Honda CR-V - Problems, Statistics, and Analysis

Honda CR-V owners have reported 7,355 problems for their cars built in the 21 model years listed in the chart below. The chart shows the number of problems reported during all service years for each model year of Honda CR-V. The 2008 Honda CR-V cars have the most problems reported (871 problems).

  Common problems of Honda CR-V

The following chart shows the 26 most common problems for Honda CR-V cars. The number one most common problem is related to the vehicle's air bags (1,747 problems). The second most common problem is related to the vehicle's electrical system (957 problems).

  Compare Reliability Across Model Years Using PPMY Index

It would not be fair to compare the older model year Honda CR-V to a new one in terms of the problems reported since older vehicles have been in service longer and more problems should be reported. In order to compare the reliability across CR-V model years, we use the PPMY index which is defined as the problems reported per thousand vehicles per Year. A smaller PPMY index implies a better reliability for the model year under study.

    PPMY = P / S / Y * 1000

Where P = total problems reported during the life of a Honda CR-V model year; S = total units sold of the model year; Y = years since the debut of the model year (the age of the vehicle).

The result is shown in Table 3.

  Number of Problems Reported During the First Year

Another way to measure the reliability across the model years of Honda CR-V is to use the number of problems reported during the vehicles' first year in service, as shown in the Table 4.
