1 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/19/2020

My gas gage started to work improperly. I took it to a mechanic I trust. He told me the fuel pump senders were bad. After he removed them he called me to tell me I was lucky my vehicle didn't catch fire or blow up! one sender has insulation broken and the wire is exposed. He also found that an internal wire was even worst. The protective connector was gone! that left those wires with no protection. They show signs of bad corrosion on both the wires and the terminals. They appear to maybe even have shorted out. They are black and a rust orange color. They are also pitted. I contacted Hyundai. They didn't seem to care. They were more concerned that I hadn't brought my car to a dealer for over five years. I explained that two different dealerships here in miami had cheated me and treated me badly. The representative was trying to insist if I had brought my vehicle in they would have discovered the problem sooner. That is just not true. They only way to observe this problem was to physically remove the backseat and open the floor to expose the gas tank and then remove the pump! they will not do anything! I have the feeling that they won't even report this to their own company or to you. I still have the parts. They were also not interested in seeing them or pictures. They just don't care! what if my car caught fire? what if the fumes ignited? anyone in the backseat would have been either killed or injured!.

Failure Date: 08/12/2019

This vehicle started showing issues with key fob not working - gas gauge not accurate next cruise control light on also check engine light pointing to bad fuel pump sensor units - I've researched this and this is known issue - my car has only 70 k miles on it and huyndai refuses to do fix as this is not a recall and car is out of warranty - I say this is known issue and huyndai should cover this as a recall - vehicle is now unsafe and can shut off at any time during driving. . . . Serious safety issue. . Read more...

3 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

The fuel pump and sensors went bad. The fuel gauge started glitching and going up and down randomly. After 1-2 months it was showing empty at all times. I changed the sensors and the fuel gauge went to the middle even when the tank was full. I had to replace both sensors and the fuel pump to get it fixed.

4 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/20/2019

Husband was driving my Santa Fe sport 2013 on the highway when the car just died, 97,000 miles on the car, no warning at all. No engine lights or anything. Took to a mechanic, said the engine seized and will need to be replaced. Also said there was no oil in the vehicle, even though it was not due for an oil change yet. He said they couldn't find a reason for there to be no oil, proper maintenance has been completed on this vehicle. Had it towed to the dealership, waiting to see if it is under warranty, but I am sure they will try to find a reason not to pay to have it fixed. Second problem with this car in the last 3 months. The fuel pump went out less than three months ago and had to be replaced. Will not buy Hyundai again.

5 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 11/09/2018

I own a 2013 Santa Fe and I have had several issues with it, the engine being replaced due to failing while driving on the highway, it was serviced with a few other items dealer found to be needed for some recalls. But none I can recall for sure was regarding the engine itself, will need to check service records. Then later it was the fuel pump(injector) need to verify specifics, but gas fumes and smoke coming from the engine and this was replaced, then later again had to take in again for repair due to service error of tubing being bent ect when installed, noticed the high amount of gas fumes and smoke from the engine and into the cabin. This was a few months ago, then Nov 9 2018 my car caught fire and was destroyed by flames. I had just seconds to pull the car over and put in park, grab my 6 year old son and get out before flames covered the entire engine then the entire car. I was in my neighborhood and pulled over on the side of the street. I would like to start an investigation regarding this matter, I fear I and my son could have died due to this known and neglected issue these Santa Fe's have been having. I have had the car serviced at the dealership so I will be able to supply the service reports and the case number for the williamson county sheriff report of the fire and other documents needed. My cell 512-635-4955 please leave a message if I miss your call and email instructions and or information needed to move forward.

7 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 04/19/2018

~tl the contact owns a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe. While driving various speeds, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the fuel gauge displayed an incorrect reading. The dealer (hatfield Hyundai, 1400 auto mall pkwy, columbus, OH 43228) diagnosed that the fuel sender assembly and fuel pump needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 156,000.

8 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 12/25/2017

Check engine light comes on, obd-ii trouble code p0087: fuel rail/system pressure - too low. High-pressure fuel pump failure and needs to be replaced. I experienced the symptoms of p0087: rough running, poor acceleration on the high way, and hard starting.

