I have a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero and back in 2003, while it was still under warranty, my passanger side window regulator ceased to work. It was replaced under the warranty. This winter, however, after my extended warranty had expired, the driver side window regulator failed to work and my window is stuck and unable to go down. I was told that it would cost an excess of $400 to fix this part, which it appears, was defective in the first place. I believe that the inability to retract my window is a safety concern. If I were trapped in my car following an accident and the door would not open and the window would not open, the car could go up in flames or I could drown, etc. . . Before help would arrive. This is a very dangerous malfunction that should be fixed by the general motors.

For the fifth time the window on my car has broken. Usually the window regulator goes out and the brackets break along with my window. This time, only the brackets broke and not the regulator. Problem is my car is no longer under warranty. I do not feel like I should have to pay for the repairs since my car is a 2002 model and this is the fifth time this has happened. Obviously something is not right with the situation.

Vehicle experienced electrical problems, such as the turn signal lights came on periodically, and the windows worked intermittently. Consumer took vehicle back to the dealer, and had also contacted the manufacturer, who was no help at all. The consumer stated that the vehicle still has electrical problems. The consumer was told that the elecrical wiring was replaced but when inspected the old wire was found still in the vehicle.

I have had 3 of the 4 regulator motors go out on my front driver's side, back drivers and passengers side. I have only had the front drivers side repaired as the dealer quoted me a price of $400 to fix each one. The front one broke while still under warranty, so that was fixed. Each time this happened as the window was rolled down or up. There was a loud clunking noise and the window just fell down. This is especially annoying since I have 2 small kids and their windows won't stay up. There has got to be some sort of defect, since I've read a number of reports about this same thing, and since it's happened to 3 of my 4 windows. I have a feeling it's about to happen to the front passenger side too, as that window won't roll down.
I have a 2 door 2002 olds. Alero that has many problems. My window regulators have broken on 3 different occasions. When this happens,my windows fall into the door and have no working capability. I went to an olds. Dealership to have this problem fixed. The dealership stated that the problem was not caused by anything I did. It costs a little over 1000. 00 to fix both windows on every occasion that they break. I have paid this amount on two separate occasions and I feel that it's not right for me to be paying anything at all. I can't afford to get them fixed again nor do I feel that I have to. I continually drive around in the freezing cold weather w/broken windows that shouldn't have broken in the first place. I would really like someone to recall this problem because I have researched it and have found that I am not the first one to have this problem. There are hundreds of reports on just this problem not to mention plenty others.
2003 Oldsmobile Alero, I have only had this car approximaytely 9 months, the driver's side power window has stopped working. Dealer has told me that warranty is out bacause of mileage. I drive about 700 miles a week for my job, that doesn't mean I sit and play with my power window, with the car being so new, it should still be working. Dealership has informed me that the cost to repair it would be around $300, maybe more. I find this to be extremely expensive considering the age of the car. Is there not a manufacturer warranty on such parts or is there a problem with the motors in the doors for the window?.
Front end suspension failed. Consumer took vehicle to a dealer to be serviced, but they would not help him. He contacted Oldsmobile manufacturer, and they referred him to a richardson Oldsmobile dealership. When he again took this vehicle to get it serviced, they did not fix it because dealer claimed that they could not find the cause of the problem. Also, while driving back window mad e a loud squeaking noise. It seemed like the window was not secure and was about to fall off.
Beginning in November 2004 the consumer began to have problems with the electrical system in the 2004 Oldsmobile Alero. When the vehicle was purchased the air bag light came on. The consumer was concerned that the air bag light will cause the air bags not to deploy in case of an accident. Also, she was concerned that the air bags would deploy when there was no accident. The vehicle has been to the repair shop 6 times due to brake problems. . When the vehicle had 20,000 miles it had to have the rotors turned and brake shoes replaced. The brakes were still making a humming noise. The dealership could not figure out why the vehicle was having problems with the air bag light or with the brakes. The cruise control, door panels, windows were inoperative. The transmission or front axle seal was leaking, the blinkers were blinking too fast, the windshield was leaking, the carpet lining was coming out of the trunk, the engine made a knocking noise, the back trim around the seats didn't fit properly, the ignition switch was replaced, the fuse box was replaced.

