2 Starter problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2023

The car intermittantly will not start and can leave me stranded. It appears to be a faulting ignition switch as the starter works fine so long as the electrical system turns it on. This appears to be a common problem with this vehicle that was recalled on the previous 2013 model and apparently not fixed with the 2014 model.

Car has 85,000 on 2014. Recent issues include defective starter and rear brake caliper. Also rear tires spin if road is damp even with anti serve engaged and good tires. Previous issues include battery component recall and axel recall. Did I buy a lemon?.

6 Starter problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2021

Got my starter replaced since it was turning off on me but that did not fix the issue. Reading a lot of similar situations. My car has turned off on me once on the freeway and I almost got hit the good thing is I was on the far left lane and turned the wheel on time, but my car was still sticking out a bit I almost got hit multiple times. Turned off on me twice on the street luckily I was in traffic, still a scary and risky situation. Also tried replacing the alternator did not work.

Starter malfunctioned while parked on the street. This is a widely reported issue with hundreds of reports online and no recall. Cost to replace at dealer is over $700. Car died on the street.

8 Starter problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2021

The engine push start button has stopped working. The battery is new, the starter is good. Numerous attempts have to be made to start the vehicle. Numerous complaints have been filed with Honda and the company refuses to help.

9 Starter problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2021

The failing starter is a well known issue among the Honda Accord community. The starter begins to fail prematurely and eventually will fail to start the car leaving the driver and or their passengers stranded. This can happen at anytime/anywhere the vehicle needs to be started. There is a current TSB to replace the starter and turn the flex plate one bolt hole over. Many times this happens after any warranty has expired leaving the owner to pay out of pocket a large amount of money.

10 Starter problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2020

Day 1: car had 2 instances of no start accompanied by strange whirring noise under the hood. The first time took 5 tries to successful start, the second time took 2 tries to successful start. All dash lights/radio had power. Day 2: car started up first try no problems, but later in the day when trying to use vehicle again, I encountered the same issue as day 1, but this time without successful start upon exhausted number of tries. Battery voltage tested and monitored while trying to start indicated it wasn't a battery issue. Vehicle towed to purchasing dealership. . . . Told I need a new starter. . . 500$+ bill. Expect it to be out of shop tomorrow. Bms recalled and replaced in 2017 by previous owner, my VIN not included in starter recall. Bought with 76,000 miles on July 11th 2020, starter went out exactly 4 months later November 11th 2020 with 81,000 miles. 2014 Accord lx huge bummer. . I'm a die hard Honda fan and recommender but this has caused lots of inconveniences. I hope Honda makes this right.

11 Starter problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2020

The vehicle tends to not start. Turning the ignition only causes a clicking sound, however the car will not turn over (start). I purchased a new starter but the vehicle still does not start, I read online that chances are it will not fix the problem. I found many people online with the same issue that I'm having.

12 Starter problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2020

Same issue as case #11339806 except my 2014 Accord's push-button starter failed at less than 72,000 miles. This is a known issue with this model year, TSB mc-10100621-6340. Cost of repair over $900. There should be a recall.

13 Starter problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2020

I have a 2014 Honda Accord v-6 exl. The car intermittently will not start. The problem appears to be becoming more frequent. Battery has been replaced. It takes several attempts after pressing the starter button. For lack of a better term it sounds like and electrical whine. This occurs sometimes at the first start-up or while out and about running errands. Has been ongoing for approximately 8 months. This car was purchased new in July 2014. I am the only qwnerof this vehicle. It has 5500 miles and is kept in the garage.

14 Starter problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2020

2014 Accord suddenly had issues starting. Push button start produces no crank, no attempt to start. All dashboard lights come on, radio, headlights work. Next try started it properly. Issue then happens more frequently and it takes more and more attempts to start. Brand new battery. No error code / check motor light. All you can do is wait and keep trying to start it. . High school aged daughter can no longer drive the car as we cannot have her stranded somewhere when the car does not start. For all of us in the family, the car immediately became unreliable and a risk since I have strong concerns about the safety of the vehicle when driving as well since everything with the operation relies on the electrical system to function properly. . At the Honda dealership, I reproduced the issue. Did not start on 3 of 5 attempts. Service tech diagnosis was "possible bad starter". No way a starter should go bad on a 2014 that is well cared for and not used extensively. The solution offered was for me to pay $900 for something that "might" fix the issue. They claimed to not be aware of the astronomically high number of 2014 Accords with this issue, despite many, many others who have reported this issue. Google auto-complete suggests "starter issues" as soon as you enter "2014 Honda Accord". In the search box because it's one of the most common entries. The 2013 Accords got recalled for faulty starter. The 2014 Accord already had a recall for battery housing. There clearly is a defective electrical issue with this vehicle. The extent of which and the risks associated with it are unknown. It needs to be addressed permanently by Honda to get the vehicle in the proper state where it can be started whenever and wherever the operator is (day or night) and where the electrical system is proven safe for all in the vehicle.