9 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/14/2017

There are two separate incidents where I experienced complete engine failure in my sante fe sport 2. 0t. Invoice number 359131 first occurred at 47,031 miles. On February 16, 2017 I was driving my vehicle with my son on the freeway when the check engine light appeared and my vehicle began jerking and making a loud clicking tapping sound slowing me down almost immediately. I lost power in my steering, vehicle was hard to maneuver. Hyundai attempted to repair the problem returned my vehicle and charged me partially for repair. Made contact with them about repair being a misdiagnosis as they first blamed the incident on air filter, serpentine belt, spark plugs, fuel injector cleaning, they replaced my fuel pump and engine block at no cost but charged me the other items. Work order number 201868 the second incident occurred at 50,897 miles on July 14, 2017 I was traveling across states from el paso, texas to colorado springs, colorado with my 5 yr old son and my husband. We were traveling north on highway I-25 when our vehicle began to lose power and starting making the loud vibrations and tapping sounds like it had done the first time about 3,000 miles ago when I had the engine replaced. We were over taking a semi truck on the road when this happened we were barely able to recover our lane and pull off to the side of the road as we slowed down almost immediately the semi was able to brake and avoid rear ending us. We were stranded in the middle of nowhere about an hour away from alburquerque, new mexico. This was terrifying for my family and I. We had very little time to react and find a safe place to pull over. I believe my vehicle was not inspected properly through their quality control personnel. If there is debris inside my engine and it has continuously presented itself it will eventually travel through the rest of my engine ex. Turbo seals bearings.

10 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/22/2017

My engine light is still on after replacing the fuel sensor 2 times and fuel pump I do not even know how much gas is in my car because the gauge is not correct. No matter what they do the engine light remains on it failed the e check ?????? there has been thousands of people with this same problem.

11 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/10/2017

There's been issues with the fuel pump and pressure gauge. We've already had this problem repaired 4 times and still suspect there's a leak somewhere. We can smell gas in the vehicle while/after pumping and after the car has been driven. Also, there seems to be an electrical issue with the headlights when pressing on the brakes, while driving.

12 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/01/2017

Gas gauge and light always on empty when tight after it is full of gas and loud humming sound from fuel pump. Stalled out in middle of intersection multiple times.

13 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/11/2017

Had problems with the gas gauge being erratic and my 2008 Santa Fe, hesitating when trying to accelerate. Had the fuel pump replaced at an after market shop that I have always used on on my vehicles, in April 2016 ($707. 00) and appeared to fix the problem. Here it is Feb. 2017 and are experiencing the same problem, but this time we were driving and the vehicle just died and could not be restarted. I hope it's not the fuel pump again. Can't find a recall for this problem.

14 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

Airbag light continuously on. Never had a problem before. Have been in an accident but cleared. Car was put back together and not on a salvage title. Fuel pump sensors are at fault. Need to replace fuel pump sensors. All fault codes appear when vehicle is not in motion.

15 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/05/2016

Engine stalls while driving at slow speeds and at highway speeds. Rpms go to zero. Been in shop twice - once cant duplicate problem, 2nd time replaced fuel pump near gas tank. Currently in shop for same problem.

16 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 04/24/2016

I have recently experienced a faulty fuel gauge, therefore activating the check engine light coming on. Vehicle has 107236 miles on it. I got on line and sought out possible info for this problem, and was made aware that many, many other owners of this vehicle were having the same problem. So I went to the Hyundai web site looking to see if a recall had been issued. There was none this problem appears to be able to possibly endanger human life, and/or injury. It is mine, and several other's opinion that a recall should be administered by the NHTSA to force Hyundai motor corp. To engage a recall for this problem, as this is becoming symptomatic from the facts that have been posted on the web. I, and many others would appreciate any assistance that you can give us in this matter, as after checking into cost of repairs, are quite costly, and the possability of a detrimental injury, and/or loss of life could occur!! the apparent cause of said problem, is a faulty fuel level sensor sending unit, and/or fuel pump. Thank you, sincerely, gerald k soileau.

