Loose speed while driving drop from 55 to 10 almost comes to complete stop. It started on highway driving now it does it on city streets. Check engine light comes on and stays on for days at a time.

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that while driving at a 10 mph and attempting to depress the brake pedal, the vehicle independently accelerated and crashed into a building and the air bags failed to deploy. I was leaving a local grocery store, started my car and proceeded to drive out of the parking lot to the main road, route 611, a fairly busy thoroughfare. As I turned right and attempted to accelerate, the check engine light came on as well as the 'reduced engine power light'. Despite pressing on the the gas pedal to accelerate safely into the flow of traffic (around 40 mph), my car would not accelerate past 10 miles per hour. I am so very lucky that I was not in an accident. I followed the instruction in the Saturn Ion manual which says to turn off the car and the error should clear itself after 10 minutes. I did this and the 'reduced engine power light' went out but not the check engine light. I took the car immediately to my local mechanic who ran a inconclusive diagnostic test. They cleared the check engine light and the car ran fine until yesterday, 4 weeks after the first instance. While I was driving my children home from the dentist, in the flow of traffic, at close to 40 mph, the dash board chimed, check engine light and 'reduced engine power light' lit up and immediately my car would not accelerate over 10 miles per hour. Luckily, we were very close to home, and were not in an accident. Again, I let the car rest, and 12 hours later started the car, both lights cleared themselves. Within in 5 miles of driving to the gym from my home, while driving in the flow of traffic, this issue happened again. This reduced power issue should be a recall. One simple online search shows there are thousands of gm/Saturn cars with this very dangerous issue. Among so many other manufacturer safety issues! this car has had 3 other recalls, one of which my local gm dealer has failed over 3 times to fix. I have to manually put my finger into the steering column to release the ignition key. Hold gm accountable and please make this issue a recall.

On 3/16/2015 I was merging on the freeway in my 2004 Saturn Ion and I had to brake suddenly due to another driver cutting me off, all of a sudden my Saturn began to accelerate on its own and reached high rpms between 4k and 5k and car launched at a high speed. I attempted to brake yet my Saturn still continued to move forward I reacted fast and steered toward the emergency lane pulled my e brake up and threw my car in neutral and shut my car off yet when ignition was all the way turned off my car was still on for a period of about 4 seconds. I am very concerned that this may occur again. This can result in a very serious accident or even a fatal conclusion. I find myself very nervous and uncomfortable driving this vehicle (Saturn Ion) but unfortunately it is my only way to get to work.

I was driving my Saturn tonight and noticed that even when I would let off the brake, the car would accelerate and rpms would stay elevated. I was driving at about 35-40mph. I was coming up to an intersection and it simply didn't feel right, like it was pulling forward. The traffic light turns red and I start to apply pressure to the brakes. It felt like the brakes were resisting and it was taking a lot more pressure than usual to slow down. My car would not come to a complete stop and I was going ~5mph right up to the crosswalk. The car started violently lurching forward and still, still wasn't coming to a stop. The rpms were revving and I was able to react in time to put the car in neutral, keep braking, and turn the engine off right before things would have ended very badly. I kept my car in park and turned it on, and it would shoot up immediately to 4000 rpm. I didn't trust the car at all at this point and sat in -18 degree weather processing what had just happened and what to do next. After about 5 minutes I heard what can be described as the acceleration pedal releasing or popping back up in place. There was nothing it could have been caught on to cause it to stick. Terrifying.
Coming to a stop in heavy traffic alarms and lights went off, the car lost powering and wouldn't go into gear finally when the gear engaged it would only stay in first gear. Luckily we were able to pull off the busy highway and get safely to the side of the road with no accidents or injuries.
My seat belts will no longer buckle. My shift gets stuck in park and jumps into other gears(neutral) and the car revs on it's own without putting foot on gas. My shift is doing the exact same thing as the recall for the aura and the dealer wants to charge me $700. 00 in repairs and the parts are on back order for 6 months. Just entered onto a highway and suddenly could not accelerate. When hitting the gas pedal, car would not accelerate. The car was in drive and had been moving for 10 minutes prior with no issues. No prior issues before this. Pulled off the side of the highway and turned off car. When turned on again, would not crank. Lights worked fine but car just wouldn't turn on. Mechanic is not sure why car won't start still.