15 Starter problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2020

I have a 2014 Honda Accord 2. 4l ex-l with only 40,000 miles. About two months ago, I started experiencing an intermittent starting problem with the push start button. When I depress the brake pedal and push the start button, all of my normal dash lights come on as if I put it in start mode and I hear one click, but the engine does not turn over. While this does not happen all the time, it happens more than it starts on the first try. When this happens, it can take between 2-6 tries before it finally starts. I replaced the battery 6 months ago, but the issue came recently and is still ongoing. I had the alternator and starter both tested by numerous places and both are testing good.

16 Starter problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2020

Been having electrical problems since we got the car. Year 3 we needed new starter, new back up camera. This year driver's window would work only work some of the time. In June when I started all the dashboard lights came on with abs system power failure warning. It would go on and off as I drove. Then the car started jerking as it was driven and finally stayed on and was on everytime we started. Needs a new modulator-control unit which is $1,400 and has been backordered since mid June. Haven't been able to drive car, and I can't renew registration because it won't pass va safety inspection.

17 Starter problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2020

The same problem as the other 250 entries. Engine won't start at the press of the push button. I have 75,000 miles on the car. It is garaged and well taken care of. It doesn't matter the time of day, temperature or if it's the first or last drive of the day. Frustrating to say the least. I have to repeatedly push the button, try shifting into neutral, try getting out and back in. It is entirely random, sometimes taking ten minutes or more to finally start. All indications are normal on the dash, it just will not engage the starter. No click, nothing.

18 Starter problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2020

Every once and a while I get in my car and try to start it up and it won't start . It takes several times before it does start up . You never know when it's going to not start because it does it every now and then . I have been stranded many times waiting and constantly turning the switch to see if it'll start and after many tries, it does . I have replaced the starter and key fob batteries neither one of them were the problem. After replacing the starter , my key fob stopped working and I can't lock my doors anymore . I've also took it to the dealership to have it looked at and they tried to replace two of the fuses but they both burnt out as soon as they were put in . I've only had this car for two months and it feels like I've had it for years the way I'm having problems with it .

19 Starter problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2020

Vehicle fails to start or engage starter with pressing of start button. Only after a few minutes and repeated attempts to start will the system engage. This event happens about once every ten vehicle trips. Battery and alternator check out fine.

20 Starter problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2020

Starter makes grinding noise and vehicle won't start. Approx 78,000 miles on vehicle. Started having issues at @54,000 miles. Push button would click, panel lights flashed, but car wouldn't start. Replaced battery and that solved clicking issue. Honda states starter needs replaced but won't cover as it's out of warranty. Should not fail on a 2014 Accord v6 with only 78450 miles. Attempting to start when at work or home. There is a known TSB at Honda, mc-10100621-9340.

21 Starter problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2020

I have had 1 oem Honda starter replaced and 2 aftermarket ones. The car intermittently starts. Sometimes immediately and sometimes leaves me stranded. I took the car in a few times to the Honda dealership in the past and since I couldn't replicate it they couldn't do anything and was charged the diagnostic fee $180. This car is so unreliable that I can't even have my kids drive it fearing them being stranded. I had the car towed at least 6 times. To have the car start fine the next day or even hours later. There are so many complaints with others owning the same generation Honda Accord on all the forums online. It is not safe at all. I have been dealing with this around 40k and now my car is 160k, since no one seems to be able to fix it.

22 Starter problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2020

Engine start was intermittent. Car had only 55,000 miles. Honda service department recommended a new starter. Car was out of warranty. Very expensive repair.

23 Starter problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2020

Engine will not start intermittently. Car is push button start. Hear relay click but starter does nothing. After repeated attempts, car starts normally with plenty of crank from the starter. Battery/alternator checks out fine; this is not a battery problem. Intermittent but seems to be increasing in frequency.

24 Starter problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2019

My 2014 Honda Accord was having trouble starting, pressing the push button start would only result in a click. After being stranded by the vehicle not starting I had to have the vehicle towed. I removed the starter for testing. When the starter was bench tested it worked fine. I put it back on the car, it started once and would not start again. I replaced the starter myself. It was $310 for the part. There have been no issues starting the car in the week following the replacement. After reading the NHTSA posts and online this is a systemic issue with the Accord that is underreported.

