Saturn ION owners have reported 41 problems related to vehicle speed control (under the vehicle speed control category).
Just entered onto a highway and suddenly could not accelerate. When hitting the gas pedal, car would not accelerate. The car was in drive and had been moving for 10 minutes prior with no issues. No prior issues before this. Pulled off the side of the highway and turned off car. When turned on again, would not crank. Lights worked fine but car just wouldn't turn on. Mechanic is not sure why car won't start still.

Manual transmission vehicle. Was accelerating onto the highway and merging into fast moving traffic (approximately 60-70 mph traffic). I shifted into 5th gear and then depressed the accelerator pedal all the way to gain enough speed to safely merge leftward. When I lifted my foot away from the pedal it stayed fully depressed (fully accelerating). I hit the brakes moderately, and it was still accelerating, then I hit the brakes harder to decrease my speed (from 70+ down to 60) as I shifted into neutral. I kicked down hard on the accelerator and it released back to the default position.
The car is presently under recall for ignition. However. The car cannot be driven as the pwr str warning comes on for a few seconds, and no steering or severe loss of all steering control of the vehicle is lost after the car has run for 15 minute and every 5 plus minutes after the first failure. Gm will not fix anything on my vehicle, I made a complaint with NHTSA and have made internal complaint at gm regarding my 2007 Ion and the 3 accidents due to the loss of ignition and total power including break failure going down the highway at 50 plus and losing control resulting in accidents. I need help to start the complaint about the power steering as it will not allow me to safely drive the car at all. I am disabled and on oxygene, I have requested special accomidations from gm to assist with my disabled condition to help expadite any repairs and all warranted coverages for power steering, air bag non function, and recalled ignition. The car presently has 55,000 miles and cannot be driven as the power steering will not allow the car to be controlled. The previous, most recent accident, caused structural damage including a front fender complete bent and radiator bent at a tail collision due to ignition outage with no breaks at 30 plus mph. No air bags deployed, only damages to myself, blindness to left eye and severe concossion, and car is not safe to drive. Gm will has not taken any action since my phone complaints in April, almost 30 days ago. Anthony lombardo 937-938-1466 VIN 1g8aj55fx7z101428.

The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph the vehicle independently accelerated. The contact had to fully apply the brakes while maneuvering to the side of the road and shut vehicle off to bring it to a full stop. There was a recall under nthsa campaign id number 14v047000 (air bags, electrical system). The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated while driving in reverse approximately 2 mph there was a sudden increase in acceleration and the vehicle crashed into a brick wall. The air bags did not deploy. The ignition key independently released from the switch prior to the crash. In addition, the front driver's side seat belt unexpectedly detached which caused the driver to strike the dashboard. The contact sustained injury to the chest and head. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to the dealer. The contact stated the failure was a related to the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 14v047000 (air bags , electrical system). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact did not receive the recall notice until after the incident occurred. The approximate failure mileage was 27,600.
I have owned this vehicle for 4 yrs and have has multiple instances of the vehicle revving and speeding up without ever hitting the gas. When this occurs I have reached speeds over 25mph without ever hitting the gas pedal when taking off from a stoppped position. Usually this happens when I start the vehicle initially but has occured while driving also. The rpm's will go high and if I put in gear the car will just take off. It sometimes will rev down after idling for a few minutes or if I shut off and restart after a couple minutes. When it happens while driving I have had to put in neutral and coast to a stop and shut car down. This is just a very unsafe situation altogether, and from what I have seen there are many more who have experienced this same issue.

Lost power/control while driving, felt like the bottom of the car was falling out, upon repair was informed a bad ignition coil.
I was driving down a boulevard, I was doing 40 mph there was a police car in front and there was maybe about 2 car length distance from him. The light hit yellow and I saw him brake so I started braking as well but my car would not brake. The acceleration continued increasing, I didn't know what to do. I was slamming on the brakes but my car did not stop. My car slammed into the police car within seconds. My car was destroyed. My hood was bent in half, my front bumper scratched & peeled. The bumper stood on the car only because I kept trying to brake and the car went in an angle where it went under the cops car. Both my side fenders cracked and my front light was destroyed. The whole car frame is destroyed and I was held at fault of this accident. My insurance went up, I didn't get no money to help fix my car nor check the problem. If there is way I can get any type of help I would truly appreciate it. 5 months later the same situation happened again thank god I was not driving my vehicle it was parked. It was just accelerating on its own, I didn't know what to do. I left it parked for a week and when I turned it on it was fine. Im scared that this will happen again, please help me out.
Turned vehicle on after sitting for about 8 hours in parking lot, the car revved up to about 4,000rpm which is unusually high. I waited for the car to calm down and when it did, I put the car into gear to drive. My car lunged forward and without pushing the gas pedal, my car accellerated and eventually made it to 40mpg through the parking lot before I had to hit my brake to avoid a collision. This as occured intermittently over the past year; approximately 3 or 4 times a month.

