I was driving on highway 26 west bound in oregon just outside of portland. My car has ecodiesel engine in it. I usually buy gas when it is about a quarter tank of fuel. I had about quarter tank of fuel and about 150 miles range left. I was on the left lane and traveling at about 60 mph. All the sudden my engine stopped instantly on the left lane of highway 26. All the cars behind me hit the brakes not to rear end me. My car's engine stopped and slowed down so quickly. It was scary. I tried to pull over to the right side of the highway. Once the car was parked, it said that battery saving mode. It would crank up but not start the engine. I called a mobile mechanic over. He checked the battery and alternator and said the battery is strong and no blown fuses whatsoever. He then went under the car and listen the fuel pump and said that it sounds very bad. He had beliefs that I had problems with my fuel system, maybe a broken fuel pump. He read the codes out of car computer and they all were related to the fuel systems. I started doing some online research and found out that Jeep Grand Cherokees has a faulty design of fuel tanks and if the fuel goes below the quarter tank level. Then pump does not work properly. Upon reading this, I called a friend who brought me 5 gallons of diesel and we put the diesel inside the tank and the car started immediately. I drove it to a near by gas station and filed up the tank full. I think this car has some sort of faulty design of fuel pump. It will cause a fatal accident if it does not get corrected by the manufacturer as soon as possible. When the engine stopped suddenly, the car actually swerved around little bit. This incident could have ended fatally if I was not quick enough. I am writing this to let you gusy know about this flaw about Grand Cherokee ecodiesels 3. 0 engines.

I have a diesel engine which has a very obvious lag in getting power to the transmission. This is getting worse and affects my ability to enter in to traffic safely. Even if I have allowed for safe distance to merge into a lane I never know if my car will speed up quickly enough so as to not get hit.

Pulling a small horse trailer and suddenly engine starts to knock and a couple minutes later overheats. Stopped vehicle immediately and had vehicle towed to Jeep dealer as parts of engine are under warranty due to other recalls. Jeep dealer says engine needs to be replaced. This is an ecodiesel engine.
I took the vehicle to towbin Dodge in north las vegas for a check engine light. Are used an extended warranty service to get the car looked at and repaired. The maintenance representative advised me that there was an open recall for the omissions on the diesel engine. I was aware of the eco-diesel recall and had decided not to take advantage of this recall. I was prepared not to receive the $3000 that diamond Chrysler fiat was offering for customers to get this done. I advise matt the maintenance representative not to accomplish the recall. When my wife went to go pick up the vehicle to our surprise the recall was performed. Matt and the service manager jesus admitted to their mistake of accomplishing the recall without our authorization. I have asked him to revert the software to the manufacture default and they are not able to accomplish it. I have spoken to the district service manager robert. I asked robert to buy the vehicle back for me because I do not want itanymore. He said he would coordinate with damian Chrysler fiat to see what could be done about this. I would like some assistance in coordinating with the manufacture of the vehicle to get it bought back.
Since the recall a year ago (spring 2019) the vehicle has a serious hesitation in the throttle response until the ecodiesel engine reaches full operating temperature. This creates a serious safety hazard. The fuel mileage has dropped a minimum of 4 mpg. I received a second notice (12/10) regarding an "approved emissions modification disclosure 3. 0l diesel" the local dealer was unaware and stated it was the previous recall. I called "fca" (Jeep) and was informed that this was the precurser to another recall. The only identifying numbers I have are "fc106038" and "****auto* for aadc 030 7/1/2" marked on the notice. This is a serious problem that needs a fix of some sort. The cure for the original recall seems to be worse than the original problem. The original recall repair was performed 9/17/19.
I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 3. 0l ecodiesel engine that had the approved Jeep v08 recalled installed. Since having a certified technician install the v08 emissions recall, my vehicle has been back to the dealer repeatedly to have the following parts replaced: 14 total fuel injectors, fuel lines (high and low pressure) from tank to engine replaced twice, fuel tank cleaned, def injector replaced, numerous sensors and the fuel pump replaced. Each "fix" works for anywhere from 1 - 6 weeks before a light comes on again and the vehicle needs to be taken back to the dealer. Each of these repairs has included additional charges that were required to be paid out of pocket. Prior to the v08 emissions recall, I drove the vehicle over 100,000 miles without an issue. Since the recall, driving habits have not changed, but miles per gallon have dropped 2-3 mpg. The dealer and Jeep have also indicated that since the recall was installed, the vehicle must be driven differently compared to prior to the recall. According to the v08 recall notice, Jeep promised the recall would not affect the way the vehicles drives and also would not affect mileage, which has been proven false.
While in motion, on my way work, my 2014 Grand Cherokee summit with 3. 0 l turbo diesel engine, 220 amp alternator and 49000 miles experienced a loss of power steering, battery light came on, voltmeter showed no charging of battery. My electronic indicator system stated the vehicle went into battery saver mode with a loss of abs, heating and ventilation, air suspension system, all safety enhancements such as park sense, no electronic transmission system changes and check engine light came on. There was a recall on gasoline engine 2014 Grand Cherokees along with others (Chrysler recall t36) and I have seen another complaint similar to mine sharing the same engine on this sight. I do believe this is was caused by catastrophic alternator failure. A new battery was installed and the battery light is still on and still in battery saver mode( an indicator also of no charging) and volmeter indicates no charging. I will be replacing the alternator tomorrow.
Failure of a heater hose while driving caused excessive overheating which led to engine failure. Dealer says that my extended warranty does not cover hoses therefore the cost of replacing the diesel engine is my responsibility. The cost is nearly $17,000. I would like an investigation into why the hose failed. Was it due to damage caused during previous engine work?.
Diesel engine just shuts off. Towed to the dealership: code p016f-00 was stored. But nothing was done to repair the problem as the car started by the time it got to the dealership. Diagnostics performed at kernersville Dodge, kernersville, nc 27284 336-996-4111 invoice: docs402929 invoice date: 05/15/2018.