Manual transmission vehicle. Was accelerating onto the highway and merging into fast moving traffic (approximately 60-70 mph traffic). I shifted into 5th gear and then depressed the accelerator pedal all the way to gain enough speed to safely merge leftward. When I lifted my foot away from the pedal it stayed fully depressed (fully accelerating). I hit the brakes moderately, and it was still accelerating, then I hit the brakes harder to decrease my speed (from 70+ down to 60) as I shifted into neutral. I kicked down hard on the accelerator and it released back to the default position.
I bought this car as a first car for my daughter that is a new driver. I has been off the road more than on the road for recalls. The first ignition recall could have injured or killed my daughter. . As we were awaiting parts, we were following directions of no weight on key ring and only key in ignition. The incident still happened causing loss of power steering and loss of speed. As a new driver this incident scarred her and she did not feel comfortable driving the car. I put the car up for sale. Then another recall, the eps which also causes the car to lose power steering and causes speed loss. So, back to garber and we just drove the car back home on January 2, 2015. Seemed to start out fine, then loss of speed and the car only drove at 35 mph with a lot of effort. I paid $3500 for this car for my daughter. . Still paying on the loan and now I cannot get it to run correctly or sell it. . I am stuck with a non-running vehicle that I have to insure as well. This total is costing me over $300 a month while the car sits. I don't know if my dealer did the recall correctly. I have had issues with my impala as well with recalls being done correctly. One including my airbag recall and a seat belt issue that I paid out of pocket 100. 00 after several issues. I feel gm should reimburse me for this vehicle as I cannot sell it or drive it. It is not fair that I purchased this from a dealer only pay for a non working vehicle.
The day I brought the car home from the dealer I drove the car to work. Pizza delivery, drove the car for approximately 1 hour the car was in drive and suddenly the car acted as if it was in neutral I pressed on the accelerator slightly and the engine revved but would only roll slightly. I then put the car in park turned the car off restarted the car. It then drove fine for 15 min. Same issue again. I am very disappointed with my new purchase from the dealer. I also found out that their are recalls on the car and the dealer failed to mention that. First day with my car and I am worried.
I was driving the 2006 Saturn Ion in my neighborhood. I reached the intersection at the end of my street and came to a stop/yield. As I took my foot off the brake to shift to the gas and began steering to turn left, the engine suddenly turned off. The battery light on the dash appeared. I was able to put the car in park, turn off the vehicle, and restart it. I returned home instead of continuing my trip. My vehicle is affected by the recall with campaign id number 14v-047. I had removed all additional keys from my keyring as recommended in the three recall letters I received, but I still believe that this issue was related to the issue the ignition switch. I have chosen to file this complaint because one of the letters I received from [xxx]of gm asserted that the vehicle was safe to drive as long as there were no additional keys on the keyring. . The car is presently under recall for ignition. However. The car cannot be driven as the pwr str warning comes on for a few seconds, and no steering or severe loss of all steering control of the vehicle is lost after the car has run for 15 minute and every 5 plus minutes after the first failure. Gm will not fix anything on my vehicle, I made a complaint with NHTSA and have made internal complaint at gm regarding my 2007 Ion and the 3 accidents due to the loss of ignition and total power including break failure going down the highway at 50 plus and losing control resulting in accidents. I need help to start the complaint about the power steering as it will not allow me to safely drive the car at all. I am disabled and on oxygene, I have requested special accomidations from gm to assist with my disabled condition to help expadite any repairs and all warranted coverages for power steering, air bag non function, and recalled ignition. The car presently has 55,000 miles and cannot be driven as the power steering will not allow the car to be controlled. The previous, most recent accident, caused structural damage including a front fender complete bent and radiator bent at a tail collision due to ignition outage with no breaks at 30 plus mph. No air bags deployed, only damages to myself, blindness to left eye and severe concossion, and car is not safe to drive. The air bags did not deploy. The ignition key independently released from the switch prior to the crash. I have owned this vehicle for 4 yrs and have has multiple instances of the vehicle revving and speeding up without ever hitting the gas. When this occurs I have reached speeds over 25mph without ever hitting the gas pedal when taking off from a stoppped position. Usually this happens when I start the vehicle initially but has occured while driving also. The rpm's will go high and if I put in gear the car will just take off. It sometimes will rev down after idling for a few minutes or if I shut off and restart after a couple minutes. When it happens while driving I have had to put in neutral and coast to a stop and shut car down. This is just a very unsafe situation altogether, and from what I have seen there are many more who have experienced this same issue.
