2 Windshield problem of the 2020 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 06/30/2021

I have replaced my windshield 4 times in a 16 month period. Every time I replace it something very small like a pebble or a big bug hits it and it cracks extremely easy. Once I was cleaning my windshield and lifted the wiper up about 3" and then when I was through I just let it go and it cracked the windshield. I have owned several vehicles and I have never seen a windshield so brittle. Out of the 16 months of owning this car I have only driven it with a non cracked windshield for about 30 days.

3 Windshield problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 09/04/2017

The dashboard on my Camry is melting causing a sticky residue. My safety concern is while driving the car, sun causes a glare on to the windshield preventing me from seeing any on coming traffic, or objects. Without clear visibility driving this car has caused me several near head on collisions with ongoing traffic. Driving this car I purchased scares me that this is issue will cause me an accident which could take my life or someone else on road I may hit. Toyota was aware of the dash issue years prior but only fixed some of this defected dashes by creating a warranty enhancement. If the problem was present or known it was replaceable with in their window of time, they will not make their defected dash correct. I realize over time all components of a car have wear and tear. This is not that issue at all. This is a issue of a dash being used that has a chemical while in sun melts. There was two prior class action lawsuits and to prevent a recall and notifying all owners of this defect and correcting it for the safety of drivers in their product but also drivers in other autos which are now at danger if this viability causes a Camry driver to collide with their auto. This defect effects all drivers on the highway not just the Toyota drivers. I have been to and called Toyota several times pertaining to this issue and my fear of driving. I have simply been able to get no recourse for this defect. I am very aware of the cost to fix this defect however I feel the cost of every life replacing this dash saves is worth well more than the cost to replace the defected dash. I plead for you to investigate a huge problem & the trap involved with the warranty enhancement Toyota implemented versus recalling the dashboards, getting them off the road to make highway driving safer for non Toyota owners simply driving & owners which could potentially pay with their life. Thanks.

5 Windshield problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 06/14/2012

While driving down the interstate this morning, my driver's side sun visor suddenly flopped down into my line of sight, causing me to almost have an accident. It will not stay up or pushed back out of the way- it falls to the lowest point, directly blocking my view of the top half of the windshield. I tried moving it to the side, but it blocks my vision here. I have not seen the dealer yet, but after searching online forms I see that this is a common problem in Toyota's that they are refusing to acknowledge or accept responsibility for. There are over 230 complaints about this problem on this database for just the 2007 Camry. From what I've seen, Toyota thinks it is no big deal to pay $100-$200 to replace a part that is shoddy built. However, this is a major safety hazard and the defective part should be recalled in all models immediately, regardless of warranty or mileage. It obviously is something they have known about for a long time but they continue to ignore the potential seriousness of this malfunction.

6 Windshield problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 06/12/2012

As I put the driver's sun visor up to leave a parking lot, something broke in the mechanism that holds the visor up and it flopped back down. It won't stay up and it won't stay against the windshield -- it just hangs down above the steering wheel, leaving you with about 4-5 inches of visibility out onto the road, even less if you're tall. I feel very lucky that this didn't happen as I was driving over a bump in the road at 40 miles an hour! it's a very unsafe feeling to drive stooped down to see through the opening or with one hand holding the visor up so you can see ahead to what is coming up in front of you. Since this will probably happen to most people after the 3-year warranty runs out and many people won't be able to afford the repair, it's a real safety issue. I think there needs to be a recall, as it appears many people are having this problem.

7 Windshield problem of the 2008 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 09/21/2011

The driver side sun visor broke. It doesn't stay all the way up against the roof of the car and/or all the way towards the windshield.

8 Windshield problem of the 2008 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 08/22/2011

After about 1 week of having the driver's side sun visor becoming increasingly weak, and unable to be completely tucked in the forward position (toward windshield), the visor joint completely failed today, resulting in the visor blocking vision from the drivers seat. This resulted in having to hold the visor up, in order to make the drive home from work (~40 minutes). This incident happened today, and no repairs have been attempted yet.

9 Windshield problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 07/20/2011

2007 Camry le driver side sun visor not remaining up and eventually came completely off when I was moving visor from side window back to windshield. This happened while I was driving and almost resulted in an accident.

10 Windshield problem of the 2009 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 07/14/2011

The sun visor in 2009 Toyota Camry xle hangs in face while driving. In the down position and would not stay secured in the "up" position, it then came off bracket and could be seen through the upholstery. Due to the major obstruction of vision it had to completely remove the visor to prevent wrecking. The black metal hinge allowing the visor to "flip" cracked the plastic tube like piece at the top of the visor causing it to stay down against the windshield.