I first bought my 2006 Saturn Ion in March of 2013. Three days later I notice that when I would get on the highway my car would sway extremely bad. Our hwy speed is 75. Going 70mph was too much and it would sway a lot. Mind you I was pregnant at the time. The car spun out as I was exiting the highway. I was terrified because cars were right behind me. Thank god I got out of the way before I got hit. You can understand how upset I was due to the fact that I was 4months pregnant at the time. Since then my husband has spun out 5 times driving our car. We've taking it to the mechanics multiple times and they don't even know what to do with it. Our wheel alignments are fine. Also, our key gets stuck in the ignition a lot upon turning it off. So we have to use the button which is in the steering wheel just to get them out. Also, lately the car picks and chooses when it wants to accelerate. Lately I can floor it and the car will still be going 30mph. Also, lately when we go to turn on the car, it takes awhile and makes a sound as if the battery is dead, but then it soon comes on. I have had nothing but problems with this car from the start. I thought this was a good buy, but everyday I regret it and I fear for me, my husband, and my child's safety. Please do something about this issue. Matter of fact just take our cars. We don't need them fixed. Just take them please!.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, the accelerator pedal abnormally traveled to the floorboard upon being engaged and would then became stuck. The vehicle failed to decelerate until the brake pedal was depressed repeatedly. The failure recurred seven times. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Tl- the contact owns a 2004 Saturn Ion-3. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the power steering assist failed and the steering wheel became inoperable. The contact managed to exit the roadway without incident however, experienced extreme difficulty in turning the steering wheel. The dealer was notified of the failure who advised that the repair was not under recall and offered no additional assistance. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 75,755. And the current mileage was 75,756. Kmj.
On June 7, 2014, the vehicle would not stop running. I took it to a nearby care care center where they stopped it. The recall establishment (zimbrick Buick-Saturn) told them to have the vehicle towed to their establishment. They kept the vehicle until June 26th trying to replace the switch and start the vehicle. They charged the car care center "jump started" the vehicle in a wrongful manner and that caused a computer to fail. I have a sworn statement that it was not jump started. They eventually replaced the computer with a used Cadillac part and charged me $1288. 41. The entire process was caused by a defective ignition switch and incompetence in repairing the vehicle. I don't believe I should be required to pay the amount requested and seek compensation.
My car constantly do not start. Also, when I go over speed bumps or hit pot holes my car will turn off.

