5 Frame And Members problem of the 2000 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 11/26/2010

I recently had my transmission fluid changed (Nov. 2010) on my 2000 Nissan Maxima se and was told that the radiator support is corroded with rust due to very poor quality. I was told by the auto mechanic that this shouldn't be happening and that it was a safety hazard since this could result in the engine or transmission falling out of the vehicle. I was told to file a complaint since this problem is happening with many Nissan Maximas.

9 Frame And Members problem of the 2000 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

I have a model year 2000 Nissan Maxima. I also owned a 1990 Nissan Maxima and a 1998 Nissan Maxima all with the same exact problem. The radiator support rusts out completely and its not due to radiator failure or accident damage. The undercarriage of these cars need to be better protected from the weather or better quality parts need to be used. But specifically the radiator support systems in these Maximas are of very poor quality. Failure of these parts would result in the engine and or transmission falling out of the vehicle which is a serious safety issue.

10 Frame And Members problem of the 1997 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 08/09/2010

Lower radiator support which supports radiator and front engine mount, rusts completely through. Common problem (according to various on-line sources) from 1995-2001 Maxima models driven in the salt belt states. Repair can be extensive to replace entire front radiator engine frame structure. Some shops are replacing rotted section with a piece of angle iron and drilling holes to remount front engine mount.

11 Frame And Members problem of the 1999 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 05/31/2010

I am a Nissan technician, and I have become concerned with the amount of fourth generation (1995-1999) Maximas I have seen with substantial radiator support rust. This of course creates a dangerous situation with the crossmember, which attaches to the support to form the lower engine cradle. In many instances, the rust gets so bad the crossmember drops and causes a very real danger for drivers, and others -- if the crossmember were to get caught on the edge of a nasty pothole as the car goes over, an accident is guaranteed. The easy way to fix it is to bring these cars back, and just section in a piece of good steel, tap it, and bolt the crossmember back up, and undercoat the repaired area. This issue can be rectified, and many cars can be saved from the scrap heap, for this problem is enough to render an otherwise trouble-free car unfit for the road. I hope this issue is considered, and acted upon by NHTSA & Nissan, since it occurs only in conditions of high salt\calcium winter roads. I am not aware of this issue occuring outside of what is termed the rust belt - so its not as if an exorbitant number of cars would require repairs.

12 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 04/01/2010

I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima with 50,008 miles on it and recently had the abs coming on while I was driving and no dash warning lights on, brought it to the dealer to find out that the right rear abs speed sensor went bad but why didn't any warning lights come on they pulled the abs fuse and now the warning lights are on but you absolutely can not stop the vehicle when this happen this imagine hitting the brakes at 55 mph with your two year old in car and its not stopping because when you abs sensor goes bad it turns on the abs which does not allow your normal brakes to operate and do not throw any of your dash lights on, if I had the money for a lawyer I would be going after Nissan right now it should work so if you have a problem with your abs it should turn at least your warning lights and then disconnect the abs so you can use your normal brakes to actually stop the car. . . . . Also none of the front end and rear end body lines match up to none of the gaps between hood and fenders are the same can get finger in one side and not the other same with the trunk, and the car has only been in one accident that I know of that I reported had gotten side swiped at 45 mph on drivers side by big truck also notice that front and rear windshields do not have Nissan stamp on windows the car fax was clean well the on the dealership I bought car from was clean I think this car was wrecked front and rear and fixed and wasn't reported then sold to me with 26,800 miles when I bought it no sits at 50,000 cause have nothing but problems with I would like a state inspector to look at car my opinion is car is unsafe but only one I have and still owe more than 10,000 dollars on it please help.

13 Frame And Members problem of the 2001 Nissan Maxima

15 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 05/15/2007

I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima. After having brake work done several times, the real problem was diagnosed. There is a problem with the struts. Both front struts need to be replaced. Car has 72,000 miles and has been very well taken care of. This is not normal wear and tear and it is a serious problem. The steering wheel shakes, there is a squeaking sound, and car sometimes seems to pull to one side or the other. Nissan has said that they will assume no responsibility. As a consumer, I respectfully ask that you look into this matter.

17 Frame And Members problem of the 2005 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 10/10/2006

Our vehicle has been back to Nissan on 5 different occasions for the same issue. The vehicle was not put together correctly in the factory and has subsequently been re-welded two separate times in two separate locations on the vehicle. Nissan sent a representative out on our request to attempt to repair the issue when the dealer had no idea what to do. The vehicle now has two button welds on either side of the car to alleviate the frame from rubbing/instability. The car is currently back in the shop (2 weeks later) for additional concerns that were to be addressed at the time of our last service (March 30, 2007), but were not. Unfortunately this is not the only time we have experienced significant concerns about the vehicle, which has had issues with the rotors, muffler and suspension, in addition to the rear subframe recall and latch system recall. Clearly a car with multiple issues that Nissan needs to take responsibility for.

19 Frame And Members problem of the 2002 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 06/30/2004

On 6/30/04, took my vehicle in to my local dealer for a noise coming from the front end of the car. It sounded like the strut was broken or bottoming out. Dealer also thought it was a strut, and after putting two strut assemblies on the car, the problem was not resolved. Since then, this dealer and another dealer have replaced lower control arm, rack and pinion, cradle, and numerous bolts trying to fix the problem. Nissan dealer technical services and a Nissan engineer have inspected the vehicle. Nissan engineer has pinpointed the noise to the frame of the car. I have been told that there are supports or braces within the frame that may have broken. This vehicle has never been in an accident, so any problem within the frame are a result of defect caused during the manufacturing of the frame.