11 Windshield problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 06/26/2011

When attempting to flip-up my visor prior to driving, driver's side sun visor broke. The breakage appears to have occurred inside the visor itself, and not where it attaches to the roof. Because of this issue, the visor hangs down and obstructs my view out the front windshield and makes it extremely dangerous to drive. When flipping it to the side, it continues to hang down and makes it difficult to see the driver-side mirror, and again is difficult to drive.

12 Windshield problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 06/04/2011

The driver's side sun visor has suddenly stopped staying in place. It will not lie flush with the roof of the car, nor will it stay pushed against the windshield. It is a visibility hazard. The light is also no longer functioning. This is not due to any unusual use: I pushed it up, it flopped halfway down and now it stays there, blocking my view of the road. As I searched online for repair suggestions, I saw that a great number of Camry owners are experiencing the same issue, leading me to believe this is a factory defect.

13 Windshield problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 05/20/2011

After a short while of noticing a strange clicking sound when placing the driver's side visor into an up, locked position, the visor ceased to lock. When this happened, I could feel the broken piece and it created a "bump" underneath the visor material covering. Eventually, it created enough tension on the visor material that the material pulled away from the vanity mirror exposing some of the plastic underneath. The visor will not sit in its upright position or stay forward toward the windshield, but rather hangs directly in the view of the driver. This is very dangerous and significantly impairs the driver's view. Another driver entering my car refused to drive because they didn't feel comfortable with the visibility. Currently, I have the visor taped to the roof; however, this is simply unacceptable for a 4 year old car (2007 Camry). Never have I had issue with a sun visor, nor am I "rough" on my car (I drive a lot, but my car is in very good condition inside and outside). I was among the people affected by the oil line leak, having my car break down while driving with my 8-month pregnant sister in the car. (this was prior to the recall. ) Toyota has become a negligent company and it is the responsibility of the us government and NHTSA (among other groups) to protect the consumers from fraud like this. Based on these organizations ratings and evaluations, I bought my 07 Camry thinking I was getting a quality, dependable, safe car. Instead, I have had issue after issue with no assistance from the same organizations who claimed Toyota's superiority; not even Toyota wants to back up its work! I sincerely hope the powers that be make this visor issue a recall and Toyota is held accountable for the products it sells. I welcome my local dealer and/or Toyota to contact me and resolve this issue.

14 Windshield problem of the 2011 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 05/13/2011

While driving on a highway at 55-60 mph in a sunny day, the front windshield of Toyota Camry 2011 on the driver side suddenly cracked from upper left corner and gradually extended towards the middle of the windshield.

15 Windshield problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 04/01/2011

The dashboard of my 2007 Toyota Camry se has been melting and there is a shine reflection of the dashboard in the windshield creating a visibility problem. I bought this car brand new when it came out at maroon Toyota at weston, FL. When I started with the problem I took it to this dealership and the manager said my car was our of warranty and could do nothing. I also took it to headquarters Toyota in miami where I have been taking my car for maintenance and I got the same reply. I called Toyota USA and the agent said he can't do anything else either because the dashboard of the car has a warranty of only 3 years. This is a manufacturing defect of the car. I never heard of a melting dashboard and my car right now has less than 65k and this started when it was around 50k miles. Please, can you help? I am sure I cannot be the only one complaining. Thank you.

16 Windshield problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/15/2011

The driver's side sun visor on my 2007 Toyota Camry will not stay in place. The inside grips of the sun visor have broken apart or warped and now the visor continues to drop down in front of the windshield blocking full view of the road which could cause a hazard. I accidently ran a red stop light because the visor dropped down in front of me. There is nothing that will hold the visor in place unless I physically hold it up with my hand until I reach my destination. At first, the sun visor would squeak when opening or closing until one day it just would not close back.

17 Windshield problem of the 2008 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

Both (driver and passenger side) sun visors are defective via disconnect and/or inability to move from windshield view (occurring only 3 years after purchase of vehicle new). Also, vehicles electrical plug outlets also do not work, and have not worked since after 3 years of vehicle purchased new. Searching online, it appears that both items are extremely common for 2007-2008 Toyota Camry owners, with at least thousands pleading for a recall as the fixes are extremely expensive, for an item that does not typically break with normal wear and tear, and is obviously not derived from wear and tear.

18 Windshield problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 08/22/2010

Driver side sun visor will not stay in the folded up position and obscures forward vision. It was pulled down to hold up an accordion style sunshade in the windshield and would not fold back up. The failure has not been repaired yet.

19 Windshield problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 07/27/2010

Driver side visor broken and obstructing view. Visor was removed by owner due to safety reasons. Passenger side visor will not stay extended to windshield.

