I was driving on a road going appx 35 mph. Stopped at a traffic light, and my engine shut off and my car drifted. The brakes wouldnt even work. My radio and lights remained functional. I turned the car off and restarted it and when I put it in drive or reverse, it shut down again. The engine only stayed on in neutral or park.

Takana inflators. Radio goes on and off when I turn it turns on and stays on for a few seconds then shuts off.
One day I was driving on the freeway when my car started accelerating on its own, then slowing down a lot. At one point I had to pull over on the side of the freeway bc the car just wouldn't accelerate even with the gas pedal all the way to the floor. We stayed there for a bit waiting for a tow truck. The car decided to work again to we sped out of there and made it home. The next day I contacted Nissan and told them the situation and they said there was a recall on the transmission and to take it I. To a dealership to the can so a thing they call cvt reprogramming. So I did the next day. The tow truck came and picked it up, took it to the dealership and supposedly they fixed it. So I went to go pick up the car, and at first it was fine, it was jerking just a little but I figured it was because of the reprogramming, the car was still adjusting. Then I got to my first stop light and when the light turned green the car would not go anywhere then is started goi g really really slow and then all of a sudden it accelerated so fast it was scary. I made it about 10 mins out when I decided it needed to go back bc it was definitely not fixed. On the way back I almost got in a terrifying accident and almost didn't even make it. I was at a stop sign waiting to go onto a 2 way street with no other stop sighs. The car was doing just fine so I went for it and in the middle of both streets the car slowed down quite aggressively & there were 2 cars headed taped me on full speed from opposite directions. Terrifying. Eventually I made t back and the guy helping me was so helpful. Gave me a rental and everything. The next day he call and says I need a new transmission and it was going to be $3600. So I contacted consumer affairs to see what they can do bc it's not fair that I have to pay for their mistake. And now they won't contact me back and I have no ode whats going on with my car.
My wife was driving our Nissan Altima 2015 in CA when the car without warning stalled in the middle of traffic . She had driven two blocks when this happened. The steering wheel locked and the car was not responding. The battery was apparently working because the radio was still working. She of course could not move out of the lanes.

The factory sound system face plate is blistering. This may be caused by radio overheat or some type of short. The radio works fine.

Merry christmas Nissan! thanks for making it a memorable one. I drove to a relatives home the day after christmas. The car was parked on a city street. When I went to leave, the car would not start or do anything. A yellow key symbol appeared. The car would not start, nothing was happening. The brake was very stiff. No ability to shift. No radio or dash lights would work. I had to have the vehicle towed to a local Nissan dealership. Electronic steering lock failure at a cost of $900. 00. I was then told by Nissan dealership that Nissan was well aware of the issue and they had added an extended warranty to fix the bad part but it had expired earlier in 2015. I only went to dealership 3 times with sterring lock issues previously only to be told that it was my fob not the steering lock. I have 2 fobs and questioned how 2 would be having issues. Never a good answer or option. Never was I told there was bad part that was covered under warranty! shady business, the part should be recalled for safety and negligence. What if it stopped working and locked while I was actually driving? I travel for work and what if it stopped in a bad area leaving me stranded? what if it was extreme cold or heat? the issue is that Nissan knows about a bad part but have left customers to pay $900 to fix their bad part leaving people in danger. There are countless stories online about this same issue. Nissan changed the part in approx 2010. They need to own their mistake and stop leaving people stranded in harms way. I don't understand why Nissan is allowed to make a bad part, know that the bad part will disable the car and leave people stranded without any notice. The consumer gets insult to injury and has to pay for Nissan's mistake at a $900. 00 cost. Again, merry christmas Nissan.

Never received any information on a navigation software update recall or a secondary hood latch problem until I brought the car in to the dealer to ask why the radio and navigation system were not working properly.
When I tried to turn vehicle on, radio and other system was on, but could not put car in gear, eventually car had to be towed. The dealership advised me that the bcm has an internal short and needed to be replaced. This vehicle was bought brand new and has under 52,000 miles, has not been owned for even 2 years and it breaks down with no one taking responsibility on this issue on a semi new vehicle. My sister owns the same vehicle and I am afraid that it will happen to her too. I have done some research and found numerous boards with people complaining about this issues or something similar.