1999 Oldsmobile Alero (out of warranty) began to have problems with transmission "slipping" occasionally during the summer. I was told no problem could be found. While driving home last evening, the service engine soon light came on as well as the "trac off" light and it was very hard to get the car to go more than 30 mph on a 50 mph highway very nearly causing an accident. By the grace of god, that did not happen, but now I am told that the transmission may "possibly be bad" or it "could be several other things. " in either case, it would seem to me that someone should have found the error before. Additionally, the car has less than 65,000 miles on it and though it was sluggish from the time I bought it and would occasionally lurch forward when pulling away from a stop, it was not until the summer that it became a frequent as opposed to a rare occurrence. I truly believe that there is some flaw in the transmission. Of note also is that the driver's side window only rolls down on occasion and sometimes will not go back up, the fan only works on the highest 2 settings and the entire wiper blade assembly (some sort of sensor) had to be replaced 1 month out of warranty. What a piece of junk. And, the air conditioner no longer cools the car and I was told I had a slow leak.
I have a 2 door my passenger side window droped down inside the car, I had to have the whole window lift replaced because you don't have a repair kit. One month later the driver side window has droped down inside the door. The plastic lift has broke on pasanger side also.
Oldsmobile Alero 1999 the vehicle experienced brake and rotor problems. The alternator failed. The driver's side window regulator failed. The front coils spring failed. The oxygen sensor was replaced. Left front abs sensor and hub assembly were replaced.
Two door vehicle. The power windows mechanism that supports the window broke. The window will not roll up. Consumer had one side repaired by a mechanic.
Last summer my family and I loaded into my 2003 olds Alero gl for a trip. The passenger seat would click but not lock in place. The first time I tried to stop the vehicle, the seat slid forward with my wife in it. I've been to a local dealership 3 or 4 times and this still happens. Now that my warranty is expired I don't let anyone sit in that seat or I use my wife's car when carrying passengers to avoid the repair costs. A couple of months ago the drivers side window fell off track and and broke the mounting bracket on the glass, the repair bill was almost $400. About 2 weeks ago the window has started squeaking and rattling. I have stopped using it until I can get it to the dealership that did the repairs. A week and a half back I noticed a rattling noise in my front suspension and a week ago I had to spend almost $450 to replace my brake rotors and pads and have my suspension inspected. Nothing wrong was found with the suspension, but the noise is still there. I've taken the car to a local dealership and meineke 3 times total over the last year complaining of grinding and reduced stopping power. Both told me that visibly there was nothing wrong with my brakes and I had 15-20,000 miles of wear left, that was less than 6,000 miles ago. New issue. 3 days ago my windshield washer stopped working. When I tried to operate the washer fluid shot out of the top of the resevoir and soaked the entire engine compartment.
The turn signals work "sometimes", I was told it is a problem with the hazard switch but that has been replaced 3 times and the problem still exist. I have had six (6) window regulators replaced on my vehicle. A vehicle that has this history with turn signals is a safety hazard and your department should get more involved. The incident date is just the latest time the window has gone out.
All 4 windows in my1999 Alero are defective. 2 passenger windows are etching the glass everytime they go up and down. Driver window inside mechanism exploded and shattered the gears inside. Window fortunately is still on track but not functioning. Back window has to be taped up because it will not stay up and will fall into door. I usually am the only person in the car. Have never had windows malfunction like this. Help.
Driver's side power window failed. As a result, the window was unable to come down. Dealer states that the window regulator needed to be replaced.
This is the third brake job , got car with 30,000 miles had it two years - have replaced both wheel bearings--car now has 55,000 miles. Have replaced drivers side window control switch and now its in for the door latch failure. Ever driven 30 miles to get to a dealer with your door bungie corded shut if that is not a safety problem what is ?? that is the drivers door by the way. I have most definitely lost faith in gm. My next vehicle may very well be a Hyundai accent, they have only one page of problems and they provide a warranty.
I have a 2000 Alero (64025 miles). My mechanic said that I need to replace the intake gasket, a cost of $600. 00 to fix. He told me that he has replaced many of these mostly in Aleros between the years of 2000-2003. This is not the only problem I am having with my car. The motor for the window on the drivers side has been broken for about 1 yr. The Oldsmobile dealership gave me a quote of just under $400. 00 to repair it. Not to mention that I have had the rotors and brakes replace all the way around the car (about 1 yr ago) and about every 3-5 months I have to go in and have the rotors turned. It cost me close to $800. 00 to have the brake and rotors replace and the turning of the rotors are under warranty. . . But I have to take time to do this and it is very inconvenient. Not to mention the car is only 3 years old. . . Oldsmobile should take care of all of these problems. This is costing their customers time and money!.
