1 Diesel Engine problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 09/13/2014

2005 Jeep Liberty with diesel engine. Original engine died with only 110,000 miles. Chrysler offered no assistance. This fall less than four years later the new replacement engine failed with only 62,000 miles. I was instructed by crysler corporate customer service to send car to Chrysler dealer before they would discuss my issues. The Chrysler dealer I was told to use broke down the engine only to tell me thier diagnosis is "engine is blown" crysler then refused to assist and I'm out $1060 for a diagnosis I didn't need. I knew my engine was blown the day it happened. I am looking for some assistance on repairs and don't think I'm out of line thinking Chrysler should pay for all repairs but I'm being realistic in thinking they won't.

2 Diesel Engine problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 02/07/2007

After purchasing my diesel Jeep I noticed a shuddering in the transmission at about 55-65 miles an hour. Considerably worse with you decelerate after acceleration. In a construction hold on traffic my vehicle idled for about 10 minutes. When I was cleared to move forward I put the gear selector in drive. The Jeep stalled. It took me a several attempts to restart the motor. I have done extensive research and have come up with one answer. Air is in the fuel. I have taken it to a Jeep dealer in ozark alabama and in dothan alabama. Chrysler tells them that the air in my fuel system is ok. I demand to know what is a safe level of air allowed in the fuel system. No one has measured the amount of air in the fuel system. Please tell me so I can have it measured because I have volumes. I am afraid it will stall out on me again. I have had a few close calls when the Jeep hesitated and choked after a long light and a train crossing,.

4 Diesel Engine problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 01/11/2007

Description : the vehicle is a 2006 Jeep Liberty 4x4 equipped with the 2. 8l crd (diesel engine). From an intersection at a complete stop, I proceeded to turn left into another street. I accelerated to approximately 15 mph when the vehicle suddenly lost. All power and would not accelerate. The engine began to hesitate and the vehicle could not go faster than 5 mph. It could only limp along at this speed while I attempted to get off the road. This created a serious condition for other drivers to attempting to avoid my vehicle until I could reach a section a that allowed me to pull-off the road. The vehicle then stalled when I came to a complete stop. I attempted to restart the vehicle after a few minutes, and it ran in a normal manner. I subsequently continued my trip without any other incidents. This is a very disconcerting defect because it exhibits no signs that allow the operator to take preventative actions to avoid possible accident during road use.

7 Diesel Engine problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 09/21/2006

1. Random event, vehicle start after overnight rest (min 8 hrs), cold start driveway. Not affected by ambient temp or season. This has occurred since vehicle was purchased new and randomly happens once per week on the average. 2. Vehicle started, either backed from garage or parking lot driveway , placed in drive and drive away initiated until stopped at intersection. Transmission locks up and stalls engine at /or in intersection. Since this is random , work around safety measures cannot be predicted to provide safe entry into intersection, hence sometimes we are in the middle of an intersection with a stalled engine. 3. Vehicle has been to delivered to dealership purchased from . There has been 4 visits/attempts to repair with no avail. Meeting with dealership resulted in dealership explaining they don't know what to do, nor does the Jeep tech rep "john stick rod", and they have no solutions from Jeep auburn hills service organization since they claim this is not a problem to their knowledge. We have submitted other internet acknowledgements of this problem to the dealership in order to educate them of the availability of this common problem on Jeep Liberty crd diesel models.

Failure Date: 09/15/2006

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty. In September of 2006, the engine module in the contact's vehicle was repaired under recall. After the repair, the transmission would not shift properly. The repair also caused the motor to rev very high and the vehicle to pull harder and idle. The vehicle would accelerate from 5 to 10 mph when the accelerator pedal was not depressed. The failures occurred each time the vehicle was driven. In snowy weather conditions, the failures worsened. 9 Diesel Engine problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/18/2006

This is a new Liberty crd (diesel) with 610 miles that was accelerating from a border patrol checkpoint on I-8 east of san diego. While accelerating to ~65 the vehicle suddenly lost power in heavy freeway traffic and slowed to 35 mph even though the engine was running good. This sudden loss of power caused overtaking vehicles to swerve violently to avoid an accident including at least 2 panic stops. When the vehicle was safely on the shoulder (engine was idling fine) the car was shutdown and restarted which apparently recycled the computer and cleared the condition. Vehicle has performed fine since that incident.

12 Diesel Engine problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 04/21/2006

I have had my 2005 Jeep Liberty in five times for the same problem. In each case there is a severe to very severe acceleration problem. In two cases had to have vehicle towed in because it would not accelerate at all, two times I had to baby the vehicle into dealership only once did I drive it in like an almost normal vehicle. Engine seemed to be running fine in neutral but seemed to be maybe fighting with auto transmission or torque converter to move. Dealership has replaced numerous parts on transmission, egr valve twice, reprogrammed something on torque converter and yet problem is still there on an ongoing basis sometimes slight but always apparent. One time it took me two minutes to get through a stop and go lights, that time dealership said computer said I ran out of fuel even though fuel gage said I still had a quarter of a tank and the week before I had run it to empty and had not run out of fuel. Vehicle currently stutters at about 55-60 mph hour and has consistently gets no more than 22 mpg even though it has a diesel that should get 26 mpg and it is all highway miles. Once when passing a vehicle it started to act up, you never know when it will lose acceleration. This vehicle is unsafe to drive and I have sent in a lemon law request which they acknowledged they received 10 days ago and stated someone from milwaukee office would contact me in the next two days or less but still have not heard from anyone even after I called two days ago asking why I have not heard from milwaukee office.