Radio/navigation reboots while driving down the road. Whole system shuts down--no radio. Sometimes when I start the car, the radio buttons are dim/grayed out and the radio doesn't play.
The dashboard is melting, soft to the touch, easily damaged. First noticed when I attempted to remove the trim around the radio to replace it because the display in unreadable when it's hot. When I did so, the dashboard seemed sticky and started breaking apart while trying to pry off the trim. I purchased specific tools for removing trim without damage but the dash is still too soft and sticky. So to replace the defective radio that Nissan says is not covered in the warranty I would destroy the dash causing a replacement of thousands. Also, I'm afraid that the plastic is so soft and sticky that in case of an accident, would the air bags deploy properly.

Hello,my question pertains to the Nissan Altima and maxima. May I preface my statements with the fact that I owned a 2005, 2009 and 2011 Nissan Altima and while I traded my last one in for a different make, I had very much enjoyed the vehicle until I found out there was a dangerous flaw in the Altima and, I was told by Nissan, the maxima. In my 2011 Altima, a serious panic stop, locking up the brakes, caused my vehicle to not move for 3-5 seconds. This happened several times and I had my local dealership look at the vehicle each time and each time I was told there was nothing wrong with the car but it reoccurred . After responses from the dealership went nowhere, I called the main Nissan customer service line and was told that the problem was in the transmission of both vehicles. The special seamless transmission will cause a 3-5 second delay after a panic stop but it was normal for that type of transmission. When I asked what to do if that occurred on a freeway with a truck barreling down on me they had no answer. Not satisfied with that response I called a local radio auto talk show and was referred to a local auto shop as he had never heard of that specific problem. The local auto shop checked the vehicle and also said there was nothing wrong with the car but when I took the owner of the shop out he experienced it. His response was that this was the first time he had heard and experienced it but unless there were a lot of complaints for that specific problem nothing would happen. I now throw out this issue to you. Has this been a reported issue? is it still a problem? after my experiences I felt very unsafe in the car. We won't go into the response I receive from Nissan customer service or that lemon laws do not apply to this issue since the vehicle was deemed okay and nothing fixed. My writing to you is because these models received awards for safety.

My trunk latch will randomly pop open. The first time was while driving in a residential neighborhood. The second time, I came out of a store to find my trunk open. It keeps popping open every time I drive now. It's very dangerous on the highway to suddenly have your trunk fly up blocking your view to the traffic behind you. I have jimmy rigged it with a bungee cord inside so that it only pops up about an inch or two when the latch pops. I would just duct tape it, but I need access to my daughter's stroller. I also unplugged the interior trunk light so that my battery would not be worn out. The weird thing too is that the door open light did not go on when the trunk opened. Hoping my husband can fix this during the weekend.

I replaced the radio in my 2007 Nissan Altima and when I did the dashboard around the radio completely crumbled. This is when I realized that my dashboard was melting. My whole dashboard is melting. This is starting to affect my driving abilities because its so shiny that it reflects in my window and makes it hard to see.

