The contact stated while driving various speeds when he would make a right and left turn that the horn would beep independently, along with that the air bag warning light illuminated independently. The contact drove the vehicle to the local dealer (westchester Toyota sales, 2167 central park Ave, yonkers, NY, 10710) where it was diagnosed that the bracket within the steering wheel failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer confirmed that the steering wheel and air bag was properly intacted. The contact inquired on how did the failure occur and was informed per the dealer that it was due to wear and tear. The vehicle was not repaired due to the contact felt that he was not at fault, that the vehicle was not in a accident and the manufacturer stated that they would not assist. The manufacturer was contacted and made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not under warranty, and that there was no recall. The manufacturer did not offer any additional assistance and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 158,000. Jb.
