2014 Sonata limited. Headlights flicker when using left blinker signal. Sometimes go off briefly. Tried different positions on multi witch seems to be worse on auto. Vehicle will do it when stationary as well as turning. Research this and see this has been a problem on Hyundai models as far back as 2009. Son has a 2013 has the same problem.
I purchased this car October 2019. I noticed the led headlights were a bit dimmer and not as bright as they were with my previous car, which was a 2017 Nissan altima with led headlights. There is a prominent dark half moon shaped spot in the spread of the light on the driver side. Also, I noticed as time went on the headlights appeared to be shining closer to the ground and barely illuminating road signs compared to other vehicles on the road. One night I was driving in my neighborhood and almost hit someone walking because the headlight didn't shine on the person until I was rather close and the light finally reached the reflector part of the persons sneaker; I ended up having hit the breaks and swerve. This is definitely much more noticeable sitting at a red light while cars pass in front of you. You can see other cars lights shine onto the doors of cars crossing the intersection. Mine barely gets the door and seems to shine under a car, same when I am behind someone the lights shine virtually below the bumper compared to others than can shine almost directly to the plate. Also another issue I noticed is the headlights do not illuminate the house numbers on mailbox tubes, compared to my other vehicle illuminated these along with the street signs no problem. The dealership said my lights were angled low and raised them. This has shown a slight improvement. There is something definitely wrong with these headlights as other have said on here. Please have Hyundai recall this model before a terrible injury happens up to and including death to the driver and those with them and around them on the roads. Not addressing this seriously could lead to a lawsuit that will cost them a lot more money compared to finding a solution to the problem. Please have Hyundai look into this further and compare the lights to other cars in it's class.
This is a major issue thousands are having with this model 2014 Sonata. When using the blinker, it causes the headlights to completely shut off while driving. Soon as the blinker turns off it kills the headlights. Extremely dangerous and Hyundai seems to be ignoring this issue and pretending they're not hearing of it often. I've had to pull over many times until the lights come back on. Seems to be an issue in the steering column. Cruise control also decides when it wants to work. Sometimes on startup it works, sometimes it doesnt. I believe it has to do when the car is started. Something odd electrically with these cars. But the blinker/headlight issue is causing wrecks. This is wildly dangerous.
While driving at night there are 2 round blackout spots in the beam from the headlights. This is a dangerous situation as while driving it looks as though something is in the roadway. Very dangerous situation. Hyundai dealer said they have heard of the complaints but can do nothing.
While driving and parked the headlights will turn off when the left blinker is used. Headlights will also flicker and then the high beams will turn on randomly. Other times the lights will completely turn off inside and outside the car. Since this started my battery has drained on 3 separate occasions requiring roadside assistance.
On 7/15/2020, I purchase a 2019 Hyundai Sonata limited with 6,182 miles. On 7/25/20, I was out after dark and used my headlights for the first time. I noticed a dark line in my visual field and 2 half circles protruding from below the dark line while driving with my low beams on. I had limited visibility in front of me and was trying to look under the line to see better. I was also extremely distracted by the 2 notches, with the driver side notch being more prominent, as they move as you drive. This was not an issue once the high beams were on. This is my 3rd Sonata and I have not encountered this previously in my other 2 Sonatas. I took it out again last night and drove around my neighborhood to see if the notches and line were still there and they were. I also noticed that when I turned the corner there is a blind spot created by the notices and low visual line which prohibited me from seeing a man walking his dog. This could have been potentially fatal. Hyundai Sonata definitely has a design flaw and it's a huge safety hazard. I cannot help but wonder if this is the reason the car was already traded in. I cannot believe that it has not been addressed and remedied yet. Driving at night is more dangerous to begin with. It is alarming that Hyundai has been allowed to continue to manufacture a car with such a huge issue for a part as vital as headlights and no one has forced them to address it. I have no doubt there have been and will continue to be accidents as a result of this defective design. Distraction and reduced visibility is not something that a driver will get used to nor should they have to. Nhtsa please make Hyundai address this problem!.
I sent a notice before explaining what happen but I was mcdonald's line my car was in park and when I try to put it in drive I heard a click noise my car wouldn't move out of park and after holding the line up over an hour I had someone to help me move it. It was after 9pm so I had to sleep in my car until midnight waiting for help I finally was able to get the car towed to my home and it was a $90 fee I missed 3 days of work to find a local mechanic to fix it because Hyundai said my car wasn't under warranty it had expire so now I barely drive it but still have to make payment it still not fixed correctly now when I try to shift gears it takes a while before the computer reads it. My light issues in the car the front headlight keeps going out I spent over $100 in the past month. Nothing is showing it's over heating or melting I had to pay someone to look at it and they can't seem to figure it out this had cause me to get pulled over more than once because I work overnight. Please help.