17 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/26/2016

The fuel level sensor failed at around 55,000 miles, which resulted in the driver being unable to tell how much fuel was in the tank. Fuel transfer unit and fuel pump assembly had to be replaced.

18 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/01/2016

Around 90,000 miles my fuel sensor started not working the check engine light will come on and the needle will go up and down as well as the digital miles left on trip, I bought an extended warranty when I purchased the vehicle, but it only lasted until 80,000 miles of course. The sensor barely works and when it does it only lasts for a little while. I have to keep track myself of how much gas is in the car. I have seen several complaints about this issue and recalls for much less. I do not think vehicle owners should have to pay to replace these sensors and/or fuel pumps when this is clearly a defect by Hyundai. I will never purchase another Hyundai again.

19 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 11/28/2015

When I put gas in my car it will not start afterward. First it started only when my car was turned off. When I left my car running it was ok. Now it turns off when my car is running also. The mechanic said, it may be a bad fuel pump, cost $350 to replace, but can't guarantee this will fix the issue. I see I am not the only one with this issue. Why is this not a recall?? I google it and there are so many people with same problem. Also with the car accelerating by itself. I thought I was crazy. I see now that others are having this problem as well. Everyone said I imagined it. Why is this not a recall?.

20 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/15/2015

The contact owns a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe. While driving various speeds, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the fuel gauge displayed an incorrect reading. The dealer diagnosed that the fuel sender assembly and fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,000.

21 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

My fuel gage changes constantly. One minute saying I'm full, the next saying it is empty with the gas light on. Next the check engine light came on, brought it to the service center, whom stated that the fuel pump needs to be replaced. This is well over a $750 job and a known Hyundai Santa Fe issue. It is unacceptable that Hyundai hasn't recalled this part, due to the severity of this issue. This happens while being stationary and moving. It has been happening for a couple of weeks now.

22 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/20/2015

When the gas tank is less than half full, the fuel gauge displays tank as nearly empty and the amber low fuel light appears. The check engine warning light also comes on. The fuel gauge swings back up to nearly half full, drops down to 1/4 full, then drops down to almost empty, then swing back to half full. About 3 months after this problem started, the fuel gauge remains near empty with the amber low fuel light lit. When I fill up the gas tank, the fuel gauge is once again accurate until the tank goes below 1/2 full. However, the check engine light remains on at all times and can only be cleared by a mechanic. I've had my mechanic clear it twice. This is a fuel sensor issue with the two senders in the gas tank. I was going to have this repaired by having the fuel pump assembly replaced but found out it would cost $1000. I can't afford that so I'm stuck. I'm going to have to reset the odometer every time I fill up and make sure I fill up the tank every 300 miles. I've done my research and this is a known, widespread issue with the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe vehicles. I saw many complaints about this issue filed on the nhsta so this agency is well aware of the issue but has chosen not to recall the Santa Fe for the 2008 model year. I don't understand this: this is a safety issue as well as a gross design and manufacturing problem with this vehicle. We bought this vehicle used with no knowledge of this. The fuel gauge started behaving erratically a little over a year after we bought it in may 2014, which would be around late July 2015. He first sign of a problem occurred after I filled the gas tank in late July 2015. That was the first time the check engine light came on even though the gas tank was full. I had my mechanic clear it. This same thing happened about 6 weeks later. After that the erratic fuel gauge behavior I described started occurring.

23 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/11/2014

Car stalls without warning while driving. First occurrence was over a year ago. I was driving down i5 going 70 mph when the car suddenly died. I lost my power steering and brakes. I managed to coast to the next exit. It started after sitting a few minutes. And I was able to make it home. I've received codes for camshaft sensor, misfires, low catalyst. I've changed the cam and crank sensors, coils, spark plugs, timing belt and assembly, fuel pressure regulator and fuel pump over the past year. Still having the issue. Car drives fantastic for about 10 miles and stalls out. After waiting about 5 min. It can be driven for another few miles before stalling out again. Check engine light does not turn on when it stalls now. Very dangerous when trying to drive in town or attempting to merge into traffic. You never know when it will stall out.

