1 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2018

Car stopped while driving on a busy street. Transmission failure.

2 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2018

Abs/tcs module failing causing transmission no to go into gear or jump around gears and hard shifts and acts like transmission failure all with out giving any codes only code I have is 84-1 car will start and drive anywere fine for about 15 to 30 mins then starts acting up like the transmission is failing, with help of Honda mechanic and other Accord owners saving me from buying an new 1300 transmission I have found abs/tcs module failure.

3 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2016

Car is serviced as specified, no issues (second owner for 5 years). Without warning, transmission failed. Vehicle was being driven on surface streets, made odd sound and stopped operating.

4 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2016

While driving home from dental appt, vehicle started to lose acceleration all of a sudden; driving normally in traffic then car started to jerk/ and rpms started to get higher before slowing down. Car then slows in traffic and does not accelerate even though shift is engaged in drive. Was able to nurse my car to mechanic's shop, determined transmission failure $4100 to rebuild!! called Honda, was told car is not covered by recall, plus since it has 97k miles and 12-years it is not covered by extended warranty. Thanks Honda for standing behind your products. . . Will be looking at new fords this week. . . . . Thank good this failure occurred at a relatively safe side street. Could really cause a major accident!!.

5 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2016

I am original owner of this car purchased at beginning of 2004. 12 years later we are having transmission failure at 90,000 miles. I called Honda because their website listed the recall for my year and model but when I searched it by VIN no recall applies. They told me that the recall doesn't apply to my VIN. I asked them how they determine that. Is there a serial number cut off after which Honda made changes and they can prove my car is not effected? the answer was "all I can tell you is your VIN is not included in the recall". Well, I did some research as my vehicle was having the exact same problems as described in the recall. Nhtsa recall number 04v-176 has related documents on file and one of them being a letter dated June 28 2004 from american Honda motor CO. Inc. Signed by a william r. Willen. This letter clearly identifies my car as being included in the safety related recall and I should have received a notice of recall in late 2004. I never received any notice. Some how my car experienced no issues until 2015, but the issues did eventually show up. Now today my car was failing to accelerate on the highway and also trying to downshift to low gears at highway speeds and then suddenly failed to drive at all. We had some indications in the past couple weeks and had the transmission drained and filled 4 times to try to remedy this problem. I talked with two certified Honda mechanics who both told me the transmission was going to fail and nothing could be done. Well, they were right, but here I am in this situation now because Honda failed to recall my car in 2004 as it should have been. For years now we have unknowingly been driving a car that could have caused the driver to lose control and crash. Honda did not fulfill their duties in this recall. I suspect there are many more like mine still on the road. Honda should fix all the cars effected retroactive.

6 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2015

Transmission failed while driving on highway with no warning.

7 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2015

Textbook case of transmission failure for my '04 Honda Accord v-6 on Friday, may 22, 2015. Car failed on the 15 fwy outside of barstow, CA and had to be towed to the los angeles area. When I contacted american Honda I was told that my VIN was not part of the recall. My car, though 11 years old, had only 89. 5k miles on it. It had been serviced at all times by my Honda dealer, including transmission service 3 times, including January of 2015. I have all documentation. Honda quoted me $5,642. 40 for the repair, and also in a letter dated 6/24/15 confirmed that I need a new transmission assembly. I "escalated" my complaint to american Honda and was offered $250 "customer loyalty card" which I initially declined. I then contacted american Honda again and received a $300 card for the inconvenience that when my car was returned to me by Honda the entire air intake system was missing!! it took the Honda dealership 3 days t contact me and return the air intake system. I bought this Honda Accord brand new from the Honda dealer and am the only owner/driver. I still am without a reliable vehicle and there is no reason that a transmission, which has been consistently serviced by the dealership, should fail with less than 90,000 miles on the vehicle. Had I not been in the desert with lighter traffic, I would have been involved in an extreme crash with other vehicles. Honda should repair my vehicle and acknowledge that the current recall fails to include additional VIN that were affected. They focus their ad campaign on "helpful", yet they do not help their Honda owners. Shame on Honda and I would like some results.

8 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2014

Vehicle started to loses acceleration all of a sudden; diving normally in traffic then car started to jerk/ and rpms started to get higher before slowing down. Car then stops in traffic and does not accelerate even though shift is engaged in drive. Transmission failure that could have caused accident. Vehicle eventually drove again after turning car off and back on but stalled again/ issue repeated.

