3 Tire problem of the 2017 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 08/16/2024

While driving I heard noises, like “flap, flap, flap”. Pulled over to look at the tire and saw that the tire was peeling. Changed to the donut spare tire and went to “firestone” 5 days later to have a new tire put on because the original service shop, “mr king auto services center”, would not take any responsibility for a the tire that was purchased and installed by them 6 months prior. I went to mr tire 2 days after this happened and was basically told there was nothing they could do and said it was the alignment. Firestone said my alignment was fine and gave me paperwork to show what was checked. Cooper p215/50r17 (90w).

Failure Date: 10/01/2023

This complete set of dunlop enasave 01 a/s 195 / 65 r 15 91s tires has failed in a short span of time. At the beginning of October, we noticed a slight warbling while driving at any speed. An inspection by les schwab tires revealed exposed steel belting on the inside of one of the tires, although a quick check found all four tires were failing. A subsequent inspection by our local Toyota dealership found the same problem, with the additional information that the cords had snapped on all four tires. It is relevant to note that these tires only have 44k miles on them, and that the vehicle is garage kept and not exposed to abnormal conditions.

5 Tire problem of the 2019 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 09/13/2023

Front left and right toyo tires (195/65r15 ) having passed MA state inspection at the end of August my husband and I headed out for a 500 mile road trip. I purposely went back to the station that did the inspection and asked if the tires looked okay for this trip. I was assured they would be fine. But 100 miles into the trip the front end was shimmying so badly my husband's leg in the passenger seat was vibrating. He didn't sleep that night and said, "I think we should look into new tires if we're going to continue. " I found a town fair tire store in northhampton, MA and booked an appointment. On arrival one of the specialists came out to inspect the tires I wanted to change out and he stopped in his tracks to shake his head in disbelief. His words were, "you have been driving on secondary rubber and just last evening a woman was towed in with her Prius, same year, same mileage but she had blown a tire because of the poor tread. " that was all I had to hear. It would be different if it was just me but here were two of us with 34,000 miles on our Prius' and horribly worn out tires. What's the likelihood of that? I am sick thinking that Toyota stuck such cheap tires on a car which could have threatened our lives. Greed is what drives these decisions and it has to stop!.

7 Tire problem of the 2010 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 12/11/2022

Tires losing air and noticed the rubber breaking down and separating from the sidewall on all four tires. Took into evans dealership and they informed us the tires were a safety issue and tried to sell new tires. They told us the tires were made in 93 but we bought in 2016, so we looked up and dot number on tire (only had u093). The service tech did not understand the dot numbers since it was missing the last four numbers. They do have a date on the paperwork u09304160416 the tires only have approximately 25, 000 miles and car is garage kept. Rubber should not be breaking down. What can we do? we had no idea about the date until they pointed it out. Legally these tires are a safety issue. Tires p 195/60r15.

Two months later I experienced the same thing with another tire one the same vehicle . All tires were purchased from the same company at first thought I suspected just a bad tire but this happening twice to me shows that it must be a greater defect problem the tires have approximately 27000 on them . They are supposed to be 60000 tires these are well cared for tires and have not been subjected to abuse or any repairs. Id number on the first tire that failed is 04ch514a124.

12 Tire problem of the 2007 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 08/14/2015

My bridgestone ecopia ep 422 tires wore out after only 32,000 miles even though they are advertised as warrantied for 65,000 miles. The bridgestone dealer gave me a reference # 112-95-47 and sent me to a dealer. The dealer measured the tires at 4-4-0 and stated that the warranty would not cover because the inside edges of all four tires were bald. He stated that, "it looks like an alignment problem to me. " during the life of the tires I returned to the Toyota dealer for 5,000 mile service intervals. Each time they checked the alignment and inflation. It was always "within spec" for my 2007 Toyota Prius. I told this to the dealer and the bridgestone representative. They stated that they are sorry but they cannot honor the warranty. What good is a 65,000 mile warranty for tires that wear out in 32,000 miles if the fact that they wore out voids the warranty? I purchased these tires because they got high ratings for low rolling resistance and the bridgestone brochure recommended them for my 07 Prius. While the gas savings were good, the loss of half the life of the tire more than outweighs the gas savings. I believe that bridgestone has had a wear problem with these tires because after only 3 years they have withdrawn the tires and replaced them with the new ecopia 422 plus. It has a 70,000 mile warranty. But the new tire has a tread compound rated at 680 while the old tire has a tread compound rated at 400. Wouldn't it be reasonable to think that the much harder 680 rating would produce much more than only 5,000 mile more warranty? I think that they withdrew the softer tire because it wore out too quickly and changed to the harder tread compound to get it close to the original warranty. But, they are not supporting the old tire warranty. I presented this logic to the bridgestone representatives on the phone and in person. They stated that they have not had complaints. I doubt this. That is why I am sending this complaint. This is false advertising.

16 Tire problem of the 2011 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 01/03/2014

I purchased a set of 4 michelin defender xt tires for my 2011 Prius ii from costco on 11/29/2013. The tires are marketed by michelin as llr (low rolling resistance) tires. However upon installing them and operating the vehicle for nearly 1000 miles, I found the mpg to be nearly 10 mpg. Less than the oem tires that these replaced. The rolling resistance of these tires are high. Vehicle almost feels like being driven over sand. As soon as I take my foot off the accelerator, the vehicle decelerates rapidly, much faster than the oem tires. I checked the tire pressure, alignment, and wheel bearings, all are within specs. It appears to me that the hysteresis losses in this tire material are fairly high. This tire should not be sold as a low rolling resistance tire. It is being falsely advertised as having this capability to increase sales. The mpg difference was measured by calculating the true miles from my gps unit and dividing the result by the gallons to full at the same pump. This was done three times to accurately access the true mpg difference. No other factors on the vehicle has been changed. Only change has been replacement of the tires.

19 Tire problem of the 2006 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 04/06/2012

I bought 4 new pirelli cinturato p5 tires for my 2006 Toyota Prius in June of 2009 from discount tire. I was told that these tires would last for 85,000 miles before having to replace them. Since then I regularly rotated and balanced them. When I went to get my tires rotated and balanced again 6/2009, I was told that two of the tires are already worn out and I would be better off to get two new tires to keep me safe while driving. I informed the sales personnel that these tires are just 3 years old and with 40,400 miles since purchased. He mentioned to me that tires many a times do not give the mileage they are rated for. In my case, I got less than one-half the rated mileage. With my driving pattern (13,000 miles/year), I would have expected these tires to last for about six years as I take good care (rotating, balancing, and alignment) of them.

Took to the dealer and he laughed at me and said they would love to charge me to replace all my lug nuts and those where the right tires for the vehicle and he said I was lucky to get 35,000 miles out of them because everyone else only got 25,000 miles with the tires he then tried to sell me a new set of tires. Last month, the consumer received a letter from Toyota regarding information about a problem with the hid headlights.