I purchased a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 3. 0 l ecodiesel engine in September of 2015. In less than a year from the date of purchase, the vehicle had major repairs including a complete engine replacement and an exhaust system replacement. Based on multiple service issues with vehicles with this diesel engine, my local Jeep dealership does not stock or sell the Grand Cherokee with this engine anymore. Fiat Chrysler America has been reluctant to acknowledge any problems or be of any assistance in this matter with the exception of "standard warranty repairs. ".
On separate occasions vehicle had issue shifting from 1st to 2nd gear lurching forward even when at a stop and my foot was on the break. The vehicle also had three issues with the def sensors which were worked on or replaced three separate times. Since the last fixed was just done on or approximately around February 1st , I will be waiting to see if the issue continues. The latest issue is has something to do with the catalyst. It's having an issue sensing that the vehicle is creating enough heat to burn off by product. It is slated to be replaced within two weeks. I have been notifying Jeep about all of these problems. I have a case manager working on the problems. I have read several sites that show there is an issue with an exposed def sensor which Jeep is not acknowledging. It is the new eco-diesel engine.
Vehicle has had a history of unresolved electrical issues beginning at the time of purchase. In 2009, the ignition switch began to fail and the key fob was replaced. Due to a VIN number issue with a replacement program, Chrysler refused to replace the key assemblies though they were replacing identical assemblies on other vehicles that used the same modules. Several "reprogrammings" have been conducted to clear problems. Specific issues include: 1. Erratic behavior of electrical system that stems from the operation of the ignition switch. For example the engine will start but the vehicle will be impossible to shift out of park and the radio/navigation will not work until you jiggle the ignition switch and key fob. 2. Chronic failure of the electronic throttle. You can be driving along at any speed and you will lose throttle control. This has caused several near miss accidents. The problem is acknowledged by a check engine light and lighting of an specific idiot light on the dash. However, the lack of throttle response is very dangerous and can be restored by only stopping the vehicle and shutting down the engine several times to reset the electronics. 3. Chronic failure of the dealership to address proper correction of the electrical problems. Vehicle was covered by a full warranty and an extended warranty but these problems were never repaired. Due to sporadic and random nature of the systems faults, the dealership refuses to make repairs. 4. Dealerships unable to clear check engine light and blame issues on the fact this unit has a diesel engine. Local waterway car wash is refusing to wash these vehicles due to rapid and unattended acceleration issues which have caused accidents at their car washes. This problem can be documented by calling them by telephone. They consider the vehicles to be a safety risk. Please help!.

The diesel engine Jeep put in Grand Cherokees, the 3. 0 litre mercedes-benz engine, has a "swirl valve" problem and has since it turned 75,000 miles. It causes the car to not accelerate properly and is very dangerous when pulling out into traffic and going up hills. It also makes the gas mileage to plummet. Repairs were told to me by the dealer to be $5,800. We cannot afford to repair this car. The dealer told us the engine would go 300,000 miles, no problem.

