Car Accelerates On Its Own Problems of Mazda CX-5

On January 10, 2019, I slowed down in my local grocery store parking lot, going about 10 miles and hour, and was coasting into a parking space at about 5 mph. It was about 1:15 pm on a sunny, clear day. I was applying the brake to stop the car as I pulled into the spot yet I was going slow and coasting straight into the spot. Suddenly, the car sped up, the brakes had no response, and the car accelerated hitting 3 parked cars near the parking space. I did not have my foot on the accelerator, I had my foot on the brake. . . But more than anything, I had no control, it was unintended acceleration. Then the car stopped after I hit three vehicles and fortunately no humans. I was shaken, but no bags deployed. I have approximately 6950 miles on this car. I have been the only owner. I am afraid to drive this car because I am concerned it will do this again and I will be in traffic or near people and I could hurt or kill myself or someone else. There was no warning of any problem. I don't want to update my documents on the internet but will submit once I have an NHTSA employee reach out to me. My records include a filed police report, a report with Mazda corporate (as of today) and pictures of the vehicles which are available upon request.

Suddenly, the car sped up, the brakes had no response, and the car jumped over the curb and ran into two bushes. I did not have my foot on the accelerator, I had my foot on the brake. . . But more than anything, I had no control, it was unintended acceleration. Then the car stopped after I hit the bushes. I was shaken, but no bags deployed. I then moved the car off of the grass, and pulled the car around to the same parking space. This time the car stopped normally. I have 18,168 miles on this car. I have been the only owner. I am afraid to drive this car because I am concerned it will do this again and I will be in traffic or near people and I could hurt or kill myself or someone else. There was no warning of any problem.

2 incidents of sudden acceleration while making a right hand turn into parking spaces first on 5/18/17 and second on 12/15/17. The air bags deployed the first time but not the second time. The insurance company is ordering an engineer investigate since it occurred on 2 separate occasions.

5 seconds after starting the vehicle it suddenly went into unintended acceleration from 5mph to about 40 mph. I immediately applied the brakes but the car would not slow down or stop. I then shifted into neutral which did nothing, then shifted into park, which did nothing. Still applying the brakes I tried numerous times to shut (push botton) ignition off but that was unresponsive. I hit a street sign which slowed me down and the car finally came to a stop but the engine was still reving loudly for another solid minute. I again was pushing the ignition button and the car then suddenly turned off.

The contact owns a 2014 Mazda cx5. The contact stated that while driving 5 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated without any warnings. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 1,000 and the current mileage was 1,500.

While changing lanes on highway from a stop, it felt as though the car was in neutral instead of drive. The rpm increased but the car did not move. I have also noticed upon sudden acceleration from around 30 that I get a similar response. Mazda states vehicle performing as by design. Car does not seem to down shift quick enough on acceleration.

Pulling in to parking space with foot on brake. Vehicle would not stop and couldn't turn the steering wheel. Car suddenly accelerated and jump curb and ran into side of building. Brake pedal was hard to press and even tried pumping brake, but vehicle would not stop. Engine speed did not change when pumping brake. Vehicle was only three weeks old and had a major malfuntion with braking and steering.