Headlights flicker when driving and entire dashboard lights go out. this vehicle uses the same parts as the 2014 kia soul and this issue was resolved for the kia soul on technical service bulletin no. Ele093. a quick google search will show that this is a normal problem for 2013 Hyundai Sonata vehicle owners. this needs to be a recall or a TSB with owner communication to be fixed rapidly. .
Headlights on low beam make dark shadows on road. Makes it appear something is moving onto the road from side; swerved to avoid, almost causing accident. Blocks visibility of actual lane of travel; couldn't see pedestrian in crosswalk when turning corner. Significant safety hazard that could cause serious accident, injury, or death. Impossible to concentrate on roadway while driving, as eyes automatically follow the moving shadows, causing total distraction, mental fatigue, motion sickness. Problem must be addressed and corrected. This is not a one time thing. . . Always when driving after dark with low beams. Just now reporting.
The headlights on this new care have spots without any lighting. There are have circles without light and on distinct black line. Mostly with low beam. There are very dangerous blind spots. It is now at the dealership for the 2nd time trying to repair but the service man stated he did not think there was a fix for this problem.
I was driving home from work and then all of a sudden my headlights went out, so I pulled over checked my bulbs and they were perfectly fine not burned out neither was the fuse, I was stumped so I called my insurance carrier to have my vehicle towed home. The next day I called the dealership and they told me to take the vehicle in to diagnose the issue only to charge me $95 for a find of the wiring in the headlights to be affected , ive read online other consumers are having issues with the same thing not to mention the manufacturer having over 5 recalls for these vehicle which considers them as lemon vehicles under the California lemon law.
I have a 2018 Hyundai Sonata. I took it in for service because my headlights look like they are partially shaded and each light has a notch hanging down over it. The service manager told me the lights have an anti glare system and that's how they are supposed to work! this is a very dangerous feature. When I drive at night on a dark road I can see about 15 - 2 feet in front of me. This is an accident waiting to happen. Please do something.

Category: potential fatal. Low beam headlights on drivers side has a blind spot approximately 30 feet from front of vehicle obscuring pedestrians and on coming traffic from the operator. Blind spot is approximately 5 feet wide by 15 feet long and also with a minor blind spot at approximately 40 feet and to right of original stated blind spot and is approximately 1/5 the size of originally stated blind spot. This is a total of 2 blind spots, creating an unsafe driving environment with potential fatal consequences.
While driving my 2019 Hyundai Sonata after dark I suddenly viewed a rather large black mass and thinking it could be a person I jammed on the brakes. With the car now in parked status I realized that the black mass was created by the headlights a frightening event and if a car was in back of me a severe accident could have.
Airbag light does not go away. No accident. Headlight and brakelight burns out every 6-8 months.

The headlights keep not working. Sometimes I just have to uninstall and reinstall the bulb and then it'll work. Other times the bulb is burnt out. . I have replaced one bulb 4 times in 3 years.

I just bought this car and the low-beam headlights are set way too low and there is a definite line between the lit and unlit upper area. . It is not possible to see more than 1/2 of a city block ahead. It is a great concern to me because I could easily hit or run over something that appears to late to react to. I also live in an area with a very high number of deer accidents. I absolutely need to be able to see better at night. The high-beams are very good.
About March of 2018 I noticed my headlights started acting up. I would turn my blinker on and once the turn was complete and the blinker turned off, my headlights would go off. Very scary when it is so dark outside. It didn't happen again until about March of 2019. Now it happens all the time. And it happens when I am not using my blinker. I am just driving down the street in the dark and my headlights go out (even the indicator on my dash that tells me the lights are on goes off). I have to jiggle the blinker handle to get them to come back on. Sometimes they blink on and off as well. This is very scary as I go to work when it is still dark out. This happens every day now.
Passenger seat belt takes several times to remain secured and locked. Headlights are not positioned properly. At night the road is barely visible and could very easily lead to a crash if not providing proper attention and focus to road.

