1 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2019

The car randomly stalls!!! this has happened several times and the dealer says nothing is wrong because there are no codes. This is so dangerous and I do not feel safe driving it. Twice the car stalled when sitting at a stop light and once when I was driving on the city street. It will restart after I let it sit. It also stutters/jumps and DE excellerates.

2 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2019

The contact owns a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to platinum Volkswagen - sales (340 w old country rd, hicksville, NY 11801) where the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

3 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2017

Vehicle stalls intermittently since purchase, commonly when exiting a freeway to a stop or during rush hour(stop/go)traffic. Before stalling, vehicle will jerk, rough idle, and delay acceleration. Stalling may occur at a stop after high speed, however stalling has also occurred during driving after a high speed to low speed departure. When vehicle stalls during driving, both the wheel and brakes lock up commonly. It takes putting it in neutral while rolling and attempting to start several times before ignition kicks in. This has been dangerous as the only braking would be a gradual emergency brake pull and there is no additional steering, thankfully I have had straightaways the times it has happened, however I have been forced to go through red lights with my hazards on, laying on the horn. Vw has attempted repair 5 times for same issue with no resolve. Lights and codes come and go intermittently after stalling. One or both of the previous issues mentioned occurs on a daily basis as of the moment. The ftc, bbb, and attorney general for the state of michigan have all been made aware of the situation and the attorney general's office recommended I report it to you.

4 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2017

When driving the low oil pressure light comes on and goes off 4 or 5 times then is perfectly fine the rest of the trip. It happens in cold and hot weather. When the low oil pressure light comes on, it's always when I let off the accelerator to come to a stop. Once I start moving again, the light goes off. The correct oil/filter have been installed, vw dealership said it happens all the time and the oil pressure sensor was bad. I changed the sensor and it still does the same thing. While researching it on google, it appears a lot of people have this same issue, but no one has a solution. Vw dealership has lied to me before so I don't trust them working on my car.

5 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

Tl the contact owns a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning while stopped at a stop sign. The contact moved the vehicle onto the road shoulder and restarted the vehicle. The failure recurred several times. The contact had previously taken the vehicle to steve white Volkswagen (100 duvall drive greenville, south carolina, 29607, (864) 288-8300) to be diagnosed. The failure codes retrieved indicated failures with the camshaft positioning sensor and camshaft adjuster. The camshaft adjuster and camshaft sensor were replaced however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the previous parts that were replaced, needed to be replaced a second time. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

6 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2016

I left work to pick up my children 3 times in a short trip the car cut off, it seems as if you don't give gas the car will stall and quit. I have started trying to hold the brake and give gas to prevent from it cutting off at stop lights, the car will also cut off in motion if not given gas. I can't file a complaint everyday but not one day goes by that my car don't cut off.

7 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2015

While driving straight on a city highway, the car stalled, and would not restart. This happened in moderate traffic, but we were able to coast out of the road and into a parking lot. The dealer where we bought the car analyzed the fuel system, and ruled that out. He found a bad fuse related to the fuel pump, and claims at this time that it is probably an electrical issue. At this time, the exact cause remains unknown. This is the third time that we've had the same problem, though the previous two times the dealers claimed that it was a fuel system issue.

8 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2015

The car loses power, stalls then it dies. At times it speeds up, and stalls dies without warning. Loses all power, found recall in reference to this issue. VIN# matches series, matches date, and place where the car was made, except for the last few digits. Recall 11v19600, and vw will not replace harness to electrcial fuse and circuit breaker. I need to help to get this resolved. I have been battling the dealer and vw of America since 03/20/2015 until today 06/26/2015.

9 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2015

Traveling along at highway speed. Car sputtered and died. I was able to pull over and be towed to a repair shop. Apparently there is a well-known design flaw in the intercooler intake pipe on all Volkswagen tdi (diesel) engines since 2009 that causes moisture to develop in the intercooler intake pipe during cold weather. If enough moisture collects in this pipe, it will get channeled to the engine and be fed into the cylinders, causing the car to sputter and stall exactly as mine did - or to simply not start on cold days. Other side effects of this, are severe engine damage. Vw is well aware of this issue, and has issued a TSB about it. "TSB# 21 11 06 / 2025464 frozen air charge cooler" and there is a repair part they have already designed - # cold weather ic kit 1k0-198-803-b. . . However, the part is only made available upon request and at owner expense if out of warranty. This is not a warranty issue; this is huge safety hazard and a design flaw that vw needs to correct for all owners. This situation also, apparently does not throw any codes to the vehicle computer, as there are no sensors of any type in this intercooler pipe. The only way to determine that this is the cause, it to put the vehicle up, and remove one end of this hose and see if water or 'sludge' drains out of it, and this pipe would probably be destroyed in any front-end collision, as it's far forward in the engine compartment. There is a ton of information about this all over the internet. Here is a link to just one of the articles I found after this happened to me. . Read more...

10 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2015

The contact owns a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. While driving at 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact merged to the right side of the road and restarted the vehicle. The failure recurred three times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the number two and three fuel injectors were faulty and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 105,000.

11 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2015

I had driven the car earlier that day (about 40 miles) with no problems. I got home at about 7:30pm and parked the car outside our house. At about 2am, I heard a beeping car horn. I looked outside and saw flames coming out of the front drivers side of our beautiful 2011 Jetta sportwagen. I dialed 911, the car continued to burn until the fire dept arrived and put it out. The car is a total loss. I'm only happy it wasn't parked inside a garage where the fire would have destroyed our house as well. No work had been done on the car recently and no aftermarket options were installed. I have only one question - what could cause a completely cold car (not driven in over 6 hours) to suddenly burst into flame?? thank you.