24 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/01/2014

Fuel gauge has become erractic and causes check engine light to come on. Informed entire fuel pump would need to be replaced as sensor is a part of pump assembly, total cost $950. This is a safety concern, cannot tell how much fuel is in car. Recall should be issued as the complaint seems to be common.

25 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/14/2014

Check engine light came on and the reading came back as a bad fuel sensor. Sounds like this is a common problem yet Hyundai is not willing to recall. Despite trying to keep track of how much gas I have I did once run out in the middle of an intersection and was lucky enough to get to a safe location. Hyundai knew what they were doing when they installed these, there's non point in replacing it without replacing the fuel pump as well. This car has given me more issue than any other car I've owned. First a cylinder misfire which was a bad coil pack, then I had to replace a purge valve and now this. I'm selling it back to the dealership ASAP.

26 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 11/06/2013

The fuel gauge on dash has begun fluctuating wildly even with full tank of gas. No check engine light yet but based on what I have read I am anticipating a problem code coming soon. My research is pointing to the fuel level sensor attached to the fuel pump. However, only the whole assembly appears to be available and as such, it is highly costly to correct. Hyundai should provide a recall for this due to the huge number of people experiencing the same problem. It has also been noted that this has caused vehicles to stall while on the highway - this hasn't happened to me yet but certainly increases my concern.

27 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/24/2013

Check engine light came on, I took it to my mechanic who informed me its the fuel sensors. The one on the fuel pump and one on the gauge. My gas gauge will fluctuate to full then empty. I was told eventually the vehicle will shut down. Costs about $500 to repair. I just purchased my vehicle 5 weeks prior as used with 50320 on the odometer. I have a limited warranty through the dealer and an extended warranty as well. Neither warranty covers this problem. I am seeing that a lot of people have the same issue with these vehicles. It is a safety issue because you dont know how much gas is in the tank plus what happens if my vehicle totally breaks down in the middle of no where.

28 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/06/2013

Within the past week I noticed my fuel guage drop to empty and the fuel low light go on. I had plenty of gas knowing that I had just filled up the day before. I shut off the engine and when I restarted the engine the fuel guage went up to 3/4 full as where I expected it to go. Suddenly the guage was going down and than back up again. I pushed the trip button to see the range of miles to empty and it was also dropping and climbing. I seemed to work it's self out and was fine for three days. Than I was driving and the guage dropped to zero again and returned to 1/2 full, thats when my check engine light came on. That same day I dropped it off to my local Hyundai dealer. They were busy and looked at the car the next day. They tested the car and came up with codes that stated failed fuel level sensors. Replace fuel level sensors a and b. The replacement parts are as follows, qty. Of 2 #31115 packing fuel pump, qty. Of 2 # 31152 ring lock, qty of 1 #94430 sender assy, and qty of 1 #94460 sender assy . This repair at the dealer cost me 714. 39 after taxes ,code check and environmental fees. After I agreed to the repair, due to the fact that the car is only 5 years young. I was amazed when I researched this on line, that this seems to be an ongoing problem with alot of vehicles. How many cars have to fail before there is a recall on these sensors.

29 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

Check engine light came on. . The fuel sensor has corroded because of ethanol in the gas. Was told I needed to replace both fuel pumps for a cost of 750. 00 not including labor. I cannot get an inspection sticker because of this.

30 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

The paint is deteriorating, my fuel pump had to be replaced and my car won't start. I replaced the alternator, battery, crankshaft sensor and still won't start. I also have a break leak that I've tried to fix a few times.

31 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/11/2011

Engine stalled at highway speed. Fuel pump failure.

32 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

After engine is warm, about 20 minutes later, there is a gurgling in the fuel tank when the key is turned on (before and after the engine is started). I think it is fuel being returned from the engine. I have had it in two different Hyundai service shops, with the fuel pump replaced twice, and a fuel pressure regulator replaced. Having given up, both shops contacted the district Hyundai office and a field service adviser told the local shops to show the event as "normal". It is not normal and I think the Hyundai district office is hiding the problem. Could be a fuel system problem and could be a safety hazard if fuel starts leaking. Both local service departments now show the problem as "normal" and nothing more will be done on this problem. I believe a recall for this problem is appropriate.
