My wipers have never worked properly. The other day, they completely stopped working. I checked online, and found that my car was part of a recall. I contacted Nissan, the manufacture. At first, they said my car was affected, that they would call to make sure that my car had not already been brought in (I am the second owner). I consulted my friend, who I bought the car from. She told me that the wipers were always a little off, but that she never got notice of a recall, and never got them fixed. I also looked further into this issue on this site, where I found the VIN numbers of vehicles affected, and also saw how they would fix the problem. Two days later, carl marshall, the rep from Nissan, called to tell me that my car's recall was "closed". I asked if he said this meant my car wasn't involved in the recall. He stated that he couldn't tell me that. When I presented to him the information that I got online, which identified all affected VIN #'s, and that mine was one of them, he said he couldn't tell me if my car was involved, but that "the case is closed". I persisted, stating that my friend who was the sole previous owner said the problem was never fixed, and asked chris to provide me with the date/place where the supposed fixing of the recall took place. Again, the information supposedly doesn't exist. All chris would tell me was that I am out of luck. I sincerely believe they are lying. Right now, I am unable to drive my car in the rain or snow. This is due to a defect of design, and this is due to a recall that never got fixed, and instead of doing the right and the lawful thing, Nissan is giving me the run-around.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Sentra. While driving 15 mph, the gear shift indicator would not shift into second gear. The contact was unable to shift into reverse and heard a grinding noise when shifting. The dealer stated that the shifter was too tight and they loosened the shifter on two occasions; however, the failure continued. The dealer stated that the transmission shifter caused the failure. As of December 10, 2007, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. The failure mileage was 93 and current mileage was 12,998. Updated 01-14-08. The consumer stated she heard a cracking noise coming from under the hood, the right rear tire had a leak, the window regulator was replaced, the shift knob was screwed on too far which was making it difficult for the consumer to shift gears. 12/28/04. . . I was driving on 2nd Ave in troy, NY, it began to snow/rain. . . Turned on my wipers and that is when I heard a snap noise and then my drivers side windshield wiper arm seemed to be broken. I took it to my mechanic the very next morning and they said it was broken, that a plastic piece snapped off. It was a dealership item, but that it is a Nissan recall item. My mechanic printed out the recall info and I went to the Nissan dealer in latham, NY. I was very upset when they told me that the part is a back order part and would not be in until sometime in January of 2005. Meanwhile, I have to go to work and can't drive in the rain, snow, sleet, hail. When I asked why they couldn't fedex the part the dealership in latham told me it is because it is a back-order item. I asked them if they could loan me a car due to the fact that it is a recall item. They told me they didn't know and then promised I would hear from them the same day in a little while, they had to wait on an answer from someone. I never heard back, so I called them. They said they could get me a rental car, but I had to pay for it. I was very upset because first of all, this defect is not my doing. Second, I can end up with no job if I can't get to my job. That is the entire problem, no car to go to work with if it rains or snows while waiting on Nissan for the part on back order. The springs that were connected to the struts dropped and punctured the passenger's front tire. Passenger's side of the vehicle fell to the ground. The left front spring had broken as well. Currently the right springs were tearing a 6 inch gash in the tire. Other problems were: there was a bang noise and grind when in motion due to a broken left strut and strut bearing, and noise in the wipers during intermittent relay.
While driving in rainy conditions consumer used the windshield wipers and was unable to turn them off. Consumer had to pull the fuse.

Problem: very acrid windshild washer vapors entering the passenger compartment. Recommended solutiond move the nozzels to the windshield wiper arms. The existing design places the nozzels directly in front of the fresh air intake thus drawing the atomized wiper solution into the airconditioning/defrost duct work while the car is in motion. The fumes are very strong and could possibly cause older people with breathing problems to have a reaction to these fumes while driving.
