When I put my car into drive and let off the brake the car accelorats by itself. I do not have my foot on the gas and the car will continue to speed up until I hit the break. While breaking the car seems like it is still trying to accelorate. You have to push the break all the way to the floor and hold it to try and maintain a full stop. If I put the car in neutral the rpms shoot way up. If I brake and stop the car and quickly throw it into park and shut it off and restart the car it usually solves the problem but it is definitly not a fix. There is just over 180,000 miles and I have just recently started to notice the problem it has happened a handful of times and I am trying to find the problem and get it fixed. This is very dangerous. The blinkers also peridoically stop working and can be fixed by clicking the hazard lights a few times but again not a permanent fix. The cruise control has gone out and the trac control doesnt turn on. This car is becoming a death trap and expensive and dangerous to drive!.

Car turns over but will not start. It has left me stranded 3 times so far. I have spend over a thousand dollars on parts alone, and now it is in the shop for I new fuel pump. (another $450) I have read many reports of the something happening to other people and no recall. It would really help to have a recall to save people their hard earn money on a problem that should have been fixed before the car was sold. I have been late to work many times, had to catch buses, and walk many miles because of this car. I have paid over $300 on rides to and from work just so I can pay for parts for the car to only run for a week. So please can you have a recall issued so me and countless other can have the good running car we all pay for in the first place. Thank you jarvis joyner.

original fuel filter have to be pried out of line and then pieces left
had to be removed with needle nose pliers. Fuel gauge as never worked. Now its running about 4 miles and then quits, sets for 30 minutes and drive another 4 miles then quits. Code reader says engine running lean, (problem is 4 to 5 sensors including the
injectors could be causing this, no way to tell with replacing them until it runs. The expense of this could be 1000 to 3000 dollars. Electric door locks failed , replace switch, only works part of the time.

2001 Alero gl had problems with the computer, cruise control, and the floor was leaking. ** answer required***. The vehicle consumed excessive amounts of gas, the vehicle only got 208 mile per tank of gas. The rear defroster works intermittently. The abs light, traction light and service engine light illuminated at the same time. When this happened the vehicle lost traction and abs brakes. On two occasion this failure caused the consumer to lose control of the vehicle. The rear seat slid forward when the brakes were applied abruptly.
Heater fan quit. Windshield stays fogged up in winter. Likely to cause accident. And cruise control quit also.
This documents an ongoing scenario regarding the cruise control switch, p/n spo 022608614. On 1/25/01 had the switch replaced [woodard chev, fairfield, CA] because the switch was inoperative . The same switch was inoperative after a vehicle service on 5/17/02 [pearson auto, sunnyvale, CA]. I have not replaced the switch for a 3rd time, because I feel this switch will fail after another engine service activity. I do not want to continue to pay for faulty designed parts, or pay for service inadequacies which lend to other component failures. This switch appears to be faulty in that the part has a short service life, or there is a flaw in the service process which ultimately renders the switch inoperative. Would like this remedied. Thank you!.
Beginning in November 2004 the consumer began to have problems with the electrical system in the 2004 Oldsmobile Alero. When the vehicle was purchased the air bag light came on. The consumer was concerned that the air bag light will cause the air bags not to deploy in case of an accident. Also, she was concerned that the air bags would deploy when there was no accident. The vehicle has been to the repair shop 6 times due to brake problems. . When the vehicle had 20,000 miles it had to have the rotors turned and brake shoes replaced. The brakes were still making a humming noise. The dealership could not figure out why the vehicle was having problems with the air bag light or with the brakes. The cruise control, door panels, windows were inoperative. The transmission or front axle seal was leaking, the blinkers were blinking too fast, the windshield was leaking, the carpet lining was coming out of the trunk, the engine made a knocking noise, the back trim around the seats didn't fit properly, the ignition switch was replaced, the fuse box was replaced.
Both windows on my car have fallen into the door. Before falling into the door there was a grinding noise and the a loud pop.
I have researched this problem and there seems to be too many people whose windows jam than fall down into the door. I have personally paid over $400 two times to have this fixed. Also another incident with this car are the blinker which sometimes work and sometimes don't. Just this week another problem with the air conditioning. The blower is not working therefore no defrost in this cold weather.
The cruise control failed to disengage. The throttle had gotten stuck. The shift lever cable assembly was binding. The shift cable was replaced.
Service engine soon lamp: intake manifold gasket: cruise control: transmission.
All four of my window regulators have failed within a period of 2 months, I have replaced 3 of the four, the left rear door still has not been replaced do to the cost of parts for this car, in adition, I have had to replace the front calipers, brake pads and rotors on this vehicle 2 times within a period of 1 year, just before the last time I replaced them, my rear calipers went out, they will engage, but will stay locked, only releasing after I drive for about 20 feet or so, I have also experienced problems with the security system activating itself and not allowing me to start the car for at least 10 minutes ( the time it takes the system to recycle itself). In adddition, my door pannels coverings are all coming separated accross the top of of them, again do to the cost, I have failed to replace them. Unfortunatly this happened before I knew that so many people where having problems with the Oldsmobile Aleros, so I did not retain the old parts.
Consumer stated the dashboard material peeled. The consumer stated the material peeled by the passenger side air bag. The cruise control did not work and both driver side windows motor broke.
The brake rotors had to be replaced twice because the brakes wear very fast replaced brakes 4 times since I bought the car in August of 2001 even if there the lifetime warranty brakes. The drivers door window motor has to be replaced. Driver window keeps coming off track causing the window to fall. The interior light fell out and had to be put back. The low tire air pressure light, and others keep coming on and staying on even if the work has been done. The back window has a wire type defrost in the window itself that has burned in once place only leaving a burned look on the back window. The cruise control went out a week after I had the vehicle which I bought the vehicle at 30, 000 miles. The passenger side view mirror shatter going the a roadway about 35 miles an hour, almost causing eye damage to a very young child if I hadn't roll the window up in time due to child being seated in the back seat in a child seat. The mirror shattered in very tiny pieces for no apparent reason.
Everytime the consumer uses the cruise control, the warning lights and chimes come on.
Engine check light came on . Vehicle idles up and down. Had to have fuel control valve replaced.
Consumer experiencing problems with cruise control.
Fuel leakage occurs around fuel tank. Also, tilt steering lever is broken, and cruise control light does not illuminate when activated. Service the engine soon light came on four times, and testing revealed that fuel seal was defective. Tilt wheel latch broke when starting the engine.
