2 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 01/10/2009

My son's 2003 Hyundai Tiburon has the exact same problem as the current recall that is only for Hyundai's azera model (2005-08) which is a problem with the seat belt sensor that prevents airbag deployment. Why is their no recall on the 03 Tiburon's when so many others complain of the same thing on the internet??? it is expensive to replace the seat belt assembly (about $500) & I worry about my son's safety. He also has a problem with his turn signal not working & it is related to the body control module which the dealer wants $1000 to fix. Many others on the internet also complain & also no recalls on his year & model. My son has a friend with the exact same car that just paid the $1000 to get his bcm replaced. My son can't afford these expensive fixes. What gives that there is no recall on these two items when so many others have complained of similar problems???.

4 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 08/20/2007

Airbag light is on, I think this is due to seat belt buckle wiring issue, since light was going on and off for few days (and when I was moving seat belt buckle it was disappearing) I did research Tiburon forums and I see that most people experiencing same issue had their seat belt buckle replaced and light reset and that was it. Problem with me is that I'm out of warranty. I have called Hyundai affairs and reported this issue and they told me that Hyundai dealter may and most probably charge me for inspection and fixing issue, since there was no recall on my car. I'm afraid that air bag will not deploy during accident and I think Hyundai should pay for fixing it since this is not isolated issue. Many other Hyundai have same issue.

8 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2004 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 12/04/2005

My airbags blew in a very low impact accident (5 mph). My car was completely undamaged from the impact, with the exception of a broken license plate bracket and damage to my interior, caused by the airbags deploying. According to my automobiles user manual, the airbags are only made to deploy on high speed impact, which was not the case in my accident. I went through Hyundai's complaint and resolution procedure, because I felt that the airbags should not have gone off. I also took the car to my mechanic and a Hyundai mechanic, and they both agreed that, judging by the amount of damage done to the exterior of my car (broken license plate bracket). The airbags should not have went off. Hyundai claimed the airbags functioned properly, and closed the file. I started searching for a new dashboard, and I was told repeatedly that the airbags were sensitive and went off very easily. My personal mechanic stands firm that my air bags should not have deployed. There was literally no damage to my car from this low impact accident, except the deployed airbags and broken license plate bracket. All the damage was caused by the airbags. My mechanic and all the salvage yards I have spoken to claim the sensor is overly sensitive. Hyundaiã‚s manual stresses over and over, that the airbags will only deploy on high impact. When I called Hyundai to ask what the vehicle impact threshold level is for the airbags, they could not tell me. I did some research on the internet, and I found several other complaints about the airbags not functioning correctly. Hyundai should be recalling these, as they do not function properly, and there are many people that have had a bad experience with their air bags going off. . Their are a lot of people that have had to fork out money from their own pockets because of this, or have had to claim this on their insurance. It just is not right, and I would like to do something about it. Please help. Sincerely, tamara thornton.

9 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2004 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 01/22/2005

I rear-ended someone on an icy road going approximately 30 mph. My airbag did not deploy, but the passenger's did, with no one in the seat. Hyundai claims that this is normal- designed to deploy at slower speeds without the seat belt buckled, but based on the research done on injuries without a seat belt worn, I find this design to be faulty, or I must wonder if their claim is true.

10 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2004 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 11/16/2004

My 2004 hundai Tiburon was hit head on by another vehicle on 11/16/04. Both vehicles were traveling approximately 25mph. My passenger air bag deployed even though no one was in the seat. Driver side air bag did not deploy although the impact was mostly on the driver front. I sustained neck and back injuries in the collision. The car is at the dealer for repairs but I am not sure I will ever have confidence in the safety of the vehicle.

I was driving 35+ miles per hour and rear ended a large truck. The air bag on the passenger side deployed (no one in passenger side),mine (driver side) did not deploy. 2003 Hyundai Tiburon, causing almost $9,000 damage. Dealership towed to,elhart in holland mi. ,had no concern. Vehicle towed to denooyer chev. And the body shop manager, steve batts showed a great deal of concern. I contacted Hyundai complaint dept. ,and that person was non chalant about the episode. I still do not know if I have a deployable air bag on drivers side. Hyundai would not fix it! or pay to have one either put in or to even test to see if it was defective. . I am paying for a vehicle in which I am not confident regarding its safety factor. Perhaps this could be a recall. I have gotten no where at this time, and am filing a formal complaint against Hyundai and the dealership, elhart, who sold me this vehicle, sept 2002.
