36 Headlights problem of the 2012 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 11/15/2013

I was traveling between two major intersections on the outskirts of decora, IA on a four lane road with my lights on dim. I was alone in my lane there was no traffic in front nor behind though there was maybe one or two cars in the lanes coming toward me. Suddenly I saw white on the road in front of me. I slammed on the brakes and turned slightly to the left. At this point I realized the white were deer feet, the deer ran off the road to my right. I only saw the feet move, I never saw the deer in full. My complaint is that the Camry headlights do not allow enough light to shine above the pavement to be able to see a threat that is not right on the road. If you bring the Camry against a wall you will see there is a line in the headlight shine, above which there is very little light, it is black. The only light that seems to shine above is that which bounces up from the pavement. The headlights do a good job of putting light on the pavement but do not put enough light above the pavement to see anything that is not flat on the pavement. The brakes and tires worked well, they saved me from hitting the deer. This was a very close call. These headlights are a safety hazard.

38 Headlights problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

While driving the headlight go out. If I turn them off then back on they come on. Some times this happens every minute or so and sometime they work fine. I have replaced the left low beam thinking I had a bad light. I think this is a safety issue and should be fixed by the manufacture.

39 Headlights problem of the 2006 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 10/08/2013

Driving home from work I hit a large deer, approximately 200 pounds, at 45 mph, direct front end contact, causing damage to the whole front hood, grille, both front fenders, radiator, headlights, air conditioning system. Air bags did not deploy, no injury to me. Received my car from the body shop October 25th and everything looked great. After driving approximately 800 miles noticed a little body misalignment and on the 18th of October I drove to the body shop to have them look at the alignment problem and check the air bag warning light. They are working on the body issue, which I could care less about, however, after doing a scan of the car systems, with the hand held scanner, the air bag warning is not a sensor issue due to the collision with the deer, but it is in the passenger seat sensor/wiring which should be a Toyota issue. I have researched this and there are several complaints online, but I have not seen a re-call from Toyota, the fix for this situation is to replace the passenger seat at a cost of about $3400. 00. My biggest concern is why did the air bags not deploy and now is the total air bag system not functioning?.

40 Headlights problem of the 2008 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/26/2013

This 2008 Toyota Camry solara, ~37k miles, uses the same headlight bulb types as the 2008 Toyota avalon, 9011 for high beams and I had both high beams go out on a winding road in back country of wisconsin with many deer and other moving night creatures. Both high beam bulbs shattered during this trip, leaving glass fragments inside the lens assembly and it also left a white discoloration (tungsten deposition?) on the inside plastic lenses of one headlight, which seems to reduce the low beam visibility. Nhtsa reference # 10037591 TSB reference # sb-0044-10 rev 1 description: Toyota: on some 2008-2010 avalon vehicles, the high beam light bulbs may not work or shatter. This 2008 solara was put into service in April of 2008 and should be covered by the 72k mile, 5 year warranty extension, just like the 2008 avalon recall. How come only the avalon was covered? I believe this should also apply to the 2008 solara model also as it uses a very similar headlight assembly and suffers from the same issue.

42 Headlights problem of the 2012 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/04/2013

I purchased my car in July of 2012 and never drove it at night until about a month later. I was shocked to see that when you are driving in an unlighted area there is a very dark shadow that goes across the entire top half of the windshield which inhibits your view greatly. I have complained to the dealership twice about this and they tell me there is nothing they can do. I told them that I can barely see beyond 10 feet of the road unless I have my high beams on and was concerned of having an accident from this. Well I did have an accident the other night and hopefully someone will listen to me now. Someone had left a car illegally parked on an on ramp and when I was driving home the other night I never saw the car parked there do to the poor lighting from my car and as I was trying to merge into the travel lane I slammed into the parked car. Fortunately I was not injured however the next person may not be as fortunate and I cannot ignore this. They have to do something about their headlights on the new Toyota Camry that causes the windshield to have a dark shadow across the top half at night. Both my husband and close friend have seen what happens to the windshield at night and they agreed it greatly inhibits your view of the road.

45 Headlights problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Hid headlights turn off while driving. Problem is sporadic. May include one or both lights turning off. It is not a bulb issue. Similar to Toyota prius hid light issues.

49 Headlights problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

High-intensity discharge (hid) headlights work intermittently. Turning them off and back on temporarily ¿¿fixes¿ the problem, but one or the other will go out again after driving more than a few minutes. Occasionally both go out during the same trip which can be a bit of a shock when it is dark and the road curves. Online research seems to indicate that this is a common problem on solara & prius. Replacement bulbs are extremely expensive and many customers state they don't always fix the problem.

58 Headlights problem of the 1996 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 06/10/2010

My headlights are very dim, fortunately I have not crashed at this point but I have swerved and at near accident situations. I cannot see in the dark and I am forced to use my high beams. Around summer of 2010, I crashed m y car on a curve going to san francisco, CA on highway 85. As I was about to curve I slowly went from 65 mph to 25 mph or a bit lower to curve correctly. My steering wheel locked and I was not able to curve appropriately so my car continued straight and hit the side of the curve (luckily it was blocked by a steel highway fence). I replaced the drivers door and front bumper with an awful off color paint job. I did not make a police report and I did not contact my insurance. I fixed my car and now I am afraid it might happen again. Property damage of my car was done. My window no longer works and my key entry is no longer functioning as well due to the crash.

59 Headlights problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Hid headlight on passenger side "flickers" on and off. Apparently this is an issue for many Toyota vehicles with this type of headlight, and costs a significant amt of money to repair/replace.

60 Headlights problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 03/10/2010

The passenger side hid headlight turns off while driving. I can turn it off and then back on, and it might stay on for 15 seconds to 15 minutes. Now, the driver side hid headlight is starting to do it, too. I didn't realize I had no lights until I got up on the highway where there are no street lights.

61 Headlights problem of the 2010 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/23/2010

Light from headlights is inadequate. It seems to be half cut off at the top of the beam so that when the vehicle goes down hill the light only goes out about 20 feet and is totally impossible to see the road. I have to use the high beams all the time if traveling anyplace where there are hills. This is an ongoing problem every since I got the Toyota Camry. In the Lexus they have made is the headlights move to compensate for this problem so Toyota must be aware of it but isn't acknowledging it when we called the dealer. No fix is offered and the car is unsafe to drive at night in hilly terrain.

62 Headlights problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/05/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota solara. The contact was driving approximately 65 mph when the headlights unexpectedly failed. The high beam lights were then engaged in order to illuminate the roadway. The vehicle was taken to dealer and they informed the contact that all four headlight bulbs would need to be replaced and possibly, the head lamp assembly. The vehicle was not repaired for the most recent failure. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure was 40,000.

63 Headlights problem of the 2009 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 09/02/2009

The design of the headlights on the Camry is awful. You cannot see the overhead signs on the highways at night without turning on the bright lights which will blind other oncoming cars. You cannot even see the street signs without turning on the bright lights. Its like the top of the lights are cut off. The dealer said the lights are correct; they checked the aim and said that is the way they are made. This car is unsafe to drive at night.