I hear a vibration coming from outside of my drivers door at highway speeds. I took it back to the dealer and the first time they told me they could not reproduce the problem(even though I knew when I dropped this car off that there is a service bulletin for this exact problem). I told them this when I picked it up and they told me they didnt have the parts yet. It kept making the noise while driving so I brought it back the second time and they said they completed the service bulletin by installing some double sided tape. Now just over a week later I am hearing the noise still.
Purchased my 2012 Nissan Altima coupe 8/2/2012. In just over 30 days the paint was coming off the rear bumper on both sides near the rear tire where the bumper meets the body of the car. Took the car in to have the bumper repainted. Within 60 days the paint was coming off in the same place again. Took the car back last month and was repainted with 3 flaws. . . Needless to say it has to go back yet again!! also, within a few days of purchase I noticed that the radio would not pick up local radio stations without a lot of static and interference. Only 1 out of 12 presets do I get on a consistant basis and I only drive within a 25-30 mile radius of my home. Took to the dealer and they said it was because of the window tint. Gave them information from 3m that the tint would not interfere with the radio and then they said they didn't hear it. Taken back on several occaisions and no resolve. Noticed 3/17/2013 that my leather wrapped steering wheel has split in the grain of leather and it is right where my right hand goes to drive. Transmission is not consistant. . . When I let off the gas briefly it is as if someone has hit the break pedal and the car "draws back". . . Very annoying!!! I also purchased xzilon paint protection system at the dealers recommendation because the car is black and I live in FL. . . Now 7 months later this protectant has completely ruined the paint on my car and shows horrible marks on the hood and leaves terrible water spots on the vehicle that are almost impossible to remove. Taking to the dealer for the new paint issue tomorrow. I am hoping to just trade in and get another car. . . Unfortunately under the circumstances it will be a Nissan. . . But will not be an Altima!.

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Altima. The radio and cd player began working intermittently and then stopped working entirely. When the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, she was advised to go to another repair shop. She was informed that the fee to repair the radio and cd player would be free; however, she was charged $185. 44. The contact took the vehicle to Nissan and they were equipped to perform the repair, but the dealer from where the vehicle was purchased, has yet to diagnose the failure. They could only inform her that the failure was internal. The powertrain and failure mileage were unknown. The current mileage was 47,135. Updated 3/5/08
the dealer stated rear window operates really slow, and pillar/roof keeps coming a loose. Updated 03/05/08.

2006 Altima 2. 5 s that is a lemon customer wants to have the car replaced under the lemon law*
the consumer stated the vehicle has no start problem. The vehicle would start up when she began her day, but at unpredictable times. There is a grinding noise under the gas pedal while accelerating as well as when coming to a stop. The dealer stated the vibration/grinding noise was coming from the tires. All the windows and doors will lock and the remote keyless entry does not seem to work. The cd player and radio are not playing properly. The radio has a lot of static. The cd player makes the cd's sound like they are scratched.

2005 Nissan Altima - the radio produces an acceptable sound but the face plate lacks sufficient luminosity & contrast for the information to be seen. Typically, it is impossible to read the display while driving as you must face directly in-line with the unit. Nissan was contacted 3/4/05 and acknowledged there were problems and that they were the result of the radio being located too high resulting in sunlight "washing" out the display. I stated the problem exists at night as well and a contrast/illumination adjustment would help. I asked Nissan to replace the radio with a different unit and they refused but indicated there would be a redesign in 2006.
I bought my 2005 Altima may 3, 2005, since the purchase I have had nothing but problems with the radio. If you put on the rear defroster the radio goes to 100% pure static. Also when I brought the car into gregoris Nissans svc dept they told me that they may have to replace my rear window! the other problems that I have been experiencing with this car is you can not read the display of the radio when it is sunny out. Also I have a rattle in the drivers side door when the radio is on. I was told it was my speaker and they would order me one. First of all it's not the speaker it is the door! I am done with Nissan and their products. If anyone can help me I would appreciate ak.
The car radio for the 2005 Nissan Altima is defective. I spoke to Nissan directly after the dealer couldn't fix it. I was given case # 4564607 on 6/8/04 when the car had 2,650 miles on it. They said that Nissan was redesigning the radio with its engineers + would have it in a month. It's now 7/25/04 + I haven't heard anything. I still have a defective radio on a brand new car.
My 2001 Nissan Altima, with approx 89000 miles, has started experiencing engine failure at cruising speeds (50-70 mph) on the freeway. It is intermittent with no apparent warning. First, all guages, including gas, temperature, rpm and odometer, fall to zero. The car jerks as if downshifted, and slows drastically, and the gas pedal does not accelerate the car. It has happened 7-8 times in the past few weeks. The radio display light also blanks out, not sure if this is related or a separate problem.

Airbag warning light goes off - dealer orders new airbag module and combination must be replaced. Has happened at 600 mile and again at 3700 miles , still not repaired- parts are on nation wide back order - major safety factor: ignition noise and static in radio from coils.
