38 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2021

My wife was driving and the power steering failed. She could hardly steer to safety. Turned car off then steering was fine. The next day it happened again so we dropped it off to our mechanic. Today he called and said the entire steering column would have to be replaced. He informed us that there was a recall in 2016 for this problem with Ford and Mercury vehicles from 2006- 2011 however our VIN was not included. This vehicle has been kept in top shape and only has 70,000 miles. I feel this is definetly a manufacturer defect. We are planning to make these repairs but feel this vehicle should have been included in the recall.

39 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2021

Why was Ford allowed to close out recall 14s05 ? my 2009 Mariner was not included in the recalled vins - did Ford neglect to include hybrid Mariners and escapes that were built at the kansas city assembly plant between 2008 and 2011 ? I am looking at a $600 repair for a sensor that should never wear out - when nearly 3/4s of a million vehicles were recalled for this defective part.

40 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2021

The contact owns a 2009 Mercury Mariner. The contact called on behalf of the wife's driver. The driver was driving approximately 25 mph when the power assist failure occurred. The driver was having issues steering the vehicle. The power steering assists failure light was illuminated. The driver pulled over to the side of the road safely, and the contact met the driver with his car trailer and towed the vehicle home. The vehicle was driven to the dealer by the contact without the power steering. The dealer diagnosed a failure with the power steering and related the failure with NHTSA campaign number 14v284000 (steering). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The approximate failure mileage was 136,200.

41 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2021

Everything seems to be running fine except the power steering no longer works. The car was turning too the left going about 5mph when the issue began. The tool light on the dash came on when the issue began.

42 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2021

The wrench light on the dash appeared and the power steering shut off while the car was in motion. The car still operates afterwards, but the wrench light is still on and steering is incredibly difficult especially at low speeds.

43 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2021

I was making a left turn and list all power steering. Everything else seems to be working fine but I'm unable to drive my vehicle at all now. The dashboard shows the power steering assist fault warning indicator I've been told that the sensor needs to be replaced and that there are recalls for this for the same year vehicle but when I run my VIN number it doesn't provide me with any recalls for my specific vehicle so the manufacturer refuses to pay for any of the repairs. Now I'm left without a vehicle and my vehicle is how I make my money to pay my bills. The cost to repair is outrageous. I'm glad I wasn't driving any faster because it probably would have caused a serious accident. I did call the 800 number for recalls and I was told by the manufacturer that there weren't any recalls for my vehicle.

44 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2021

Suddenly the steering was extremely difficult to turn. I was in a stationary position and then tried to turn. Fortunately I was in a parking lot when the problem occurred. If I had been on the highway it could have been a very dangerous situation.

45 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2020

While driving a buzzer goes off on the car (usually indicates that I have to look at the dashboard for an explanation, e. G. Low tire pressure warning). The power assist for the steering immediately cuts out and I have to steer with significant effort. This is not a big deal if I am going straight, a very big deal when I am turning which accounts for almost every event. This event last 2-3 seconds and the assist recovers. There is no warning messages on the dashboard. It requires both hands to control the car for this short time - however at 30 mph the vehicle travels 50+ feet during this event. This happens every 2-3 months. . The date listed below is the last time this happened, I. E. Today while making a left turn traveling at about 10 mph and last 3 seconds - enough time for me to safely complete the turn using both hands.

46 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2020

Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated while driving about 35mph the power steering went out independently without warning. The contact stated she was able to drive the vehicle to her residence. The contact took the vehicle to sheehy Ford Lincoln of richmond( 10601 midlothian turnpike, richmond, va 23235) where the vehicle was diagnosed with an power steering module issue. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was told he would receive an callback. The failure mileage approximately164,000. Lj.

47 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2020

Last year in April I got the car , didn't have it for a week the power steering went out . I got it fixed . Here it is 2020 of August , the power steering assist came on . The steering wheel locked up on me . I don't have the money to keep replacing this same part . I looked into the recalls for the vehicle . I seen a couple , called a number I seen they said the recall expired. So I'm back to square one . I don't know exactly what part I need .

