Timing Tensioner Problems of Suzuki Grand Vitara
Suzuki Grand Vitara owners have reported 3 problems associated with timing tensioner (under the engine and engine cooling category).
#1 - Timing Tensioner problem of the 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara
The car involved is a 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara. The VIN of this vehicle was JS3TD62V41_. I purchased a 2001 Suzuki grand vitarta with 8000 miles. At 24,500 miles the engine began to have noise. Took to dealer who stated it was timing chin tensioner. They replaced 2 tensioners at the dealers expense. I have put an additional 5000 miles on the car and the problem seems to be back. I have researched the tensioners and found 100's of complaints on the same part. Suzuki has not issued a recall on this item as of yet, however if the timing chain should break, accidents can occur. I have another appointment with the dealer in the next few days and am not sure if the problem with be fixed and is so at whose expense. The closest dealership is 65 miles away. There have also been TSB on this part so Suzuki is well aware of the problem. This problem occurred on Thursday, November 3, 2005.

The vehicle involved is a 2000 Suzuki Grand Vitara. Noise coming from timing cover. Dealer indicated it was timing chain tensioner. Dealer stated this was a common problem and that there is a technical service bulletin (TSB) concerning this issue. Total cost to remedy the situation was approx $1600. The engine would need to be pulled from vehicle, oil pan, timing cover removed and three chains, and related tensioners replaced (12. 5hrs labor). This problem should be covered either in total or partial by manufacturer. This timing tensioner issue occurred December 10, 2006.
