Tl-the contact owns a 2003 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while traveling at 60 mph, the vehicle randomly stalled without warning. The contact also stated the failure recurred several times that day. The vehicle was taken to dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 113,000. Ec.

The Nissan dealer told us in January that there was a fluid pressure drop and wanted to replace seals for around $1,700. In February the dealer told us the transmission valve body needed to be replaced for $1,700 plus resetting the tcm for another $300. I believe Nissan knows full well there is a problem with this design and they need to issue a recall to fix these problems.
Vehicle would not respond to accelerator while in gear while attempting to accelerate from stop. Engine would not rev, but was running. Vehicle towed to dealer. Dealer advised cvt transmission component called valve body had an internal failure and tcm would need reprogramming. Vehicle has 126700 miles, purchased new. Cvt warranty was extended by Nissan from original 5 years 60000 to 10 years 120000. This vehicle's mileage is beyond this extended warranty period. However, major component failure of cvt is recognized by Nissan by virtue of extension of original warranty. The extension is inadequate and Nissan should be required to extend for longer time and mileage. Mechanics have advised that valve body failures in transmissions are very rare.
2003 Murano - when in stop and go traffic car will not accelerate for 5-10 seconds when pressing the gas pedal. Dealership had my car for 2 days and first said it was the transmission but then Nissan would not approve it to be replaced even under warranty. Then told me it was the tcm that needed to be replaced for $1000. 00. This is a very dangerous situation and Nissan needs to step up to the plate and replace these faulty dangerous parts free of charge to the customer! instead of diagnosing improper things and charging the customer thousands of dollars for non-fixes.
While driving down the road, it would not go forward, the engine would rev but the car wouldn't move. On 3-31-08 it was towed to a reputable transmission shop. They ran a diagnosis and said the transmission control module (tcm) was faulty and that they couldn't fix it. On 4-1-08 the car was towed to jack ingram Nissan in montgomery, al. I described all of the symptoms to the service rep and left it. On 4-2-08 they called and said the trans and tcm were fine but that one of the motor mounts was broken. I asked them if this would create the problems I was having and I was told yes, so I told them to replace the mount. A few hours later they called back and said the other mount was cracked and needed to be replaced so I told them to replace that one also. The total bill was $686 and we picked the car up the next morning, 4-3-08, my daughter returned to FL on 4-7. On 4-10, while returning to alabama from florida the car did the exact same thing. My daughter tried to make a turn and the car wouldn't move. She coasted into a parking lot and called me. Luckily she was in andalusia, al so I called massey automotive and they towed the vehicle to their shop. The next day, 4-11, a rep from massey called and said the tcm and trans were both bad and needed to be replaced. Also, they mentioned when they entered the VIN into the Nissan database (?) it showed where the trans had already been replaced twice at dealerships in GA. They also said they felt the faulty tcm caused the previous two trans to go bad. Luckily, the trans was still under warranty from the dealer in GA so it's being replaced at no cost to us. However, the tcm must be replaced and that's going to cost me approx. $900. Why didn't jack ingram tell us about the previous trans problems? I've tried to call them twice and the service manager has yet to return my calls. Additionally, I've had two individuals look at the old mounts and they said they couldn't see where they needed to be replaced.
Vehicle will drive normally. Without any warnings the vehicle will quickly slow down to 10 - 15 mph. The engine remains running at approx. 3k rpms but with very few, if any, power transferred to the transmission. The check engine light does not illuminate and if the vehicle is shut off and re-started; the condition clears.

Transmission seized up without any prior warning. I was traveling on interstate 81 at about 65 miles per hour when I had no power. Engine was working fine, but, as I found out later, my cvt transmission have self destruct, due to a code sent from the tcm module. I was in heavy traffic any was fortunate enough to be able to get to the shoulder of the road and not be involved in an accident.