48 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2020

The power steering has gone out of my 09 Mercury Mariner.

49 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2020

Unexpected sudden loss of power steering while making a right hand turn onto major roadway causing contact with curb.

50 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2020

Recall has been done back 5 years ago and power steering is not working again. This seems to be a heat issue of poor manufacturing. They replace part however, safety issue has not been fix. This problem will continue unless Ford fixes the problem. The problem is a heating and compound electric issue and overtime will continue to fail and cause possible injuries and or damage. Ford only mask the problem with the recall and did not in fact fix it. The heat shield and part location is a poor design and causing a thermal brake down to the electrical components which causes thermal grease to flake away and therefore causes loss of communication to the electrical settings and therefore can't adjust the settings for power control. Please have Ford fix this part before someone serious is injured.

51 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2020

My daughter's car got a power steering error message and the power steering stopped working. The truck is un-driveable. I looked it up online and found: if a vehicle shows a history of a loss of the torque sensor signal or fault codes relating to the pscm when the vehicle is brought in for the recall remedy, the affected components will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on July 18, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14s05. It turns out that the warranty repair was done in 2014 and Ford feels like the problem was fixed. Obviously what ever they did did not correct the problem. The truck is unusable, the repair is $2000++ and Ford is not willing to help.

52 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2020

My SUV was part of a recall due to the electronic power steering failing. My SUV was allegedly repaired by the cheapest of the three available options (computer reset or some such process). I bought my SUV in 2020. The electronic power steering slowly started going out intermittently and then more frequently over time, but is now completely out. The dealer tested my SUV and stated that the entire steering column needs to be replaced. They claim that the problem has nothing to do with the recall, but I don't believe them. My issue is the exact same issue that prompted the recall in the first place. I should not have to pay for a failed recall repair. I think it's possible that the original dealership faked the repair, or simply chose the cheapest (but not proper) option to save themselves time and money. My shoulder is now damaged due to driving without power steering for so long. I need an honest evaluation of my vehicle and an investigation into whether or not the original dealer performed the proper repair. I would assume that the issue wouldn't come back if it had been repaired properly the first time.

53 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2020

The electric power steering on my 2009 Mercury Mariner hybrid has suddenly stopped working. I can't turn the steering wheel without great effort.

54 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2019

Power steering quit working. No warning lights. Went to store it worked came out and it didn't work. Has been 2 weeks and still nothing.

55 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2019

I drove my 2009 Mariner 45 minutes to a nearby city. After shopping I turned on the car and had no electronic power assist. I turned the car off and back on and it returned. I parked at the next store to shop and when I returned there was no power steering until I restarted the Mariner. It then worked for about a half hour on the drive home and cut out on the highway and would not come back on at that point. The next day it was fine. I did take it to a Ford dealer to check fault codes and recalls and there wasn't anything showing in the system. The power steering was working fine until a week later the issue returned.

56 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2019

My car has a electric power assist system code and I called and for my car it was not on the recall even though there was a recall 14v28400 in 2014 for 2008-2011 Mercury Mariner for this problem. I have no power steering now.

57 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2019

My 2009 Mercury Mariner has an issue with the steering. Sometimes it works but most of the time it does not. There will be times when it does work it will go out in mid turn and jerk the wheel straight, sometimes causing me to swerve into traffic or out of my lane. I did hear that this particular vehicle was involved in a recall but I was not sure how to get that information.

