Hyundai Entourage owners have reported 3 problems related to check engine light on (under the engine and engine cooling category).
We were recently driving on the high way, when the esc off and check engine light came on. My engine was was still on, but I lost acceleration and had to pull over and restart the van. I had to do this three times before the esc off light turned off and I regained the ability to accelerate. For the last two weeks every morning I will start the van and the same problem happens, I have to leave the van on for a few minutes and then turn it off and on again multiple times before the esc off lights turns off and I regain acceleration. This is dangerous since we're now afraid to drive on the high way and lose power.

My wife and I recently took a 5,000 mile road trip. The first 4,000 miles we had no problems. However, when we were about 900 miles from home, we started having problems. We got ready to leave the hotel one morning and the esc "off" light was on as well as the check engine light. You could floor the gas pedal, but only got 1,000 rpm's. The engine would run, but it had no power. I turned it off to go check it out, and when I came back the esc light was gone, but the check engine light remained on the rest of the way home. The first day this happened, we got to 250 before it went into coast. After that, we could only drive about 70+ miles before it would start coasting again and we would have to find a place to pull off the road, turn the engine off and then restart it. It would run another 70+ miles and would do it all over again. The tms light would come on intermittently as well. At one point, I called our local dealer and he stated that it would be ok to drive it home in this condition. The main problem was in big cities (finding a place to pull over with the traffic) also, there was a lot of road construction with one lane traffic and nowhere to pull off. You can imagine the stress we were under. The reason for this letter, is mainly to make you aware of the problem. Needless to say, it could have been tragic. But, we were definitely lucky and were always able to pull over out of traffic going 75 mph. Updated 10/20/11.
Vehicle surges, the motor will rev up and down between 500 and 1400 rpms almost stalling. When stopped at a red light or stop sign with the vehicle in gear the van will surge and move you ahead 2-3 inches with the brakes applied. The vehicle will surge at different speeds with it in reverse with no one touching the gas pedal. The check engine light has never come on. The van also will act as if it has no power or not getting enough fuel when first taking off then it will take off like its got a turbo. Its tough to drive this vehicle safely and it doesn't do it all the time. Also had problems with shaking in the front at 65+ mph. Put new tires on and it helped but still does it. The sliding doors wont stay open on any inclines only on level ground. The brakes have pulsated/shake since about 10000 miles. Had metallic rattle coming from front tires when turning but only does it on occasion, usually when turning and backing up. The radio volume will sometimes lock and not turn up or down. It carries a 10 yr, 100,000 mile warranty and contacted dealer and Hyundai corporate office and are unwilling to replace any parts saying no code and can't duplicate problem for the surging.
