9 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2010 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/22/2009

I bought a 2010 Toyota Corolla s on oct. 22, 2009. At bitterroot motors in missoula, montana. The day after I bought the car I drove it to ovando, montana, north of missoula, on a tryout road trip. I noticed that it was flighty on the road and seemed to waver without reason (no wind, no semi trucks, wind shear, rain, etc). Being a new car to me, I passed it off as the nature of a lighter and smaller vehicle than what I was accustomed to driving (my other vehicle is a 2004 Ford f150). Since that time, I have continually experienced this with no external explanation (weather, road conditions, etc). This problem seems to happen at speeds of 50 mph and over and it is a consistent issue. I commute regularly between stevensville, mt. , and missoula, mt. , for work (28 miles one way), and I often find that the car will drift left or right when I am at a steady speed. This is in addition to the fact that my vehicle is on the list of recalls for the recent accelerator issue. I need to add here that the second day after buying the car, I was getting fuel and as I turned from the pump to re-enter the car, "pop!!" and the driver side window totally shattered. I immediately called the dealer at bitterroot motors and drove it to their service dept to get it fixed. They replaced the window under warranty, and told me they suspected it was a preexisting stress fracture in the glass that finally gave. I bought this car based on safety ratings, consumer reports ratings, and to get better gas mileage on my necessary trips to and from work. It isn't hard to understand the stress of this situation, not to mention economic hardship. I paid for the car outright ($18,075) and it physically sickens me to think that such serious issues exist. I haven't even owned it 5 months! at this point I am fearful of even driving the car. If the world worked in good ways, Toyota would replace this vehicle completely, and preferably with something other than another Toyota.

10 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2003 Toyota Corolla

The driver side window in my 03 Toyota Corolla collapsed and shattered. This after a recall was done a year ago for the exact same thing (campaign 08v162000). Neither the dealer nor Toyota would pay to repair the window saying they wouldn't provide warranty on the recall since it had been 13 months since the recall was performed. In fact the dealer wanted $800 to repair the window which I had fixed at a glass shop for $130. Fortunately, my son who was driving wasn't hurt.

14 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2007 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 07/04/2008

I bought this 2007 Corolla le in July 2008. Soon we found that when the car reached the speed of 70 mph or over, there was some high-pitched noise coming from the front window. Since this happened a lot, we brought our car to the dealer in early 2008. The dealer replaced the windshield seal. The noise stopped for some time. Then now it comes back again if we drive it around 75 mph or over. I did some google search. I found quite a few other people with the same model/year has the same problem. Also I have been told by my dealer (billpage, falls church, va) that they were aware of this problem since several clients reported it and brought their cars to the dealer.

15 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2004 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 06/25/2008

June 24 I took my 2004 Toyota Corolla -- VIN [xxx] --- in for the recall ssc # 80a 03-04 front door glass bolts safety recall. The window appeared to be in working order, when I picked it up. The window came to a tight seal at the upper part of the window. June 25, the window is off track again leaving a gap at the upper portion when the window rolls up! Toyota said they will not replace the weather stripping. The window because it went off track because of a defect at the factory, made the rubber around the window all loose and maybe affecting the window now. I can see how the stripping has formed in a way that it might push the window away from the inner track -- when window goes up, the stripping is loose and the window moves as going up. I personally think Toyota is getting the easy way out of this. On a side note. . I already had to replace the window cause it shattered on me, thank god I had tint on the window. I took it to a private business, and just my luck, cant find the receipt. So I won't get reimburse. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

I bought Toyota Corolla le 2005 in March 2005 at that time I got 3 year warranty/36,000 miles and the automobile has 36,800 miles and it is already out of warranty. On Sunday, February 4, 2007 at 9:00 am something unusual happened to my car. I woke up around 8 :00 am in the morning and then I decided to buy something from the market for my breakfast and went to the garage and looking at my car I discovered that the right side window glass was broken into thousands of pieces. Fortunately my family and I were not inside the car at the time of incident otherwise we would have be hurt by those glass. Now I am scared of taking my son and wife into the car because the other glass may shatter and hurt me an m y family. Driving this vehicle is putting my family and me in danger of being harmed by the glass because the glass came with a defect from the manufacturer. I have gone to Toyota dealership in person to report this incident and they do not want to take responsibility to replace it with a new glass. I have also contacted the manufacturer of Toyota and they do not even want to take responsibility to replace it. I think most of these models window glass comes with a defect so I would like you to take a test in the lab and ask the manufacturer to replace the windows of my car. I am reporting and making a complaint to protect the consumers and me so I would like you to take any actions against this manufacturer. Please think of my son and wife because this is the only vehicle that I have to transport them to different places. Right now I am scared to drive thinking that any time this will break and hurt me. Thank you very much and I hope your consideration as soon as possible.

24 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2004 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/06/2005

I was driving a Toyota 2004 Corolla on the highway @ 60 mph. All the car windows were open. There were no other cars/trucks near the car. I pushed the button to close the windows. The driver side window went up to approx. 6" from the top of the window and stopped. I pushed the button to turn it down. The window returned down. I again pushed the button to close the window. As the window was raised to apprrox 6" from the top, the glass exploded. I drove directly to the Toyota dealer who said sometimes this happens and was not able to give a reason for the occurrence. The window was replaced. I am afraid to touch the window as when the glass exploded, my hand was cut, some of the glass was in my lap. I was wearing sunglasses which I think provided some protection. When I saw the back of the car there was glass on the floor and back seat. Fortunately, I didn't panic when the glass exploded. I am frightened to think of the serious consequences if I did. Are there any reasons for this type of occurrence? there wasn't any unusual sound when I pushed the window buttons. Is there a problem w the Toyota 2004 Corolla? thank you for your help.

Toyota Corolla 2001 s - the driver's side window was defective. The automatic door has 2 non-metal holders to hold up the glass (glued to the glass). One of them got broken that cause the glass to go out of balance and get stuck when rolling up/down. The motor got over worked and fail shortly after that. 26 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2000 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 08/15/2004

My automobile is a 2000 Toyota Corolla. I was driving on an ordinary road at perhaps 35 - 40 miles per hour when there was a sudden loud bang and my driver's side window exploded into hundreds of pieces scattering glass onto my lap and into the interior of the car. I did not hit a bump and did not see any other vehicles that could have thrown a stone against the window. I drove a short distance back to my home and called the police because I thought that I might have been hit by a bullet. The investigating officer stated that this occurs occasionally as a spontaneous event. I am not sure that is the explanation and wonder if your organization has any similar cases on file ? the window involved was my left side - I couldn't seem to correct the comment that it was the right side.

32 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2003 Toyota Corolla

Driver's side visor when deployed forward collides with rear view mirror. This causes rear view mirror to change position rendering an improper rear view. Mirror can not be adjusted back to proper position due to leverage applied by this visor position. Visor then has to be changed to tilt back toward driver leaving a visor edge to contact the driver's forehead in the event of rapid deceleration, not to mention having offending glare return momentarily while visor is shifted from front tilt to rear tilt position. This in combination with having to readjust the rear view mirror causes unnecessary and dangerous distraction for the driver. This has high potential for an accident during "combat" driving situations, and east coast highways are replete with that! the visor needs to be redesigned to clear the rear view mirror in all positions. Previous Corolla models have a portion of the visor corner removed to do just that. This model year does not. This needs to be addressed as soon as possible! this existing situation is especially dangerous for young drivers with limited road experience! dt.