58 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2019

In sept 2016, I took my 2009 Mercury Mariner in for program code 13n03 because I was only experiencing loss of power while driving and the code p2112 showed up; I found out the dealership chose to initiate the recall 14s05 of updating the software in my vehicle even though I was not experiencing any power steering issues - no codes listed on my invoice. Fast forward to may 2019, my vehicle's electronic power steering has went out and now I cannot get it fixed because Ford chose to update the software when the only program I was experiencing was the throttle body. Now it is my expense to fix my electronic power steering instead of Ford because they chose to do another recall even though no codes were listed. When you take your vehicle to a Ford dealership, they decide to fix your vehicle how they want to - so now even though the 14s05 recall applies to my vehicle now I cannot get it fixed by Ford because they updated the software without actually fixing the problem.

59 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2019

My vehicle is a 200& Mercury meriner it has been stationary luckily when the power steering has stopped working. I bought this car used in 2015 and never received any paper work about a recall on the power steering. I have looked it up and there was a recall on them. I would go to crank the vehicle up and my wheel wouldn't turn at all. I have turned it completely off opened the hood took the battery cables off let it set for 5 mins and connected it all back crick the car and it would work however that would only fix it for a minute. This car is my only dependable vehicle.

60 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2019

"takata recalls" I have a 2009 Mercury Mariner with electric power steering on 03/31/2019 I want to a family dollar, in muskegon, michigan the power steering was working fine when I turned the car off, however when I started it back up a few minutes later; it was not working at all. That is a problem as the fuse and modulator are both good, I am sure this is not the first problem with that system on the 2009 Mercury's .

61 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2019

I purchased a 2009 Mercury Mariner new. There was a recall issued 14v284000. The recall involves the electronic power steering. The dealer claims this Mariner is not under the recall. I say it is because the symptoms are exactly the same as seen in the video describing the problem. This vehicle should be included in the recall. The power steering was fine when it was shut off in the driveway. The next time it was started the power steering did not work. I do not know the exact date of the incident so I will give an approximate date. I sold this car to my son. He is now the owner.

62 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2019

Loss of power steering 90% of driving time.

63 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2018

Steering assist fault indicator is showing on dash. Power steering is not working and upon research with mechanic Ford, Mercury had a recall 14v284000 on autos for years 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. I checked into the recall and was told my VIN for my car did not qualify. So how can Ford/Mercury put this recall only on certain cars (VIN specific) and my auto just happens to have this very same issue? why is my vehicle not covered? I am now unable to get my car repaired. Currently cannot steer auto with ease.

64 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2018

Loss of power steering while driving error code "power steering assist error".

65 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

The contact owns a 2009 Mercury Mariner. While driving 5 mph, the steering seized while making a left turn. There were no warning indicators illuminated. As a result, another vehicle struck the rear driver's side of the contact's vehicle. A police report was filed. There were no injuries. The vehicle was not towed and was driven to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

Failure Date: 06/23/2018

Steering became very hard and dangerous.

67 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2018

While unit is running on road engine still running car stop for absent of power but engine keep running, pressing gas pedal will do anything , you have to turn engine off wait and turn engine on back in order to kept driving , this very dangerous because this happens in the middle of the hay way at any speed , please consider a recall we almost get kill by a rear impact if we did react fast . Update does not fix situation, this a troubleshooting from factory and they now this very clear. This happens in hay way 147 going north to south at 9. 10pm on 06/13/2018 where we were driving speed limits of 55mph.

68 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2018

My power steering goes out while driving and sometimes fails to engage upon starting the vehicle. I can hear the sensor click on when starting the vehicle and if it doesn't click then the power steering doesn't work. I've contacted the dealership where I bought it and they say it doesn't apply to my vehicle although I match the description in the recall. The recall number is 14s05. I contacted Ford who said they already did the repair before I owned it while also saying the recall doesn't apply to my vehicle. Said the previous repair was only covered for 1 year/12000 miles. I'm having the exact issue as recall 14s05. I talked to gles in the phillippines call center. I asked to speak to someone higher up and they said I must send a letter to the main office in michigan. I've been trying to get some assistance and this and keep getting the run around. So here I am.

69 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2018

There is no power steering. Power steering assist fault comes up on the dash. There was a recall on this in 2014.

70 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2018