The left headlight has a large blackout area that creates a shadow on the road. When driving on any street and especially on winding roads it's very distracting and makes us think that there is something moving across the road. I am distracted when this happens and sometimes hit the brakes. The right headlight has a similar issue but not nearly as pronounced. It's an asynchronous situation with one headlight distorted like that. It's dangerous in our opinion. We don't drive at night mush and noticed this recently but were waiting until the first oi change to get this addressed.
Tl the contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Sonata. While driving at night, the projector beam headlights failed to illuminate the road. The vehicle was taken to nicholas parks Hyundai kia (1066 marina blvd, san leandro, CA 94577, (510) 347-3000) where the contact was informed that there was no recall on the vehicle and refereed the contact to their repair center. The vehicle was taken to the repair center where the contact was informed that the lights met Hyundai standards. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was operating normally. The failure mileage was 68.
Tl the contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Sonata. While driving 50 mph, the headlights flashed and the brake and reverse lights went out. The contact could not see the road and smelled an abnormal burning odor. The vehicle was taken to stanley parma Hyundai (7115 brookpark rd, parma, OH 44129, (216) 749-2525) where it was diagnosed that the knock sensor needed replacing. The vehicle was repaired five times; however, the failure recurred each time. The low beam headlights are useless can't see 30 feet in front of vehicle when turning can't see anything or limited in front of you. Have to drive with high beams on in order to see. Dealer says headlights adjusted correctly. There is definitely a problem. The vehicle is not safe to drive at night causing this to be a danger to drivers and pedestrians. When turning it's impossible to see in order to make safe turn.
When driving this vehicle at nigh, the headlight projection is so poor that visibility is restricted to about 40 feet in front of the vehicle. We've experienced numerous close calls due to poor headlight projection. Complaints on the internet echo our complaint.

Defective headlights. A black projection protrudes down into the middle of each headlight in the line of sight. Very, very distracting. Must use hi-beams at all times to eliminate this sight hazard, which then can become a danger to oncoming vehicles. Hyundai says "sorry about that, nothing we can do". They should at least be required to offer a replacement headlight, which would eliminate this hazard.
From the time of purchase in June 2018, the low beam headlights are aimed very low and project only 15 to 20 feet in front of the car. When traveling on dark roads, it allows for no reaction time to any hazards, such as animals our pedestrians. Hyundai claims it is designed to not blind oncoming drivers, but this poses a danger to the occupants of my car and anyone that may be near the car.
Tl the contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Sonata. On three separate occasions, while driving various speeds, the headlights failed to operate and then returned to normal on their own. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 48,000. The VIN was invalid.
Headlights project bright light about 20-30 feet out only up to about hood level then cut off in a straight line completely dark above that area and to the side. Two black out spots in line of vision make it impossible to see well enough to drive safely in the dark. After much online research have discovered Hyundai claims this is not a defect and needs no remedy. So very sad to see tons of complaints about this over the past couple years but not a single consumer rating recognizes this in any review. Has no one driven this car after dark until purchasing - which is too late. Extremely dangerous!.
Both headlights and break lights continue going out. First time I replaced the break lights, they had melted to the unit. I have had both headlights go out at the same time on two separate occasions. I have replaced the alternator twice now and it is looking like I will have to replace it again soon, headlights are getting dull (it's hard to see, and my brights won't click on (it is not the blinker column)), the battery has been replaced when the alternator was replaced as well. This is getting expensive. The dealership told me it was the blinker column when it was actually the alternator. Replacing the lights have been happening for years, the alternator problem started last year, so within 2 months of replacing it the first time, it went out again, and now 5 months later, it is needing to the be replaced again. It appears that it is perhaps an electrically issue since lights, battery, and alternator are going out.
