The consumer said that he got out of the car to go get a hair cut, and when he came out the car was running although he had the keys in his hands. When the consumer popped the hood, the engine was running, and when he closed the hood it stopped all of a sudden. The consumer had no idea that this was going to happen. The consumer saw on cnn news about Ford. The consumer had become concerned and wanted someone to help him. The dealer said that they could not find anything wrong with the car. The manufacturer said that the car was not on recall. The caller was very concerned because he needed the car and wanted someone to help him. The problem may be due to the cruise control switch. This engine problem happened on 05/02/2003.

The vehicle is a 2002 Mercury Sable. 2002 Sable sl -purchased may 2005 - w/14,000 miles- Nov. Drove on freeway- exited to restaurant- with in 4 minutes of exiting car front end was engulfed w/flames reaching into dash- fire dept. On seen- when car was placed on tow 5 minutes later car started fire again- had to get fire dept. Again- engine completely melted- tow yard and varsity dealer rep. Stated a very suspicious fire seeing there is only 16,000-17,000 miles. Ford will not investigate and refuses to give me an answer to why and how I almost died in a severe car fire - there is not much left to the vehicle- it is sitting at stu evans Ford Mercury, garden city, michigan- your help would be greatly appreciated. I only had limited insurance and could not afford fire and theft for I just graduated from college trying to find a job. 1 week before this incident I retained a job and now have no vehicle. My mother purchased it for 12,000. 00 for a grad. Gift for me so I wouldn't have a car payment to worry about. Now I have nothing. The car was running fine, no noises or anything,. An oil change was done 4 weeks prior to the incident. It was Sat., Nov. 12, 2005 when this engine issue happened.

The car was a 2001 Mercury Sable. The VIN of this Sable is 1MEHM55S91_. No real signs of distress until the main bearings failed. At 33,000 miles, proof of service and oil changes covering the first 29,000 miles. Vehicle developed a bad knock. Had it towed to a Ford dealership for inspection. Told me that the main bearings on the cam went bad. One Ford dealership tells me Ford will help with the cost of total engine replacement, unfortunately, not the dealership the car is at. It was 05/21/2006 when this engine issue occurred.

#4 - Engine problem of the 2001 Mercury Sable
The vehicle is a 2001 Mercury Sable. 2001 Sable with 57000 miles. Vehicle will start, kill and then cannot be restarted for at least 1/2 hour. Sometimes will not start at all. Service people have hooked up to sensors but cannot find what is wrong. Problem is sporadic, happening about 1 to 2 times per week. Scoped fuel pump but said it was working properly. Said fuel filter and all other systems checked out ok. Don't know what to do next. Feel uneasy about driving the car anywhere far from home. This problem occurred on Oct. 24, 2009.

My 1998 Mercury Sable with 3. 0 liter engine apparently is designed to provide no engine braking when coasting. The engine computer prevents the engine from returning to idle. Other have told me that this occurs with other Ford taurus' and Sables. This condition results in excessive speed building up when going downhill - especially with the cruise control engaged. This issue happened on 03/15/2004.

The car is a 1996 Mercury Sable. : the contact stated while driving various speeds, the steering wheel was difficult to turn. The vehicle was inspected by an independent repair shop who determined the engine mount and carriage frame rusted which caused the engine to slip from the mount. The vehicle was exposed to extreme winter weather and road salts. The repair shop concluded that a piece of steel needed to be added to each side of the engine mount to correct the problem. The manufacturer was not alerted. This issue happened on May 1, 2006.
