This vehicle is garage kept and meticulous maintained, has 136,000 miles, original owner, brought to dealer for an oil leak, they said exhaust are frozen and won't come out after heating etc. They have to replace exhaust manifolds! bolts should not seize is the head of a garage kept vehicle that's heated! being a mechanic many years ago I have never seen this happen! this is the first year for the new engine, on a internet search I found it's not uncommon, and the bill is going to cost me over $8000 !. Driving my vehicle in the mountains pulling a 16000 lb 5th wheel trailer, the engine goes into reduced engine power due to a turbo vane position sensor / turbo over boost or under boost fault. This has happened 4 times in the last 3 months and has nearly caused an accident following each occurrence. The vehicle is a 2016 GMC Sierra 3500hd with the 6. 6l lml duramax diesel engine with 75000 miles. I believe the reduced engine power protection is far to abrupt in the loss of engine power to safely move the vehicle out of the flow of traffic. During each occurrence I was in the left lane of a 2 lane expressway attempting to pass a much slower vehicle going up a 5-8% grade and was unable to complete my pass due to the loss in propulsion which nearly caused an accident.

I purchased my vehicle in 2019. Since then, I have had several issues. I've had to replace the coolant reservoir, def heater/pump and twice changed the number 8 injector plug. The warning light came on just after the warranty went out. The code reader read the ambient sensor and no sensor.

First incident we were driving on the interstate towing a fifth wheel RV, and several warning lights illuminated before everything just shut down. Manage to get to the side of the road. Vehicle finally restarted and the rest of the trip was uneventful. Second incident, vehicle had not run for two days, got in and while the starter cranks, the engine will not start or run. Engine/transmission service and fuel system service messages showing on app and on email from onstar. Vehicle requires towing to dealer.
The contact owns a 2016 GMC Sierra 3500. The contacted stated that while her husband was attempting to start the vehicle, the contact stated that after five minutes the engine independently failed while the vehicle was running. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel system and fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The contact was transferred to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
Multiple instances of diesel engine emissions system parts and software failure. While driving, towing or not, the dic would randomly display a message that the def level is low and reduced speed will occur in x-amount of miles and that mileage would then begin a visible countdown on the dic, sometimes much more quickly than the actual speed I was traveling. In other words, it might at first state 500 miles remaining, but then be counting down from 500 miles by one mile per second of time, or faster. Each instance, I would park and attempt to refill the def tank, only to discover that the tank is already full or near full. My truck’s def tank has now been replaced twice under warranty with the latest tank being installed at only 35,460 miles on the odometer. During the latest replacement, the technician also diagnosed and replaced the electrical wiring harness related to the def tank, stating that one of the connector pins was not reading the required voltage. There was also a faulty diesel particulate sensor that was replaced under warranty. This emissions system is problematic, and it is unsafe to due to the drive ability restrictions it imposes due to faulty software and equipment. I use my truck to tow, and it would make for a very unsafe condition to have my vehicle’s speed become limited as if the vehicle ran out of fuel. Mountain grades. Two-lane highways. Passing through bad neighborhoods. Driving in uninhabited areas, sometimes late at night. Family of 6 in the vehicle. Unacceptable. General motors corp. Must create a permanent and fail-safe fix for this emissions system and implement the parts. The emissions system warranty should be extended from 80k miles to lifetime to cover the vehicles affected.

