At 54,000 miles, 57,000 and 59,000 miles I took the vehicle to a Toyota service center after experiencing oil consumption, one quart every 1,000 miles or so. I was told this was normal consumption, each time, which I still didn't believe and returned to complain as a matter of record. The car has 74,000 miles on it and it is at the Toyota service center exhibiting a knock in the engine. Now, because there is a knock in the engine the oil consumption test cannot be done. I took the car to the Toyota center three previous times and no oil consumption test was offered any time I raised the issue. Now Toyota says they can't perform the oil consumption test, and since the oil consumption test was a requirement for authorized repair/replacement Toyota will not honor there warranty enhancement notification - ze7 letter. How this happened, I was on my way home from city driving and within 1 mile of my home and I heard a noise coming from the front of the car. I stopped the car and opened the hood to inspect the engine area. I restarted the car and noticed an engine noise. The car was then pulled to the driveway and hauled to the service center on a flatbed towing truck. I am now waiting for the Toyota service center, who told me the car cannot be covered by Toyota unless I pay a portion of the repair cost. This is an admission of the problem (guilt), and is not in accordance with the letter I received. The letter clearly states, conduct an engine consumption test to be considered for repair or replacement. How can this be done, when the service center failed to subject this car to the oil consumption on three occasions? I, attempted on three occasions to obtain service and was denied, now I am at fault? it is my opinion Toyota is responsible for this repair/ replacement, as there was time to conduct the test and time to avert the problem with the engine.

My 2009 Toyota Corolla has about 93,300 miles on it. After all the recalls that this vehicle has had, it also has been making noise every time I start it. Sometimes it is a loud screeching noise and sometimes it is not that loud. I am sick and tired of all these recalls and I am surprised they are not recalling this problem because from what I have read, many other owners are also having this issue with their 2009 Toyota Corolla. I will be taking this to the dealership tomorrow to see if they can fix it along with another recall that I got a letter for. There will legal actions taken if this is not addressed properly.
I purchased the car used 12/3/11 with 12,716 miles. Within 6 months I would hear a grinding/screeching noise when starting the car. This would happen intermittently on cold starts. I had to leave the vehicle with the dealership for over a week for them to finally acknowledge the issue. On 7/13/12 they replaced the timing gear gear assembly and the camshaft gear. To date, the car has only 52,700 miles and the noise appears to have come back. I have checked the battery, alternator and starter and they are fine. I had originally purchased an extended warranty with 6 year/100,000 miles and was told that January 1, 2015 that expired. . Read more...
Was at a stop light and put the car into 1st gear and proceeded to accelerate up to 15mpg. Upon shifting the car into 2nd gear it did not take and the car then made a noise. I had to then place the car back into 1st gear and pull to the side of the road almost getting hit by other traffic and stop on the side of the road for a full inspection. There was nothing visible upon inspection and no current noises at that time so I proceeded to go again first shifting into 1st gear then second and I stopped at 3rd and went straight home. About one and 1/2 miles later it started making another noise similar to the first, but it was continuous and so I parked the car at home and had it towed to the dealership. They then explained to me that this was a very common problem with this motor(being the type that it was) and what had happened is a rod in the engine had been spun. They said it could have been worse and I could have lost control and wrecked the car very easily. They said that due to the nature and price they would not fix the car because it would have to have a full new engine replacement and that would be up to $8k because of it being a rare and high performance price. After further inspection and online research it is very common while downshifting this engine that they slip a gear and spin the rod mostly in the #4 rod and need a new engine for complete repairs. Also it would very likely continue to happen again and again thus putting me and my family in danger on the road. Toyota will not fix the problem they do acknowledge it and that it exists, but will not do the repairs because of the price issue. It is a major safety issue though. The bar also requested that it be reported to NHTSA.

When I start the car the engine noise alternated between high and low. The rpm was fluctuating a lot even though the car was only being heated.

Sometimes my car will not start the first or second time that I turn the key. Engine sounds like it is trying to turn over but does not start. I haven't ever had an incident where the car doesn't start at all - sometimes it just takes a few tries.
Car in for brake work at local dealer recently. (had previously had 90,000 mile service there in Dec 2003, nothing noted. ) at time of brake work, told that top engine noise (ticking/rattle) needed to be checked, $600 just to look inside and see what problem was. Took to dealer where I purchased car for a second opinion. They told me I needed a replacement engine. I'm only at 98,000 miles, and have followed manufacturer's service recommendations/changed oil regularly on schedule. I shouldn't need a new engine, this is caused by a design flaw. Dealer suggested that I hadn't changed the oil on time. Rod or piston that was about to go is thought to be the problem. My brother is still driving a 1985 camry! mom has a 91 camry still in good condition, high mileage. Didn't expect to have a Toyota give out so early. Will be asking for reimbursement from Toyota. Replacement engine totaled $2736. 88 including labor, for a used engine with 36,000 miles. No documentation verifying engine mileage except on bill, so odometer still says 98,000 miles.

The vehicle upon reaching 70+ mph, emits a loud engine noise, and this noise gets louder as I driver faster. I have to turn up the radio or talk louder because of the noise. It sounds like the engine is going to explode. Each time I hear this noise, it upsets me. This noise is not normal and I am tired of driving the vehicle in its current state.
