Failure Date: 03/10/2007

No signs of looming failure. Needs new transmission with less than 70,000. Gm rebuilt transmission comes with 100,000 mile warranty? clearly a problem that gm knows about but has done nothing.

3 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1999 Oldsmobile Bravada

Failure Date: 12/19/2006

Transmission reaction sun shell failure occurred when entering highway at legal speed. Avoided accident, but condition is extremely dangerous and somewhat common to all gm 4l60e transmissions. Dealer diagnosed failure and stated that this was a common failure in this transmission due to a defective design of the reaction sun shell. Part is improperly welded/heat-treated. Gm has redesigned the part and offers goodwill repairs at their discretion. Gm decided that my dealer-maintained vehicle was not worthy of a goodwill repair?, although the service manager recommended transmission replacement due to the pristine condition of my vehicle. Cost $2152 to repair, but how many accidents or deaths has this event caused over the last ten years? I would believe at least one and gm has escaped the recall this part failure deserves. Car has been maintained by dealer in accordance with required intervals. Transmission flush is not recommended until 100,000 miles, but this vehicle has had fluid flushes; by the dealer, @ 35k and 78k. Failure occurred 4 months after service @ 82k.

6 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Oldsmobile Bravada

Failure Date: 07/19/2005

Issue with transmission upshift from 1 to 2 gear, 2004 Oldsmobile Bravada awd the transmission has issues when it shifts gears and causes my family to get thrown back into our seats causing whiplash. It also drastically reduces the rpm, losing speed. This scares us considering that other vehicles might rear end my car. Unfortunately the gm dealership holds our vehicle for maybe 2 days and drives it for a short distance. Since they cannot find the issue as it is random even though this condition as described in their service bulletin says that it is random, the vehicle is returned since gm will not pay them. They want the condition t worsen before they fix it, putting us is harms way. I would suspect this hapens with the trailblazer and GMC envoy as well.

10 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1998 Oldsmobile Bravada

Failure Date: 05/25/2004

Automatic transmission skips in lower gears, causing vehicle to lurch forward. "service needed" light is illuminated. Dealer indicates that due to a milling error in the transmission, casing, transmission will need to be replaced soon at a minimum cost of $2500. Current odometer reading is 120,000. I feel the subcontractor for the milled casing should be required to replace the transmission at their cost.

The transmission went out at 72000 miles, cost me $2400 to get a new one installed. I babied this car from the moment I bought it off the lot at a certified gm dealership, only 32000 miles when I purchased it. I feel that this vehicle was a lemon.

13 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada

Failure Date: 07/11/2002

This is an awd vehicle which is slipping into awd when it is not needed (dry pavement) and then stays that way. It is necessary to take it to the dealer for service as they have advised that gm is aware of the problem but hasn't found a permanent solution to it. My concerns are: decreased steering control when turning a sharp corner on dry pavement because vehicle is in awd, the decreaed gas mileage by driving around in awd and the potential for damage or early replacement required for the tires which will be worn prematurely. Since gm is discontinuing all Oldsmobiles, my concern is also that they will just continue to have the dealer reset whatever to get the vehicle back into 2wd whenever it happens, instead of fixing the problem.

14 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada

Failure Date: 06/26/2002

While parking vehicle would not shift into reverse. Dealer notified.

15 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1999 Oldsmobile Bravada

Failure Date: 12/13/2001

While driving at 55mph, rear wheels felt as if they locked, vehicle began to fishtail or swerve in rear end. The vehicle accelerated over the median and hit an oncoming vehicle. Neither drivers side nor passengers side airbags deployed. Consumer states that the roads were wet and it felt as though the rear tire hit a water pocket, consumer states that vehicles brake or awd system failed also due to the skid marks, there were four injuries in the accident.

16 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada

Failure Date: 10/21/2001

Consumer has had multiple, reoccuring problems with new vehicle since first purchased in October 2001. Car has been returned to dealer more than 12 times in 18 months and has placed significant burden on the owner. Vehicle now has new major mechanical problems with both the engine and transmission. Although the vehicle is still under warranty, the large number of persistent problems classifies this vehicle as unreliable and, more importantly, unsafe. Owner has contacted dealer regarding a replacement vehicle (lemon law), however the dealership has directed the owner to the maker company (gm/Oldsmobile). The maker has responded by insisting that the warranty was designed for such problems and they have referred the owner back to the dealer for continual repairs. In other words, neither the maker nor their representative dealer is willing to assist the owner in resolving the situation. The dealership has since closed due to owner retirement, as well. More than five complaints have been issued to the maker from the owner by either phone, electronically or mail without any positive feeback from the maker or any attempt to rectify the situation. Note: the incident date listed here is simply the purchase date - all incidents have been continous and on going since date of purchase. 2 windshield wiper failures repaired under warranty 1st at 3,973 miles 2nd at 11,660 miles.

17 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada

Failure Date: 10/10/2001

Memory mirrors do not return to their position after coming from reverse. Consumer must adjust mirrors, while driving, to get the back to the proper position. Passenger side seat belt locks while braking. Consumer must unfasten the seat belt - while moving - recoil and then fasten seatbelt to release pressure. Transmission downshifts 15-30 seconds after coming to a complete stop in cold weather. Downshifts are hard (feeling like vehicle has been hit from behind) and long (time between gears).

18 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada

Failure Date: 07/05/2001

When accelerating there is a loud whine up to 3rd gear. Also, while driving 55 mph vehicle shifted into 1st gear. Dealer had no explanation nor remedy to offer.

19 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1998 Oldsmobile Bravada

Failure Date: 04/01/2001

The service engine light comes on and 6 different transmissions trouble codes are set in the computer causing the transmission to go into a default mode that causes it not to have a first gear or high gear. The electrical dash gauges moy or may not work at times and the key may or may not come out of the switch when you try and shut the car off. I checked with a gm dealer and talked to the mechanic and as soon as I showed him the trouble codes and the number of times they had came up he told me what the problem was as he had seen it on many other gm cars before.

20 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1996 Oldsmobile Bravada

Failure Date: 02/12/2000

Today I had to have replaced the connection to the positive side of the battery. The mechanic cut off a bunch of the wire as the corrosion was widespread. Almost everytime I stopped the car and turned the motor off I would have to use a pair of pliers to tighten up the connection to get started. This has happened many times since last summer and I even had the alternator replaced on a road trip because we couldn't start the car and this is what a mechanic said was needed. The problem with the windshield wipers looks like it was covered in a recall but since I purchased the car used I didn't know about the recall when I discovered the problem last winter. I replaced the windshield wiper connections at my mechanic and paid for it. Is there any way to get the money back from the manufacturer? the third problem is that the awd will kick in when I frist start up the car even though there is no need for awd. This wastes gasoline and I don't know how to stop the awd and get it to 2wd.
