Car has 65,000 miles when water-pump failed catastrophically (pump drive shaft sheared) while driving causing breakdown. Needed to be towed to repair facility. 1. Water pump failed - shaft connecting pully system to impeller sheared in half. Part is available for inspection. 65,000 miles on the engine 2. Car stopped running due to overheating and loss of electrical power - I had to stop in the middle of a busy street and wait for a tow . 3. Car was repaired by dealership and I have the damaged part, service reports and invoice. 4. This occurred without warning - while driving at approx 55mph I heard a "bang" and the coolant and electrical lights lit up on my dashboard. Engine temperature rose rapidly and battery drained quickly. Images of water pump drive shaft show a manufacturing defect of the shaft having been partially compromised prior to the sharing (failure). Google searches show that issues with Porsche boxter water pumps - including my year and model.

The ims bearings in the 2001-2005 Porsche Boxster would just stop the engine if not replaced. Hello, I bought my 2003 posche Boxster brand new from rector Porsche/Audi dealership of burlingame back in 2003. I recently found out that Porsche had a faulty part in their engine called the ims bearings. The cars that were involved are cars from 2001-2005 Porsche Boxster. There was a lawsuit (eisen vs. Porsche cars north America) that took place and settled before going into trial. People that owned the cars were notified to get their ims bearings fixed through Porsche. I was never notified. I reached out to Porsche cars north America and asked about the lawsuit. The last date to file to get your car fixed was October 15, 2013. They told me that I wasn't even listed in their system as the owner of my Porsche Boxster. So I asked. How could have I filed a claim if I was never notified about it. People's cars would seized from working without any signs of any problems. My car only has 32,480 miles on it. The dealership mechanic suggest's that I get my ims bearings replaced. But it would cost me $3,500. What can I do about this? they won't own up to this and it's their fault for not having my name listed in their system. I showed them my bill of sales from rector and even showed proof of registrations dating back from 2002 - to present day.

My 2013 Boxster is currently at the dealer for repairs for the 7th time due to rodent damage to wiring. Porsche used a soy based compound on its wires which is extremely attractive to rodents. Porsche germany and Porsche north America deny the use of these products. An email yesterday stated "we do not have any information that indicates we currently or previously used a soy based product in our wiring". The damage occurs in our garage which is not enclosed. This damage has been ongoing since 6/25/15.

My dashboard reads fault of the engine control system and a yellow engine appears I called Porsche of ramsey NJ as I have not had this vehicle for three months yet and was told not to drive the vehicle they had buckwild towing tow my vehicle to their location I am extremely upset and want restitution from this company I don't have the mileage but I think its 5373 the car was parked at the time I tried to start it and this is what appeared on the dash board.
Driving on freeway at about 70 mph and intermediate shaft failed. Created dangerous situation as engine started billowing smoke, obscuring traffic causing many cars to swerve dangerously and had stop abruptly. Car towed to repair shop empire autohaus, inc. Where problem was diagnosed. Owned car for three years with zero problems and regular service. Learned that many Porsche automobiles with the m96 engine (up to 25%) with less than 90,000 miles have had same problem and has yet to be addressed by manufacturer.
1998 Porsche Boxster. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle engine problems. The consumer stated between 1997 and 1998 Porsche produced an engine with two known flaws. The first, was the engine block, that was too porous. It caused the cylinder walls to crack, causing loss of all compression in the cylinder, and therefore rendering the engine useless. Secondly, they designed a faulty intermediate bearing shaft, that had a high rate of failure, and destroying the engine. Also, the computer module was located in a position that exposed it to increased probability to short circuit.

This is a very well know ims failure issue with Porsche Boxster which certainly calls for a recall from Porsche. My 2005 engine will need to be replaced for 20k just because of the very obvious design flaw Porsche has in its m96 engines. I am pretty sure there have been numerous complaints about this in past but nobody has ever heeded to it. I sincerely recommend some one to please look into and ask Porsche to accept and recall m96 engines failing due to ims. Any car expert or mechanic or dealership can vouch for the design flaw Porsche has. Its potentially fatal too. I sincerely request someone to look into this complaint with uttermost sincerity.

I was recently told by a Porsche dealer that the rear engines seals need to be replaced for $2400. After researching this extensively over the internet, most if not all Porsche Boxsters need this replaced before 60,000 miles. And this is due to inappropriate seals being used up to at least 2004. Porsche even during the late 1990's, replaced engines under warranty because of this problem. It is very evident that the issues with the rear main seals are an epidemic and should have been recalled for all vehicles affected. I called Porsche hq and they declined to do anything under good will. It is just not right when so many other people are affected.
Porsche Boxsters from 1999-2004 have a defective rear engine seal which fails in all vehicles. This should be a recall because even the dealer says it is common. This is a very costly fix and should have been dealt with years ago. The NHTSA even has technical bulletins issued on this. This is far too common of a defective part which needs to be recalled and fixed by Porsche. They have since then replaced the rear seals with a different type used on cayennes.
Diagnosed problem was a slipped cylinder sleeve. Heat exchange between alloy block and steel sleeve has been prevalent in far to many of these cars. . Read more...
