8 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2004 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/26/2017

We had the takata airbag recall service performed on our Tundra on 12/19/14. Then, just a coupe weeks ago in June 2017, the airbag light came on when my husband was driving to work on the highway, and the light has not gone off since. We took it to a local auto shop to diagnose this past weekend, and they said it was an issue relating to the airbag recall service--they said they've seen this numerous times now, all in vehicles that had the airbag recall service done. Some of the common red flags they made us aware of were: horn is not working, as well as the cruise control. We took it to palm beach Toyota in west palm beach, florida, this morning, and they diagnosed it as a spiral cable assembly that needs to be replaced--at a cost to us of $700 plus tax. That is something that should be covered under the recall, since it appears to be such a common occurance, it's obvious that this stems from the airbag recall service.

16 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2012 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 12/22/2014

The passenger side airbag came on when my son and I went on a trip to our cabin. We stopped to get gas, my son got out of the truck and the light came on. I turned the ignition off got gas, and when I started the truck again the airbag light remained on. I again turned the truck off and started it again. My son got out and then got back into the truck. I took the concern to the dealer and they reset the airbag light. After the airbag turned off on us at almost the exact same place on our trips to the cabin 5 more times over a year with no fix to the problem I asked the dealer to come up with a plan to address the ongoing safety problem. My rep. At the dealership said the Toyota corporate rep. Will stop in to the dealership in a month or so and they will call me to meet with him. After three months with no contact I called the dealership, when no one called me back I went to the dealership. My rep. Was out for the summer and another rep. Told me the Toyota corporate rep quit and they don't know when they will have another rep assigned to them. I then called Toyota complaint line worked with a rep. Who looked into the on going problem. After two weeks of trying to get a plan from her she told me that they were not responsible because the passenger was too heavy for the airbag and the airbag sensor. She said the federal government sets the standards and there is noting they can do to adjust them. I asked if she could send me the airbag sensor weight sinsitivity settings she did not respond to the request. I then asked her to put Toyota's position in writing, and the rep. Told me that "your maintenance receipt is your communication". That is the only thing they will give me. I have a dangerous situation with this airbag, and Toyota will not take responsibility for the defect. I need help before someone gets killed here.

17 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 12/10/2014

I took my Tundra into the dealership where I bought it, for the power window motor recall. The airbag light had been coming on for about a year. They informed me that that means the airbag is inoperable. I asked them to check and tell me what the issue was. They ran a check,(code b1801) and said to rule out some other problem they would first have to change out the spiral cable assembly, at my cost. Apparently that fixed the issue. It seems odd to me that with 8 million spiral cable assembly's under recall, that that would be the issue here, and it is not covered by the recall. The total cost was $507. 13, to me. Do I have any recourse? Toyota customer service gave me this website address to report the issue, since they are unwilling to take any responsibility here. They said "they can't predict what will go wrong with a vehicle".

18 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2008 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 10/13/2014

Airbag light goes on and off, took it to the Toyota dealer as the owner manual indicates. Diagnose code b1801 open spiral cable part# 155740. When the light is on the air system is disabled and will not deploy if in an accident. When researching if this is common or not, there are a lot of Tundra owners with the same problem. This spiral cable is either a defective part Toyota used or a design flaw therefore should be recalled and fixed. Toyota dealer wants over 750 dollars to replace the spiral cable. Since it goes on and off, Toyota owners will have to be lucky if they get into an accident and hope the light is off at the time so the airbags will work.