9 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2014

My 2004 Honda Accord v6 transmission decided to die on Saturday November the 15th. I was driving on the interstate when I realized the rpm's were going up, but I wasn't getting any acceleration. I pulled over to check my transmission fluid, oil and etc. Everything was good. So I start back on the road trying to make it to my destination. The next thing I know I heard what sounded like a chain breaking off and the car jumped back like I was gearing down really low. I hit my head on the steering wheel and blacked out for a minute. Thankfully I had someone with me and they grabbed the steering wheel and directed us off the interstate. We lifted the hood once again and could smell something burnt. We were able to get it to a mechanic who said the transmission had failed. We had no issues prior to the date the transmission failed. I'm extremely upset by this. The car had been taken care of and maintained regularly. My family is Honda enthusiast and have never had problems. That is why we always bought Honda's, for their reliability. I think Honda needs to make this right and have the transmission fixed. From what I've read this has been a major problem affecting tons and the transmission has been recalled. I thank god I didn't kill or hurt anyone during this ordeal.

10 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2014

Transmission failure while driving. Bought vehicle used in Feb. 2014 from dealer with 97,570mi. At 104,000, transmission failed. Repairs can range from $4500 to $3400, with either a Honda rebuilt transmission or my own being rebuilt. Since Honda was aware of these failures (had a recall before I was an owner) and the dealer that sold me the car was likely also aware, I find these practices totally dishonest and bordering on illegal. I paid almost $10,000 for this vehicle because of low mileage, only to have a major failure 8 months later.

11 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2014

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at no particular speed the rpm's abnormally increased to 7500 independently. The vehicle started to jerk back and forth with the service light and acs lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing, who stated there was a transmission failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,530.

12 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2014

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the transmission failed to shift into second gear. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The technician informed the contact that the transmission would need to be replaced. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number 04v176000 (power train) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

13 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2013

This is my second report of a transmission failure in my 2004 Honda Accord. My transmission locked up and in getting over I was hit from behind in a hit and run. I had to have it rebuilt when it failed back in 2010, and now it is failing again. I reported the incident (10342732) to the NHTSA back in October of 2010. My VIN number does not fall in the range of customers with this issue; however, like many that purchased this vehicle during this time. . . The transmission is prone to failure.

14 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2013

Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 mph, she approached a stop sign and after coming from the complete stop the transmission failed to operate upon engaging the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and transmission center for diagnosis where both technicians stated that the transmission would need to be replaced. In 2004, the vehicle was repaired for a recall under NHTSA campaign id number 04v176000 (power train). The vehicle had not been repaired for recent failure. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 136,000. Js.

15 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2012

On December 10th, 2012, transmission failed completely while commuting to work on mn 95. Barely avoided collision reaching safe shoulder area (winter conditions). Injured back pushing vehicle out of way of oncoming traffic. Transmission began whining upon cold start and slow in shifting at approximately 125,000. Attempted diagnosis at Honda dealership - failing transmission. Was told to contact Honda America regarding 2004 recall and 2006 settlement. No response to request for assistance from Honda America. Local transmission repair shop diagnosed slight slipping in 3rd and 4th gears, even when warmed up. Looked up technical service bulletins regarding 2004 recall repairs utilizing jet pack to increase transmission fluid flow (and pressure?). Called Honda America and was told VIN indicated the problem had already been addressed during vehicle manufacture (2nd half of 2004) and recall for jet pack was not needed. Vehicle had to be towed and remanufactured transmission installed. Cost - $4,000 plus lost work. Despite 2004 recall, 2006 settlement and extended warranty (7yr/100k), Honda America refuses to assist. Have owned 6 Hondas since 2000 (1998 Accord, 2000 civic, 2001 Accord, 2003 odyssey, 2004 Accord and this 2004 Accord). Will now sell my repaired 2004 Accord and my 2003 odyssey fast before its transmission fails and will have to seek another company that actually stands behind its products.