12 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2014

My car has had 3 stalls within 3 months. I took it to the dealer they replaced the throttle assembly. Since then I was pulling out of a parking spot and put the car in drive and the car stalled. I took it to the dealer and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with the vehicle.

13 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2012

The contact owns a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated the exhaust tip was extended beyond the original length of the factory-installed exhaust pipes. As a result, the exhaust pipes burned a child's legs on three different occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on one occasion but the dealer did not repair the problem. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 11e036000 (engine and engine cooling: exhaust system) and called the dealer. The dealer repaired the exhaust pipe by capping the tips of the pipes per the recall. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 38,000.

14 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2011

This car stalls out as it slows down. It does not change to a lower gear in time when decelerating and stalls out. It will not stall out every time I slow down. I never know when it will stall. It's very random and I have stalled out in the middle of intersections and any situation slowing down. I brought this car back to the deal twice and they could not find anything wrong with it. I pleaded with them that the car is dangerous but they sent me packing. I am writing this because I do not want them to resell this car to someone, the car stalls out and they get injured. For four year, I have had to drive this car using either the manual shift, or put it into neutral when when slowing down. I am returning the car today. Please don't let them resell this car. Also, sometimes the car will not shift into 6th gear. The driver side window will not stay up. I will roll it up and it will automatically room down like something is obstructing it.

15 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2011

Volkswagen Jetta sedan dsg tdi 2011. Vehicle as made has a two second hold for keeping the car from rolling backwards on inclines. However the car owners manual requires a slow acceleration which allows the car to roll backwards risking hitting the car or pedestrian behind you especially in driveways with inclines endangering small children because of visibility. The only way to overcome this safety defect is to use the emergency brake to hold vehicle until rpms increase enough to engage the transmission. The front and rear windshields have a blur, the front windshield extends from the bottom to approximately six inches up the glass and the rear glass has distortion throughout. This causes eye strain, watering, and headache when subjected to for an hour or more of travel and is especially bad in bright sunlight causing an unsafe driving condition. Dealer admitted distortion but refused to repair along with manufacturer. The car stalls when attempting to move forward from a stop resulting in an extremely unsafe vehicle when trying to cross lanes of traffic. The car will not reach its maximum rpm as indicated it should do by owners manual for passing or merging into traffic resulting in unsafe vehicle operation in multiple instances. The dealer actually made this worse then would not correct. The vehicle also does not have parking lights as required by some state statues and should have never been certified for sale in the USA.

16 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2011

The contact owns a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the vehicle would lose power and fail to accelerate before stalling sporadically and without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis where the dealer advised that they could find nothing wrong with the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 18,800.

17 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2011

I am having what I believe to be a serious, but intermittent, safety problem with my 2011 Jetta sportwagon tdi. There is also what may be a related issue with the automatic transmission shifting at low speed. Occasionally when I attempt to accelerate away from a stop sign/traffic light, the engine does not respond to throttle movement. When I take my foot off the brake and press on the gas pedal the car moves ahead under what I believe is idle power but as I try to accelerate, it is like the gas pedal is not connected to the engine. The engine is running but won't rev and move the car. I usually end up about a third of the way into the intersection with a car that is seemingly stalled (engine still running however). The car behind me then has to brake and if I happened to be trying to cut into moving traffic, I am now a target for the cross traffic. I reported this to selling dealer service department early in my ownership experience of this car and was told don't worry about it, that is normal, it's a transmission thing. Perhaps there is a link to the transmission and as I mentioned earlier, this is a problem area as well. When driving slowly, around 20-25 miles per hour, the transmission can't seem to decide what gear it should be in. It keeps bouncing back and forth between gears causing a very uncomfortable surging. The surging part I can work around by shifting to sport mode. This mode might also help the acceleration problem but I don't have good experience yet to confirm.

18 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2011

The contact owns a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled while making a turn with the clutch engaged. The vehicle stalled more than five times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who could not duplicate the failure after performing a diagnostic test because there were no error codes. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 2,800.

19 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2011

My vw has had problems since a week after I bought it. While going 1500 rpm's around 15-25 mph my car chugs and stalls. I have brought it to vw 4 times, and a personal mechanic. Each time vw said there was a rither a computer issue and that they have fixed it or said there was no issue. They completely reset my cars computer back to factory settings due to them saying that my car learned my driving style. This didn't help. Years later I am still having this problem. I have almost gotten in a few car accidents because of the stalling/chugging problem. I have an infant and can't have my family car causing such problems.

20 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2010

Shortly after purchasing the vehicle new we experienced issues with the vehicle stuttering when driving and at times shutting off completely as if it stalled (the vehicle is an automatic with the dsg transmission). We took the vehicle to the vw dealership under warranty but the tech could not replicate the problem and sent us on our way and told us to comeback if it kept occurring. The problem persisted and we took the vehicle to the service department again and they said the problem could not be found and once again sent us away and told us to come back if the problem kept occurring. The vehicle is now stuttering and stalling much more often and the warranty has run out. I called the vw hq they told me to take the vehicle in and have the tech look at it which has cost me $112 in which they once again found nothing and recommended I let the car warm up prior to driving. It is currently summer and the low temperatures are around 70 and the highs are 85+. In addition this is a modern vehicle and had I know I was going to need to let it warm up I would not have purchased it. This isn’t the 50’s. My wife and I now feel the vehicle is unsafe to drive due to the fact it stalls out at unpredictable times causing a loss of power steering, power brakes. If vw does not fix this issue I will be trading it in due to their disregard for safety of my family.
