Talked to olds numerous times, admitted the problem is so bad that part is on back order for 4 to 6 months. Quick fix is a lube kit they have come out with, but it is only a temporary fix. Consumer should not have to pay for such a common failure. It was December 31, 2004 when this steering gear box sector shaft issue occurred.

The car involved is a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of this Oldsmobile Aurora is 1G3GS64CX1_. Clunky feel and eventually noise in steering wheel. Turned out to be the steering column intermediate shaft. Looked it up on internet, it is a problem on most gm large cars and trucks. Gm has so far failed to recognize the problem with a recall but has a replacement part available. I replaced it at the cost of $267, well worth it to have my beautiful car like new again, but gm should replace free for the pr. The failure date was Thu., Dec. 27, 2007.
