I hope there isn't more damage than needing the spring and potentially the tire replaced. I am writing to make you aware because many other 2002 Ford Taurus owners have experienced the same problem yet the real recall ends with model year 2001 and there is still a defect investigation open on my particular car for this problem.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that after entering his vehicle, he noticed that the driver side of the vehicle was sitting lower than normal. He went to inspect the vehicle and saw that the coil springs punctured the driver side tire causing it to deflate. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer who informed the contact that he needed to replace the coil springs. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000. My 2003 Ford Taurus was simply sitting in my driveway and all of a sudden there was a huge pop. We looked to see the tire had gone flat! when I took the tire we discovered the flat was a result from the coil spring breaking and puncturing the tire. So now not only do I have to pay to fix the spring, but also a new tire. Obviously Ford has not resolved the issue with the 2001 cut off model on a recall and they need to make right with their customers. I have been a loyal Ford owner. They should be as loyal to their customers!!!.
Was backing out of the driveway and heard a loud thump and then my tire deflated like a balloon. Had a tire guy come to fix it and he said it was due to a broken strut/spring. It had broken and slashed the tire. I am just thankful this did not happen on the interstate driving at a high rate of speed. Could have been deadly.