The car made a loud noise when I pressed on the gas. It would not accelerate fast enough for the highway and the speedometer was not working. I'm guessing the car could go at max, 20mph. The speedometer remained on 0 while the acceleration had to go up to 3 or 4 just to keep the car moving. The check engine light was on. I took the car to gm dealership/certified Saturn service right then, and they charged me $360 to replace the transmission control module. The service guy told me that when mechanics first did the electrical diagnostic check, the car failed 32 markers, but when they did an electrical diagnostic check after replacing the transmission control module, the results confirmed that all the car's problems have been fixed.
When entering a highway and gathering speed, I removed my foot from the gas pedal and the car continued to accelerate. I applied the brakes but the car reached 85mph. I hit the gas pedal and the vehicle began to decelerate. I pulled off the road and turned off the vehicle. I restarted the vehicle and drove home (10 miles) without further incident.
The contact owns a 2003 Saturn Ion. The contact stated the vehicle abnormally accelerated without warning. The engine rpms raced even after the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle was hesitant to stop. The contact had to slam the vehicle into park in order to correct the failure. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 180,000.
Whilst driving, my car would accelerate on it's own going almost 45-50mph. Pressing the brakes would barely do anything. It won't start when it thinks it's too cold outside, I've had the battery tested multiple times and it is fine. Also, when trying to stop the car and take the key out of the ignition it resists a lot. Happens multiple times a week.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact was driving 5 mph when the vehicle stalled. The check engine and power down warning lights illuminated prior to the failure. The vehicle was towed to both a private mechanic and the dealer. The dealer stated that the throttle body sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 56,000 and the current mileage was 57,000. Updated 06/12/lj the consumer stated the throttle body was replaced four times. The check engine light illuminated. Onstar reported a fuel system problem. Updated 06/13/12.
Lost of power steering started some time in 2009,I have no record of the date, but in one of the incidents 06/10/2011 I took a picture of the dashboard showing the date and message on the speedometer. I restarted the engine every time this happen to get it back to power steering . Then I had a situation when I lost speed as I was traveling on a city avenue. The car lost speed when I was traveling around 35 mph,it made a alarm or warning sound and drop down to 10mph and I could not get back to 35mph,I stop the car and I restarted the engine, that was the only way it would recover the power on the engine. It happens two or three times in one month.
About three years ago is when I had my first problem with speed acceleration with my Saturn. I left work and turned on my car and started to drive an hour to go home all the sudden my car began to accelerate and I wasnt pressing the gas. My vehicle continued to accelerate and I had to keep my foot on the brake to slow the vehicle down and it was still accelerating. I had to pull over on the side of the road and pop my car into neutral going approximately 70mph. I somehow managed to get home but my car continued to accelerate without me pressing on the gas. When I would turn the vehicle on while it was still in park the rpm's would go crazy as if I had my foot on the gas petal. I immediately contacted my auto shop who indicated that they could not find anything wrong with my vehicle. I have had several incidents since then and ended up crashing earlier this year. My vehicle sped up on a snowy road and I lost complete steering for my vehicle, I nearly rolled my car and crashed head on into a snow bank. My air bags never deployed, after I contacted my insurance company they were surprised with the amount of front end damage I had on my vehicle that my airbags should have deployed but they did not. I know others are having the same issues with the vehicle accelerating with no application of the gas petal and the brake petal does little or nothing to stop or slow the vehicle down.
The contact owns a 2004 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the throttle suddenly jammed and the vehicle began revving uncontrollably. The contact had to place the vehicle in neutral and coasted to the side. After inspecting the vehicle, he went under his hood and placed the throttle back in its proper place. The vehicle was then towed to his home. It had not been inspected by a dealer nor had it been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 129,000.
Had a recall on 2007 Saturn Ion and was told that bennet motor company was not correcting the problem as Saturn has closed what are we suppose to do also had a problem with the gas pedal on this car also it would not go as it was not getting gas.
L was driving my 2006 Saturn Ion which l bought brand new in 2006 going to pick up my granddaughter in howell mi I was on interstate with my cruse control on as l went on exit interstate,l turned off cruse control when l did that it shut my car down completely ,l was merging on another interstate with no engine running no power steering and unable to restart engine . There was no where to pull over off road safely , l was almost killed car had to come to a complete stop to restart . I have had this happen to me 3 different times , l have taken car to chevy dealership many time complaining about this matter, they said they could not find any problems , l have stopped using my cruse control . L really have a lemon sunroof does not work sun roof leaks , the car starts when it wants to , lam retired 65 years old and take very good care of the Saturn Ion , l would be afraid to sell this 2006 Saturn Ion to the public , l don't want to kill anyone , the car sits ,not using it , won't sell it, what can be done? and there is no retail value for this car . Now there is a recall on ignition switch I feel so very sorry for the people that lost their lifes,l was lucky that l was not one that was killed ,as l said earlier, this car went to dealership 3 different times on this matter , last time l took the car in was last summer 2013 , mechanic drove Saturn Ion and told me there is nothing wrong . The car sits.
Our Ion experienced a loss of power while driving full speed on the interstate multiple times between 2006 and 2008. A car had backed into the Ion while parked in a lot at one point, so we thought it might be related to that, but our experience seems to be identical to those reported under the recall. We attempted to have it fixed several times at gm dealerships. The last fix involved replacing all the main wires in the motor. After that, the ignition seemed to be tighter, and the stalling stopped, but the car would then not start, intermittently. It would randomly go into lock down mode for 10 or so minutes. Just thought we would add our experience to the statistics. It was very dangerous, and we easily could have died. We do still have the car- couldn't afford another. We currently have a rental car and are awaiting our fix.
