Diesel Fuel System Pre-heater Problems of Jeep Liberty
Jeep Liberty owners have reported 7 problems linked to diesel fuel system pre-heater (under the diesel fuel system category).
#1 - Diesel Fuel System Pre-heater problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty
VIN of the vehicle was 1J4GL58526_. Today my 2006 Jeep Liberty diesel would not start. I discovered that the fuel filter had lost prime and there was diesel fuel leaking from the heater plug connector that is connected to the fuel filter housing. I unplugged the connector and noticed that the yellow plastic plug head showed noticeable signs of scorching (brown discoloration) around the pin holes. Also, when I disconnected the plug there was a hiss of air escaping from the system. No doubt this air leak is what caused my initial problem of lack of fuel pressure causing the vehicle to fail to start. However, the bigger concern here is that the system is leaking fuel and the heater seems to be shorting out its electrical components which is a very dangerous combination. This diesel fuel system pre-heater problem happened on Oct. 5, 2007.

#2 - Diesel Fuel System Pre-heater problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty
The vehicle was a 2005 Jeep Liberty. The VIN of the car is 1J4GL48535_. Leak from fuel heater electrical connection caused vehicle to stop operating. When the system is primed fuel is sprayed into the engine compartment. I talked to Chrysler and they said this was not covered after 36,000 miles. The electrical connection is burned and damaged. It was 09/13/07 when this diesel fuel system pre-heater issue occurred.

#3 - Diesel Fuel System Pre-heater problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty
Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is 1J4GL48555_. I have a 05 Jeep Liberty crd and the heater element in the fuel filter is leaking fuel from the plug and the plug is burnt up worried about it catching fire like someother crd Libertys have . . Will be bring it in to the dealer tomorrow oct 15 2007 . This diesel fuel system pre-heater problem happened on 10/14/07.
#4 - Diesel Fuel System Pre-heater problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty
The vehicle having this issue was a 2005 Jeep Liberty. The VIN of this vehicle was 1J4GL48525_. Fuel filter head unit heater electrical connection leaks causing smoke and possible fire. The failure date was Nov. 8, 2007.
#5 - Diesel Fuel System Pre-heater problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty
The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was 1J8GL58545_. I have a 2005 Jeep Liberty crd. The heating element and plug in the fuel filter assembly in my fuel system is scorched and shows signs of burning. The fuel pre heater comes in contact with air and diesel fuel, and scorching or ignition could cause a vehicle fire. I am concerned that the signs of scorching on my heater element plug shows that diesel fuel and air are leaking onto a potential fire causing electrical component. This diesel fuel system pre-heater issue occurred Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007.
#6 - Diesel Fuel System Pre-heater problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty
The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1J4GL48585_. The fuel filter head unit on my 2005 Jeep Liberty crd diesel has a defective design. It is a well documented issue with owners of these vehicles. The fuel heater in the filter head appears to overheat and cause a fuel leak. This causes a dangerous situation to occur as fuel leaks onto wires which are used to power the fuel heater. Once this leak begins, it introduces air into the fuel system which can damage the injector pump or cause a sudden loss of power which may cause a traffic hazard. I have taken pictures of the effected parts. This diesel fuel system pre-heater problem happened on Dec. 20, 2007.. Read more...
#7 - Diesel Fuel System Pre-heater problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty
The car involved is a 2005 Jeep Liberty. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1J4GL48585_. 2005 Liberty crd diesel fuel heater element is clearly a fire hazard. I see the investigation pe07041 has been closed. This is an error, I have seen on the forums many people with the same problem. Although mine caused a loss of prime so the engine needed to be primed every am upon further investigation I can see how this is clearly a fire hazard that I suspect exists on all of these vehicles and until a problem exists the disaster is just waiting to happen possible causing fires and loss of life. Suggestion-Jeep replace the element with a racor or similar unit that does not pose the fire hazards. I have pics I would gladly send you as evidence. I had to pay for the repair part but issue is of course this is the same unit that had the problem and only one available from Jeep. This issue happened on Monday, February 11, 2008.