I have researched this problem and there seems to be too many people whose windows jam than fall down into the door. I have personally paid over $400 two times to have this fixed. Also another incident with this car are the blinker which sometimes work and sometimes don't. Just this week another problem with the air conditioning. The blower is not working therefore no defrost in this cold weather.
1999 2 door olds Alero had broken power windows. Both broke at about the same time. Took to auto service and it cost $616 to fix. Is there a recall on this model.
The consumer stated that the regulator on the driver's side power window has broken. It was replaced for $309. 74. The consumer spoken with the dealer/mechanic and was told that they are replacing these things at the rate of 4-5 per month. He stated that his just snapped and the window fell down completely, because it operates on a pulley type system.
I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero with only 44,000 miles and I have had to change both window regulators and changed mounting clips in the driver's window only 9 months ago. This is a very costly part to have to purchase. Why isn't there a recall?.
Windows regulator & power window motors both sides become inoperable, high cost of repair. Also the whole wiring system. Wires loose, get pinched by gearshift. Now the radios volume turns up with higher rpm or down at low rpm. When back window defroster is on radio crackles or completely turns off. Same happens at times when putting gear into park. There is realy no incident date, this is a ongoing problem for the past 6-8 month.
Passenger window on 2000 Oldsmobile Alero continues to quit working.
Consumer received recall notice concerning hazard flashing warning lights. At any speed the hazard flashing warning light worked intermittently. This vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN. Also, the driver's side electrical window would not roll down.
Driver and passenger door regulators are failing and causing damage to windows.
The mechanism that raises and lowers the side windows on my 1999 Alero GLS coupe failed about one year ago -- in both windows. They were repaired after failing, and even the repaired mechanism failed. The window can not be raised from its current lowered position.
Both front side windows do not roll down. Owner contacted dealership.
Rotors bad, brakes bad, wheels leak air, windows leak air in, windshied shakes, engine runs high temps and knocks, paint is starting to rust. Cd player is always shuting off. Dealer has not done a thing to help and my car is under warranty for a few more months. I need help soon.
Power window for driver would not go up in 9/03 during a rain storm. After the rain stopped, I took apart door and pushed window up. Window since would not go down. Then during 6/04, the front passenger, and left rear-passenger power windows would not go down either. Left passenger window will lower several inches at random times while parked. No one touches the power window switches in the car since I don't want a window to go down and not be able to get it back up.
In the spring of 2003 my window, drivers side slid into the door jam. My boyfriend took the door off and we realized that the window regulator was bent and the plastic pieces that attach to the window to hold it up were broken. I called the dealership and was informed that it would cost $500. 00 to fix it. $300. 00 for the part and the rest in labor. I looked into getting a used part, so I began calling junk yards. A few had no regulators, however at fitzgeralds in Lincoln DE I was told that I was the 4 or 5th person to call in regards to a regulator for an Alero. He stated that he could order the part wholesale and it would cost $120. 00. I also began a search online and found a mechanic in NY that would fix my regulator or give me a repaired one for around $80. 00, so I sent it to him. Unfortunately, the parts that he gave with the regulator were not right and when trying to install the regulator the plastic pieces broke again. The mechanic in NY send additional pieces and we were able to get the window working properly, after using some adhesive to get the window to stay attached to the regulator. The process of trying to get the window completely fixed took months. We finally got the window working around October of 2003. Now it is December 2004 and again the window is starting to slip. I believe that this is somehow a mechanical problem with the power window. Could you please look into whether or not this is indeed a recall. Thank you.
I bought my car with 14 miles on it. In the first year, I had to have the molding on the doors replaced because they leaked. The drivers side window fell into the door. I've been told that it is my regulator that needs to be replaced. I also found a broken clip just sitting inside my door. You can't buy just a regulator or clips so I will need to buy those parts plus the motor which will cost at least $280. My rotors also needed to be shaved down because they were warped and my brakes needed to be replaced and now, only 5 months later, they need to be totally replaced because they are warped again and my brakes will have to be replaced as well. This is the worst car I've ever owned! my first and last experience I will ever have with gm!! I realize things happen to cars, but I would expect Oldsmobile to acknowledge these re-occurring problems and be held accountable to fix them.
Glass in passenger window fell in channel. I was able to bring it back up but it keeps falling in again. There are numerous service bulletins, complaints and defect investigations on this same problem. Here are the defect investigation numbers: 754557,10016869,10032972,10039036,752099,563702,10011989. Service bulletins: 010864018b, 010857007a,010864012b,010864018a,010864018. This should not be happening on these cars - who knows how many we haven't heard about. I don't think we should have to pay for this kind of defect.
