Mazda Cx-7 owners have reported 12 problems related to check engine light on (under the engine and engine cooling category).
I took my 2009 Mazda Cx-7 (108,000 miles) in to the dealership for an oil change and to see why the check engine light had come on. I was informed the turbo needed to be replaced and was advised that the car was unsafe to drive and that I needed to get a new car immediately. The dealership was hesitant to let me leave in the car as it could stop working at any time and because I do a significant amount of highway driving this is particularly alarming. No remedy was offered and I was told it wasn't worth repairing. This is a known issue with the Cx-7 and a danger to the driver and other drivers around when the cars stop working due to the issues with the turbo. A recall needs to be issued if so many people are having this issue with serious safety concerns.

Hi, we bought Mazda Cx-7 grand touring [VIN# last 8 digits: 70103229] used car during oct 2014 in fremont. The car had around 84k miles. We spent around $13k thinking good fit for kids school drop in short distance. Hardly used < 9k miles in 2 years. Timely service has been done. However, recently seeing check engine light on with code p0303 [engine-3] missfires. Replaced spark plugs, perform fluid system cleaning, replace throttle body spending close to $1500+. Check engine still stays on even after this¿. Now fremont Mazda dealer recommending to replace the engine [which costs around $9k]. Later did some study on web and learnt that Mazda Cx-7 is very well known for this issues and that is the reason Mazda has discontinued the Cx-7 model knowing internal turbo related issues. Customers buy cars based on search and reliability considering long term usage [like other cars which runs more than 150k miles] and not expected this. It¿s pain to see not hardly used 10k+ miles even after spending $15k. Mazda should accept their engine design issue and do some credit to lost costumer. To keep this customer [me] with Mazda, Mazda should refund the total customer expenses and allow him to by new Mazda latest version by paying difference amount. Have attached recent documents from fremont-Mazda dealer for your review and support. Highly appreciate your understanding and helping the customer. In the last 2 months I've had issues with the airbag system light illuminating on the dash and also the passenger occupancy light not illuminating at all. I then have a check engine light on and had it diagnosed and it is the thermostat that is not working properly. The tech at the auto shop said that this is extremely common with Mazda Cx-7. If that is the case, why has it not been recalled? I have read through hundreds of articles online stating the same issues with the airbag system and the thermostat.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Mazda Cx-7. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 86,500. Djr.

On my way to work I glanced in my rearview mirror and noticed white smoke coming out from behind my car. I looked at my gauges and noticed that my battery light was on and my temperature gauge was all the way on hot. Pulled to the side of the road and, as I pulled over my engine light came on and my power steering went out. I shut off the car and called my husband (who owns a collision repair shop and a tow truck) and told him to come and get me and my disabled car. As I sat in my car waiting, a police officer came to check that I was o. K. The officer sat in his car behind me for about 10 minutes and then backed out and left. Within a few minutes of the officer leaving a gentleman and his wife pulled over a good way up in front of my car. The gentleman got out of his car and started running to me shouting get out, get out, your car is on fire!? the gentleman called 911 to summon the fire department. As we waited for the fire department a highway patrol assistance vehicle pulled over because they had a fire extinguisher. My husband arrived and took the car back to his place of business. Our insurance was company was called and they sent a claims adjuster out to assess the damage. Our claims adjuster determined that the fire had started with the air conditioner and had caused $3,900. 00 in damage to the mechanicals of the car.

Mazda Cx-7 with less than 90,000 has engine light on due to bad variable actuator for the engine and bad oil control valve. I have had regular oil changes and maintenance. The cost of repair is $1700. Last year I spent $3000. 00 due to air conditioner and other problems with the car with less than 60,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Mazda Cx-7. While traveling 60 mph the contact noticed that the check engine light had appeared on the dashboard, seconds later the contact noticed that the vehicle had suddenly shut off without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact had the engine replaced due to the timing chain breaking. There were no prior warnings. The current mileage was 61000 and the failure mileage was 58000.
The oil light and engine light on my car came on the evening of June 8, 2010, and stalled immediately. That night I poured 5 quarts of oil into my engine. The fault was eventually discovered to be a missing gasket at the oil filter cap which allowed oil to seep out of the car nonstop since my last oil change. I do not understand why the oil light only came on after there was virtually no oil left in the car. If I had been on a highway at the time, I would have had almost no warning before my engine died out on me. Now, the entire engine has to be replaced because it ran for 2 miles with oil.
This narrative is about total engine failure in a Mazda Cx-7 2008. There were no indications leading up to the failure. I got regular oil changes well within the manual recommended 5000-7500 miles. One morning on my way to work, the car simply stopped accelerating when I hit a small hill. There was no check engine light, no warning, nothing. I drove the car immediately to Mazda service. As I was driving to the dealership, the check engine light did in fact come on. Upon looking into the problem, the dealership looked at it an determined that there was sludge in the engine and that the engine was destroyed. I had a warranty yet Mazda refused to cover it due to "lack of maintenance" from owner. I was forced to replace the engine and was told if I went the route of another engine from a different mechanic or manufacturer, that the engine would be branded. Therefore, I ended up paying $7600. Upon further investigation, I found story after story with the same plot line. This engine must be recalled. It is faulty and dangerous and Mazda refuses to acknowledge it for financial reasons.
2007 Mazda Cx-7 with 44,000 miles and the ac compressor locked up and left me stranded on the side of the road. Engine began to smoke and smell like burning rubber with no engine warning lights or signs of trouble.
Purchased vehicle in 1/2008. 2008 Mazda Cx-7 we took a trip from salt lake city, ut to las vegas, nv the weekend of may 1-3, 208. Check engine light came on, along with the at light when we climbed any sort of a hill on I-15 I made an appointment on may 4th the Mazda dealership (d. Dahle Mazda salt lake city) did the repairs when I picked up the vehicle, transmission was reprogrammed because the shift points were not correct. Mileage out was 10408 on 5/18/09 my wife was driving south on I-15 when the check engine and at lights came on again just north of mile marker 185. Smoke was coming out of the vents when she pulledover. Witnesses ran up to the car yelling for her to get out, the car was on fire. Drivers area was fully engulfed. Although she was not injured (thank god) it was a narrow escape according to witnesses contacted Mazda road side service they contacted steele towing. Flagged down two semi drivers, they got out there fire extinguishers and discharged them the vehicle became fully engulfed, and ended up having an explosion uhp arrived on scene (trooper derek spencer badge # 341 ) local fire arrived. Two fire trucks attempted to extinguish, vehicle was totally destroyed. Vehicle was towed to steele towing in nephi, ut met steele towing at 8:00 a. M. Next morning before the vehicle was taken to d. Dahle Mazda in salt lake city close to 200 photographs of the vehicle and spoke with the towing company. Contacted rob meyer general manager during our drive home. All he would say to us is to contact our insurance company. This is not an insurance issue. This is a faulty vehicle, a dealership, and auto manufacturer that will not honor the warranty and keeps directing us to contact our insurance company. I do not want to see this happen to another person. . This is of great concern towards consumers, vehicle safety and the unwillingness of the manufacturer in regard the safety of the public. Much more documentation, photographs.