16 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2012

I have a 2004 Honda Accord v6 and while merging into traffic on my way to work, the automatic transmission failed. I was nearly rear-ended, but was able to get the car off to the side of the road safely. Had this happened on a highway I could have been rear-ended by an 18 wheeler. With a v6, I expect to be able to pull out into traffic and come up to speed quickly and safely. That was not the case on the 29th of November and I was nearly rear-ended by a minivan due to the transmission failing completely. I am told that the transmission oil pump failed, and that lead to the transmission failure. I am now trying to trade in this vehicle for a Toyota instead. I no longer feel safe driving any Honda vehicles. In my experience, Hondas nonchalant way of dealing with this issue is extremely disturbing, and makes me feel that Honda does not care about me as a customer. Sad, if this is the new Honda, I will be sure to inform everyone I talk to about the decline in Honda quality and customer service that I experienced.

17 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

Transmission failed on highway, was able to drive at 50 mph at 5000 engine rpm. Slow to engage into drive from stop. Next day, would not engage r or d. Honda offered only $1300 goodwill on a $5k+ bill for reman transmission. Always performed a transmission fluid drain and refill every 10k miles since 60000 miles on the odometer w/Honda oem atf-z1 purchased from dealer. Filled up to the circle on the dipstick between the handle and last circle; poured new atf-z1 through the dip stick hole. Had to bite on a $2500 rebuilt repair bill from an indy shop.

18 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2012

I was driving the car on the I-15 approaching victorville, CA. The car suddenly lost all power and I had to pull to the side of the road to prevent getting hit from behind. The car stalled once I got it stopped and the warning lights for the engine and transmission came on. The transmission had apparently overheated and spewed all the transmission fluid out onto the road. I called for a tow truck and had the vehicle towed to victorville Honda. They told me that it was too late in the day to look at the vehicle and drove me to a car rental place where I rented a car at my own cost. The next morning they called and informed me that the vehicle needed a new transmission and the cost would be approximately $6000 for them to replace it. I was driving from California to ohio and could not afford the cost. I had them flush the transmission and refill it and continued on my trip. Approximately one month later the transmission completely failed and I had it replaced at a local shop.

19 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2012

I was traveling on the interstate and was gradually having problems with my Accord v6 engine shifting into third gear. Rpms would go up, but no additional power. Finally transmission totally failed. Honda reported to me that the error code indicated an internal transmission failure and I needed a new transmission. They only gave me $1300 towards the $4400 cost of the transmission. They had no response to my comment that I noted other failures of the transmission posted in this database and elsewhere on the web.

20 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2012

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Accord. The contact was driving 20 mph when the transmission failed without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection where they advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 04v176000, (power train:automatic transmission). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified but did not respond. The failure mileage was 48,406.

21 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2012

I did the routine maintenance on my Honda Accord. I have followed all of the specifications regarding oil changes, maintenance on the transmission, timing belt replacement, etc. Unfortunately, even with the routine maintenance performed on this car, my transmission failed on a road trip on July 7, 2012. I was driving on the interstate going 75 miles per hour when my Honda Accord would not accelerate anymore. Thankfully, I was able to safely pull across three lanes of traffic in order to get to the shoulder. Unfortunately, that is when I discovered that my transmission failed and I had to take it to the nearest garage.

The dealer and manufacturer were notified and informed the contact that the vehicle was not under recall. The failure mileage was 138,000.

25 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2012

First, I called approximately two weeks ago and filed a complaint over the telephone. The man I talked to said he would follow up with an email to me, which he never did. He also said I would receive something by mail, which I never did. My name is lenore madrachimov 92 echo place elmwood park, NJ 07407 madrachimov@aol. Com. I would like to know what happened to that complaint? in short: my 2004 Honda Accord's transmission failed at 94k. Honda said my VIN was not part of the recall. Who did Honda make a deal with? I had to pay to have the trans rebuilt. Now going high speeds for long distances the dash board lights up, the d light blinks, the triangle comes on, the engine light comes on. Once the car cools down most lights go off and after 3 cycles, the engine light goes off. Auto zone came up with some p code that it was a sensor. The trans guy replaced it. , I am still getting dashboard lights and this time I lost the speedometer. Someone said the trans is overheating. But then why the p code that it is a sensor electrical problem? if Honda is having such a big problem with this why isn't the highway safety commission getting involved? why doesn't everyone write to them and make a complaint? why aren't you getting involved with this issue? Honda put a bad product in their cars and the consumers are suffering. In 1970s chevy put a small trans in a mid size car with plastic parts. After 3 transmissions and a trip to court the judge ordered they put a bigger trans in my car. Is this the same thing? this is a very serious problem with Honda and their transmissions and I would like to know why the consumers are getting the raw deal on this? the Honda dealership said they don't know anything about this problem? how can that be when there are so many complaints!.