After driving the car for about 30 min or so every time I step on the accelerator pedal the car is delayed in moving. In addition every time I drive the car I lose power. The check engine light comes on and the car slows to a crawl and stops. I will then have to coast the car off to the side of the road. Wait a few min and then restart. This is very scary every time I try to make left hand turns. Other times I am driving it just will not move for a long 5 to 8 sec delay. Cars coming at me in at any speed have almost hit me. There were no warnings prior the stalling. This happens every single time I drive the car. I read there was a NHTSA recall# 03v455000. The throttle body 3 times, transmission 2 times. Motor mounts and a host of other parts. Let's see OH yeah the tcm twice. Valve body replaced. Miles at 105,000. I have spent over $900. 00 plus. The dealership I bought it from won't take it back. At this point I just want out of this car. Could anyone help me?.
This is a copy of the text I sent Nissan. Interested parties Nissan USA reference # 5652837. I now own a 2003 Murano VIN 3 j. I have a problem that I am not resolved on and details are as follows: I am a reserve navy officer now deployed to iraq, which makes this entire evolution a bit difficult. My son chris wilson age 22 was driving the Murano on March 14, 2007 near his college in cullowhee, north carolina when while at highway speed noticed the check engine light illuminated and then experienced an immediate loss of power and engine shutdown. He was able to get the vehicle out of active traffic safely with no power steering or brake assist. Witnesses to the event claimed he was lucky and skilled to maneuver off the highway without endangering himself and others in traffic. We then searched for local dealerships to take the vehicle to contacted them and arranged for the vehicle to be towed there. After an analysis and the part number of a transmission control module tcm. I went to the Nissan USA web site and researched recalls that had been issued for 2003 Muranos. I was very interested to find one for VIN numbersjn8az08t 100007-100032,jn8az08w* 200005-200071. I realize that my VIN number is not one of these and the nice folks at the call center and the service folks at the dealerships are powerless to do anything unless there is a VIN match. The recall quotes: ãƒâ¢ã‚ã‚on some 2003 Muranos there is a possibility that the engine might stop running while being driven if the crank position sensor fails. This may also result in the ãƒâ¢ã‚ã‚service engine soonãƒâ¢ã‚ã‚ì³œ light coming on or reduced engine power. It is the same result as what happened to my car. I am a professional mechanical engineer and I feel ethically sound in making the request and maintaining an unresolved position on this matter.
Nissan Murano 2003. When hot and stop and go, acceleration can lag by 10 to 30 seconds after stepping on accelerator pedal. Very dangerous. Seems to be a pressure sensor in the transmission.
- the contact states that on 12/20/06 around 10:00 am the contact drove her 2004 Nissan Murano out of her driveway and proceeded to drive down an alley at about 2 mph. After making a left hand turn onto the main road of a residential area, the vehicle accelerated to about 50 mph without the contact touching the accelerator. The contact tried continuously applying the brakes, but vehicle never came to a stop. The contact states that the brakes went down to the floor. She had a hard time steering the vehicle while trying to get vehicle to come to a stop. The contact then hit a parked flat bed trailer, and the front tires of her vehicle drove up on the flat bed and the vehicle the rolled over on its side landing on the passenger side. The contact was dazed and witnesses climbed up onto the vehicle to get her out. The contact states there was fuel leaking from the vehicle, and once out of vehicle she and witnesses notice that the wheels of the vehicle continued turning at a high rate while on it side. The contact states that one of the witnesses climbed onto the vehicle and shut the ignition off but couldn't get key out of ignition. The police was called and a report filed and pictures were taken. The contact has called the Nissan corporation and filed a complaint and was given #557-22135 as a reference number.
To date, we have had numerous problems with our 2003 Murano. We have replaced the throttle body, motor mount, battery, tcm and transmission. On July 21, 2006 our Murano made a loud noise then quit moving. We had it towed to the dealership where they stated it needed a new tcm. That did not fix the problem so they said we needed a new transmission. We had 64,000 miles. Since then we had the car for one day and took it back for yet a new problem with the rear axle.
We bought a new 2004 Murano end of October of this year - since then nothing but major problem. While driving along at 60-65 - 5 times the car has seemed to come out of gear and slowing us to a slow pace then no pace or power - fortunately we've been able to avoid an accident. We pull car over to the side of the road - turn car off then back on and no problems at least for awhile. We never know when it will come out of gear or downshift within seonds leaving us with no power - needless to say a very dangerous situation. Dealer has attempted to find problem - even changing the tcm -(tansmission control module - whatever that is) they say until they can capture the codes - when problem occurrs - they don't know what's wrong. Aside from this serious flaw - we love our Murano - we just want it fixed. We'll drop it off again to the dealer tomoow for the 5th time - I feel they will be of little help - although they are trying. I'm not sure where we will turn next with this problem - I guess I could pursue lemon law but I really don't want to - I just want the car fixed and safe! I wanted to alert others in case this problem extends to other Murano's as well. We have 2,000 miles on our Murano and sacrificed greatly to purchase it - what a major dissappointment. We are life-long Nissan drivers and we are good friends with the employees at our dealership. Tim.