20 Windshield problem of the 2011 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 07/15/2010

My new car has a vor lens which results in half the windshield darkened during low beam use. This ece style lighting is totally distracting and I believe dangerous in a dark, rural setting. Motorists are refusing to beam down when approaching since theyre uncomfortable with half the windshield dark! off the main roadway has its problems when more than half the window becomes very dark, very quickly. Over use of high beams will have unintended consequences. Original sae lighting should be available for retrofit for the north american market.

21 Windshield problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

2007 Camry se ~37000 miles. Sun visors have failed to hold in position. This results in the visors not staying up and coming all the way down facing the ground blocking the drivers view (as well as the passenger's view). When looking in blind spots, the driver hits his/her head on the visor. This can be very dangerous as the drivers vision is impaired and unable to view out the windshield. Toyota unwilling to correct the issue even though it is a major safety hazard. I have 6yr/100,000 mile warranty and are only wanting to warrant parts for 36,000 miles. Under warranty or not, it sounds like someone will have to be killed before this is corrected. There are many complaints about the Toyota Camry visors online.

22 Windshield problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 05/25/2010

While operating vehicle, driver side sun visor broke, obscuring view of windshield. When I attempted to change the position of the visor, it fell off, hit me on the mouth, and slid onto the driverside floorboard. Very dangerous.

23 Windshield problem of the 2004 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/04/2009

Additional info regarding odi case number: 10142658, sun glare on 2004 Toyota solara. The problem appears to be the reflection of sheen on the dashboard back onto the inside of the windshield, much like a projection screen. In certain cases I have "lost" other vehicles in the glare. The dealership suggested I purchase a dashboard cover. It seems Toyota should come up with some type of fix, not aftermarket vendors and not at my expense. This has been an ongoing problem on sunny days.

24 Windshield problem of the 2008 Toyota Camry

26 Windshield problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

2007 Toyota Camry se. I noticed film started to peel off from my front and rear windshield. I am unsure what caused it but it really poises a tremendous hazard. 28 Windshield problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 10/31/2006

I purchased my 07 corolla le on 9/19/07 from a dealer in PA. After I drove the car the next day a was feeling car sick, especially when making turns. It seemed that things were moving in my peripheral vision. On further inspection there are major ripples in the windshield; I just so happened to get a rock chip on Friday the 13th and dealer suggested I get it repaired. I ask the dealer about the ripples they seemed dumb founded and didn't seem to know what I was talking about. So I took there advise and took my vehicle to their recommended facility. I then asked that tech. And his supervisor the same question and they both said there was a major defect in the windshield and to have it replaced ASAP. I just left the dealer to have them inspect the back window seals and to have them replaced and an oil change when 5 minutes later I returned with the verdict from the glass place. They inspected the windshield and decide to replace it. I got the new one and this one also has a slight ripple not as bad as the first but still there and noticeable to me and the service manager and assistant manager. They went and looked at the others on the lot and stated that they are all like that. I didn't care they were all defective I wanted mine repaired correctly and was told that it was up to Toyota to decide the result. Upon filing a complaint to Toyota experience center they informed me that it will not be replaced again there is nothing wrong with it that all the vehicles on the lot are the same way. I stated that I can't help that all your windshields on the lot are defective she kept stating that it wasn't a defect. I told her if they didn't think it was defective they wouldn't have replaced it the first time. I found some other vehicle owners of Toyota vehicles Lexus, my corolla tacoma and sedona and a few other people I have spoken to also with the same problem. Toyota continues to give you defective windshields with ripples and tell you there is nothing wrong with it.

33 Windshield problem of the 1996 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/01/2005

A thin layer of ice had formed on my car's rear windshield overnight. I tried to clear it by using my rear defost. I drove for about 20 minutes and while stopped at the red light I heard a loud noise, as a ballon would explode, came from the back of my car and I saw a crack at the corner of my back windshield. I drove for another 1/2 miles and arrived at my destination. This is when the rear windshield crumbled to pieces. I had my baby in the back seat rear facing. Fortunately, I had covered her with a blanket, which shielded her from the shattered glass.

34 Windshield problem of the 2004 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 11/11/2004

The design ( angle ) of the windshield creates severe visibility problems when driving into the sun. The glare off the front windshield is blinding even with the sunshade down. Using sunglasses helps but does not elevate the problem at all. I have tried adjusting seat to change viewing angle but wont help. This is a problem I have never experienced with any other vehicles I have driven. This concerns me very much and makes me hesitant to drive the car in the mornings. With sun behind you there are no problems with visibility.