26 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2012

27 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 12/25/2011

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the vehicle would not accelerate from a stop. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and the vehicle stalled while they were diagnosing the failure. The contact was informed that the transmission failed. The vehicle was repaired. 29 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2011

Was driving down the highway about 50mph and all the sudden the engine rpm increased but the car wasn't going any faster, but doing the opposite. I looked in my rear view and came so close to being rear ended, thankfully I pulled over quickly out of traffic. The car would not move, called a wrecker got towed to Honda. . . And guess what . . Yep transmission failed, and to make matters worse my VIN# was not part of any recall. . Go figure! I have the 04' Accord with the v6. . We will see if Honda steps up.

30 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

My 2004 Honda Accord v-6 transmission failed at about 100k miles. There was a previous transmission recall but apparently they did not do any repair during the recall because the transmission looked fine! sure enough, it failed after. I had to fix it and then called to request a reimbursement or partial reimbursement from Honda. They offered a $50 gift certificate! the response from Honda customer service and Honda repair shop was that it was normal for a transmission to fail at 100k. So for all of you looking to buy a new car, be aware that it is normal (not) for a Honda to fail at 100k miles and as such expect to pay an additional $10-$15k to replace transmission several time over the life of your Honda. After more than 3 Hondas, my next car will probably be a Toyota. Signed Honda just lost another customer. . . . .

31 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2011

Honda Accord ex-l v6 2004 116¿000 I was driving on the highway at 55 mph, and was coming up on some stand still traffic. I was in the middle lane going about 20 mph. As the traffic started slowing down and I was attempting to get over to right lane and merge off the exit when my transmission failed. I hit the gas as I pulled into the right hand exit lane but my car would not accelerate, causing me to almost get rear ended. The rpm gauge was at 3 but the car wouldn¿t accelerate. I had to rev it and coast down the highway with cars behind me blowing at me. The fastest the car would go was 10 mph on a single lane exit onto another highway so I got to nearest exit (2 miles away) coasted down the exit and pulled over and shut my car off. After 10 minutes with the car off I started it back up and attempted to get back home the car did fine for 10 minutes until arrived 3 blocks from house and had to pulled on the side of the road from the same transmission failure with emergency lights on, I cut off the car for another 10 minutes and made it home. My car has 116,000 miles and i¿ve researched recalls on my make and model and Honda has 1,000,000 recalls on 2004 Honda transmission. When I call Honda's toll free number and gave my VIN number and Honda representative says there¿s no recall on my VIN. They also mentioned to take it to Honda dealer to get the problem diagnose which they will not cover. I felt like my life was danger, I almost got rear ended twice and Honda will not correct there problem with their faulty transmissions. I¿ve reviewed dozens of forums with thousands of complaints from different Honda owners with the same year (2004) with the same problem as me- and Honda did not help on repairs or any compensation.

32 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2011

Transmission total failure occurred while traveling on the high way.

33 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2011

While attempting to pass a tractor trailer on the highway my transmission failed to shift into a higher gear & start to slow down. It was almost as if my car was in neutral. My rpms shot up but my car wasn't accelerated. I was nearly hit by the tractor trailer & was nearly hit several more times as I coasted across three lanes onto the side of the road. I called a local dealer & they want approx $5000 to repair it. I did a search online & this appears to be a widespread problem.

34 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2011

My transmission was recalled in 2004 however the "fix" was to install an oil jet kit and extra lubrication to the gears. The transmission still failed at only 65k miles. Honda now refused to pay for the repairs. Honda knowingly put my safety and the safety of my two year old daughter at risk by not replacing the transmission. The incident happened while driving my daughter to school and I become stuck going up a hill and started rolling backwards into oncoming traffic.

35 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2011

I own a 2004 Honda Accord ex coupe v6 engine. . . And the transmission has failed at 79,000k miles. A safety issue because I was almost rear-ended as I was trying to go up a hill and the car did not want to go forward anymore although it was in drive and I was pressing the gas. . . It kept rolling backwards as if it was in reverse, and I have an automatic transmission!!!! this seems to be an ongoing problem for this make and model of this year's vehicle. . . I want to join the other thousands of people out their to report this as a safety problem, it couldv'e cost me my life an anybody that was behind me!.