Engine coolant low error constantly appears. Gm service provider states that engine coolant level is fine, but sensor may be defective.
I own a 2016 GMC 3500 diesel that had a serious mechanical breakdown while traveling on the freeway. The truck lost all motive power and needed to coast across 4 freeway lanes. Once towed to a local GMC dealer, they diagnosed the problem as the bosch cp4 fuel pump internally came apart while driving. I have to have this vehicle working so I got it repaired at a cost of $16,145. This is a known issue and losing all power while at highway speeds could have caused a serious incident. Please address this issue before someone dies.
Various warning lights are coming on sincve I purchased this vehicle, such as abs, engine power reduced, oil changing service, service engine light, service trailer brake system, wheel tracking, service esc, passing gear cuts out. My vehicle has been in the shop many times and is in the shop now. I have a deep concerned for the safety performance of this vehicle for myself and my family.
Plugged in engine block heater and the car erupted in flames. Total loss.
Vehicle has a cp4 fuel pump. This pump has a high failure rate. Upon failure the vehicle shuts down and cannot be restarted. This can happen at any time and anywhere. Can happen while on a highway or freeway. This vehicle is used to haul heave loads. This failure can ending up to $10,000 or more to repair. This failure has not happened on this vehicle yet. Am very concerned about me safety and the safety of others because of the high failure rate.
•the diesel exhaust fluid heater is a faulty component in the system, there is a back order on the part with no eta • my pickup only does 55mph right now and soon to do 5mph you cannot drive on a public road doing 5mph •there is thousands of other people having the same exact problem! •the def light is illuminated on my dash along with the check engine light, when you diagnose the error code it comes up with “p20c1 reductant heater c control circuit/open”.
The throttle body gets stuck wide open after the eninge gets up to operating temperature, it will give some warning with the throttle like on off throttle use and no codes show up at all. The risk of everyones is in extrem danger. The break are to soft and well not stop unless you put both feet on the break pedal down to the floor. Tranismission can not figure out what gear it needs to be in way too many gears and horrible fuel mpg for the 6. 6l duramax l5p. None of the gm dealership will look at the truck unless there is a code or it is happening right there when they look up the trucks VIN.
While towing our trailer, truck went into reduced power mode, regen message displayed; check engine light came on; loud bag occurred and hissing from under the hood. Truck slowed to 3 mph so we pulled to shoulder and turned the vehicle off. Truck had blown the hose off the the turbo. We reclamped and restarted. Displayed check engine light, reduced power & regen message to keep driving however truck wouldn’t go over a 3mph crawl. Truck lost all power, everything shut down and wouldn’t restart. No dash lights, no error, no crank, no power. We were dead on the highway in the truck lane while towing. This truck goes into reduced power mode every time it tries to regen and we have had it to the dealer multiple times however, the problem continues to get worse. When it does regen, sometimes it takes hours. Dealer says needed a manual regen & that is their solution. Yet problem persists.
The contact owns a 2011 GMC Sierra 3500. The contact stated while driving approximately 75 mph, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The computer lights up the dash reducing power and turning off power to trailer brakes. This has almost caused an accident on several occasions . It happens a couple of times per trips. This vehicle has been in the shop a couple of times per month since it was put into service. Glenn polk Chevrolet has worked on it each time and the problem is still there. This truck has also had several injector issues. There is an open case with this vehicle with general motors with no resolution. I have filled out forms on each of my 2020 GMC's 3500's.

This started just a few weeks after I purchased the truck, still under warrenty. It has been in the shop twice for this. It has happened 3 times. While driving the truck will shut off like you turned the key off. Very dangerous when driving in traffic. Has been in shop twice for this problem, GMC has failed to find or fix the problem. I told them that I would not put my family back into a truck that has the possibility of causing a wreck and getting them hurt. Filed a claim 71-1191646541 with GMC customer service, trying to get some help. Nothing happened. The GMC service center told me that they could not find or fix the problem, and that I needed to pick up my truck. I told them that if they could not find or fix the problem, I would not put my family back into an unsafe truck that could possibly get them hurt or killed. I tried to have someone from GMC upper management contact me so we could come up with a solution. But no one from management would contact me. So I ended up having to trade this truck in for a new one, which cost me money out of my pocket, higher payments, longer terms etc. Dont think it was right that GMC would not stand behind there product. Why is it that GMC did not have to do anything about a safety item that they could not fix ? I was not asking for money or anything like that, just swap it out even for a safe truck that I could put my family in without fear of them getting hurt. But instead, GMC decided to forget about the problem, and it ended up costing me and my family money that could have been used for other things like food, bills, medical etc.

Feb 7, 2011, with just 11,200 miles replaced two glow plugs. Sept 6, 2013, in millersburg, ohio, with 26,632 another glow plug was replaced and was advised we should have the turbo checked when we returned home in California. March 20, 2014, with 31,986 miles, turbo was replaced. Given that our 2005 GMC truck, VIN # [xxx], blew up and burned up with only 30,000 miles, this is very alarming that our 2009 truck is having such major problems.