Vehicle suddenly lost power (did not stall) while driving 70 mph on interstate i40 in a construction zone (no access to median because of concrete construction barriers). Engine power did not allow me to drive over 35 mph. Dash board indicator started flashing red (etc indicator: electronic throttle control). Several tractor trailers had to brake hard to avoid running into the rear of my vehicle. Engine is 3. 0l mercedes diesel. Problem appears to be a failed swirl motor due to excessive oil blow by from a defective intake tube with an orange gasket. This mercedes diesel engine was used in Jeep gr cherokee in 2007 & 2008. This particular problem was identified in NHTSA item #1006202 regarding mercedes vehicles but never to Jeep. This situation of loss of power while highway driving could of been tragic. This Jeep 2007 & 2008 problem is well documented in various Jeep forums on the internet. Why is NHTSA not doing anything about it???.
2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 3. 0 crd diesel engine. While driving the car began to run rough for just a few seconds and then abruptly stalled and would not restart. This resulted in the loss of power steering and power brakes while driving. I was on an incline (with a trailer in tow) at the time and was unable to move the vehicle until being towed. This presents a very dangerous driving hazard to the driver and the passengers in the Jeep and to any other vehicles nearby. The car was towed to the dealer and today (8/15/2011) I was told this is a faulty crankshaft position sensor. I do know of other 3. 0 crd Jeeps that this has happened to while driving. I have also read that other cars and trucks equipped with the 3. 0 crd diesel engine have experienced the crankshaft sensor failure. It occurs without warning and at any speed.
I am driving a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 3. 0 l diesel engine. Complaint: when I was driving on the highway in the left lane my Jeep stalled and as I was trying to change lanes I almost got hit. I lost power and it was hard to steer the car and ended up having to push the car with some help to the curbside. I was not able to restart the car. I know the Jeep has a Mercedes Benz engine just like other mercedes that now I have also heard 2007 mercedes benzes with the same exact diesel engine have already been recalled. Please note that Jeep, with the same engine is having same engine problem and please recall so that people are not in danger. It was a very scary day, I could have been injured or lost my life or my childs life or another family. This was very dangerous and I am not feeling good about this engine on the road. Thank you for addressing this issue.
After driving about 40 miles on highway, then turning onto local streets, all warning lights on dashboard lit up, message board flashed "transmission overtemp" warning, then "check gauges" warning. The vehicle went into limp home mode, no gauges worked, including speedometer. Once shut off, vehicle took a while before it would start again. Had vehicle towed to dealer. Dealer could not replicate or diagnose problem. I believe this is related to the crankshaft positioning sensor problem that prompted a recent recall of this engine by Mercedes Benz (3l crd engine). Chrysler would not acknowledge this problem.
Engine stalled while driving, and then would not restart. Fortunately I was going slowly approaching a traffic light or the stall could have lead to a collision. My 11 month old son was with me, and then we were stuck blocking traffic at one of the busiest intersections in town. I have heard this is a problem with my vehicle, the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee crd. We could have been killed had this happened on the highway.
My Jeep has stalled and lost power, putting me in dangerous situations. My Jeep has the same 3l diesel engine which has already been recalled in NHTSA for Dodge sprinters campaign id number : 07v594000 and all 2007 mercedes diesels. Nhtsa campaign id number : 08v006000. I have previously filed complaints. Please recall the diesel Jeeps too!! updated 10/08/0.
Vehicle stalled just as I was getting ready to pull out into traffic on 9/11/07 at about 3,300 miles. I could have been hit by oncoming traffic if it had stalled a few moments later. It stalled again 11/5/07 at about 10,000 miles after I pulled into a parking place at work.
Update of NHTSA odi complaint # 10203222 concerning 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 3. 0l crd diesel engine and electronic throttle control: vehicle was towed to selling dealer on 9/24/07. On 10/2/07 selling dealer technician changed crankshaft position sensor per manufacturer TSB but vehicle engine still would not start. On 10/4/07 technician changed fuel filter which enabled engine to start and run. Technician then confirmed correct operation of engine, cleared error codes from powertrain management computer system, and test drove vehicle for 10 miles and observed no problems. Vehicle was returned to consumer and re-entered service on 10/4/07. Investigation and laboratory analysis of fuel filter that was removed from vehicle are pending.