Lost power/control while driving, felt like the bottom of the car was falling out, upon repair was informed a bad ignition coil.
I was driving down a boulevard, I was doing 40 mph there was a police car in front and there was maybe about 2 car length distance from him. The light hit yellow and I saw him brake so I started braking as well but my car would not brake. The acceleration continued increasing, I didn't know what to do. I was slamming on the brakes but my car did not stop. My car slammed into the police car within seconds. My car was destroyed. My hood was bent in half, my front bumper scratched & peeled. The bumper stood on the car only because I kept trying to brake and the car went in an angle where it went under the cops car. Both my side fenders cracked and my front light was destroyed. The whole car frame is destroyed and I was held at fault of this accident. My insurance went up, I didn't get no money to help fix my car nor check the problem. If there is way I can get any type of help I would truly appreciate it. 5 months later the same situation happened again thank god I was not driving my vehicle it was parked. It was just accelerating on its own, I didn't know what to do. I left it parked for a week and when I turned it on it was fine. Im scared that this will happen again, please help me out.
Turned vehicle on after sitting for about 8 hours in parking lot, the car revved up to about 4,000rpm which is unusually high. I waited for the car to calm down and when it did, I put the car into gear to drive. My car lunged forward and without pushing the gas pedal, my car accellerated and eventually made it to 40mpg through the parking lot before I had to hit my brake to avoid a collision. This as occured intermittently over the past year; approximately 3 or 4 times a month.
I first bought my 2006 Saturn Ion in March of 2013. Three days later I notice that when I would get on the highway my car would sway extremely bad. Our hwy speed is 75. Going 70mph was too much and it would sway a lot. Mind you I was pregnant at the time. The car spun out as I was exiting the highway. I was terrified because cars were right behind me. Thank god I got out of the way before I got hit. You can understand how upset I was due to the fact that I was 4months pregnant at the time. Since then my husband has spun out 5 times driving our car. We've taking it to the mechanics multiple times and they don't even know what to do with it. Our wheel alignments are fine. Also, our key gets stuck in the ignition a lot upon turning it off. So we have to use the button which is in the steering wheel just to get them out. Also, lately the car picks and chooses when it wants to accelerate. Lately I can floor it and the car will still be going 30mph. Also, lately when we go to turn on the car, it takes awhile and makes a sound as if the battery is dead, but then it soon comes on. I have had nothing but problems with this car from the start. I thought this was a good buy, but everyday I regret it and I fear for me, my husband, and my child's safety. Please do something about this issue. Matter of fact just take our cars. We don't need them fixed. Just take them please!.

Tl- the contact owns a 2004 Saturn Ion-3. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the power steering assist failed and the steering wheel became inoperable. The contact managed to exit the roadway without incident however, experienced extreme difficulty in turning the steering wheel. The dealer was notified of the failure who advised that the repair was not under recall and offered no additional assistance. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. On June 7, 2014, the vehicle would not stop running. I took it to a nearby care care center where they stopped it. The recall establishment (zimbrick Buick-Saturn) told them to have the vehicle towed to their establishment. They kept the vehicle until June 26th trying to replace the switch and start the vehicle. They charged the car care center "jump started" the vehicle in a wrongful manner and that caused a computer to fail. I have a sworn statement that it was not jump started. They eventually replaced the computer with a used Cadillac part and charged me $1288. 41. The entire process was caused by a defective ignition switch and incompetence in repairing the vehicle. I don't believe I should be required to pay the amount requested and seek compensation.