25 Starter problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2019

My Accord had starting issues for sometime, few weeks ago it completely dead. Called aaa battery service, they checked and replaced the battery. Again I faced same issue, with in a week my vehicle completed dead, which didn't start. Towed the vehicle to near by Honda dealer, they inspected and told that issue was bad starter. And they charged fancy price for that, $431 for spare and $375 for labor just replacing the starter. So many customers facing the issue, within 45,000 miles, Honda doesn't care. When I raised this issue to Honda they told me that starter is wear part and I need to replace every 40,000 miles. Attached Honda sevice invoice for reference.

26 Starter problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2019

I have had the message "check charge system" on my car since I bought it from moses Honda. I got a recall notice on it and took it in and the service guy said the recall would fix it. When I pulled out of the lot at moses Honda after having the recall supposedly fixed my car still said "check charge system". Took it to a Honda dealer in georgia and said needs a new starter. Still says "check charge system". Honda will not fix it's cars.

27 Starter problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2019

This problem with 2014 h Accord exists since Nov. 2018 (mileage then approx. . 49,000 mi). The starter clicks (battery is full) and nothing is happening. After several attempts the engine typically started. In June 2019 I checked at Honda dealership whether the battery switch recall is the offender. It was not. They could not replicate the issue despite my detailed description how the non-start event happens. In 2019 this issue started showing up with higher frequency just yesterday I got stranded on the road in parking lot. Had to leave car there overnight (attempted to start maybe 20 times with different p-n configurations battery about 13. 6 v) no success the car and starter were dead (1 click only). Came back next morning with towing service. The car started. This issue with malfunctioning starter is on- and -off. Hundreds of people have exactly the same problem with the starter with this h. Accord lx 2014 model. The h. Dealer pretended that they are not familiar with the issue (plenty of complains on the internet which I showed them). I am waiting for oem starter part to be replaced. Car has 61,000 miles now. It is way premature for the starter to develop these types of problems which for me last exactly for one year (Nov. 2018) and creates a real road hazard, especially in winter time. Recall from Honda is necessary. It is systemic issue here.

28 Starter problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2019

2014 Honda Accord lx with 28000 miles. Started having starting issues approximately 2 months ago. Takes anywhere from 2 to 8 tries to start at times then other times ,no issue at all. No issues while driving, only when parked. Changed the battery without improvement. Called Honda customer care since this is an identified issue by the number of posts on the internet. The care rep "anna" informed me that since the car was not under warranty, basically nothing could be done, and that there was no recall. She informed me that it appears to be a starter issue. I told her it wasn't. It is faulty design part issue by Honda. I asked her why the 2013 cars were recalled but not the 2014. Her response was that the 2014 cars are not recalled.

29 Starter problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2019

Parked in store parking lot, veh turned off for aprox 30 min. Vehicle needed multiple tries to start. Repl battery, was better for a week. Needed 8-10 tries to start yesterday. Would just click when turning the key. Taking in to have starter replaced. Vehicle only had 60k miles, should not be needing a starter this soon. Started having issues in the past month.

30 Starter problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2019

Engine fails to crank at first try. Car has only 30000 miles. Starter makes strange sound and nothing happens when cars is parked for some time. Had the battery terminal recall done before this started to happen. Repeated tries with the start button will eventually work, so far.

31 Starter problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2019

Engine takes long to start. Starter doesn't turn over. Starter takes up to multiple attempts before engine turns on. Once you turn the car off the process start over again. It takes me anywhere from 15 to 20 mins to start the car.

32 Starter problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2019

Car keeps going dead after I have a new starter and a new battery. Shuts off anywhere and can be very dangerous.

33 Starter problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2019

The car randomly stopped starting. 95% of the times it works fine however sometime it won't start which is security risk to get stranded in case I am not closer to towing location. Took the car to dealership and they replaced it under warranty. They said its a known issue. I saw people having to replace the starter multiple times and Honda still has not recalled for that issue.

34 Starter problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2019

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, intermittently there was a grinding sound coming from the vehicle and the vehicle would not start-up. Due to the grinding sound, the fly-wheel was replaced after the starter had been replaced the third time. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the starter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was informed of failure. The contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

35 Starter problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2019

My 2014 Honda Accord car could not start without two or three attempts. On July 31 2019, I took the car to a Honda dealer for possible battery problem but was found that the battery was good. About a week after, the car was showing similar problems, I. E, by turning the key in the ignition, I was not able to start the car with the first and sometimes with the second attempt. On August 13 2019, I took the car back to the same dealer and was told by supervisor that the starter was no longer good so needed to be changed. This was after my warranty expired a little over a month ago. I argued with the person that handled my car that why the started could go bad while driven 30,883 miles only. The only advise I was given was that if I didn't change the starter, the car would completely stop from starting. So I decided the dealer to put a new starter with a total of $798. 25 price tag.
